I can't see what purpose a phd in manga would even serve
MANGA STUDIES ARE YOU JOKING :fuckoff:
nice way to alienate people too "oh you're a doctor? what's your degree in?" "manga" "uhhh"
Umm whats wrong with art, poetry, and philosophy?
i dont really see any practical purpose for them [editline]8th June 2011[/editline]
Sorry but a literature degree isn't either. There's not much difference between manga and books. The difference is that mangas have more images. That's about it.
a manga isn't a "book" with pictures in it it's essentially the japanese equivalent of a comic book, dont even TRY to compare the two
i dont really see any practical purpose for them
Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
so please enlighten me as to what practical purpose being an expert in japanese comic books serves
"I have spent 5 years studying the art of staying a virgin"
good for them i guess
I cant click on page 2 [editline]9th June 2011[/editline] Oh here it is
I see nothing wrong with this. We have literature studies, so why not manga studies? Quite a lot of mangas are actually damn good with deep stories and good art. But then again, they get overshadowed by kawaii fanservice titty bounche mangas.
Anime's not my thing, but this is pretty much what I was thinking, too. Technically, they're a form of literature or art (or both). If you can get degrees in study of those, then why not this? I don't think a degree in "Manga Arts" will get you anywhere outside anime conventions, and even inside anime conventions you'll be lucky for anything more glorious than a booth between the girl-imprinted body pillows and the "lolicon" posters, but there's no real reason not to offer it as a possibility.

I suppose a class on that might be useful if you were an anthropologist and you were writing a report on Japanese culture, like a compare and contrast of the old and new or something.
Gordon Freeman is a doctor
and he cures the Combine with bullets and rockets

Seriously saying "it's not a real field" just because you don't approve is very stupid. I don't see how art can't be a real degree. Arts require a lot of knowledge and skill sharpening to get good at. Oh NO, someone studies something they enjoy? This is fucked up.

Even Rukia, who doesnt really have tits. :colbert:

[editline]8th June 2011[/editline] And besides, some manga can be very skillfully drawn and written. For example:
Gordon Freeman is a doctor
He cures the world of a parasite known as the Combine. WHAT NOW?
Umm whats wrong with art, poetry, and philosophy?
Wait, why did he act like history just barely made it?
Wait, why did he act like history just barely made it?
Because he's an idiot who thinks the only real fields are those involving maths or science, and doesn't realize that intelligence can be expressed in other ways.
Another useless qualification.
A doctorate in any kind of literature seems silly to me, the only thing you can do with it is teach in that subject.
I want a Ph. D in videogames
:wtc:
