The 1st amendment was created to prevent government censorship, around the time the constitution was written people were coming up with some pretty radical new ideas about government and society and many existing governments tried to prevent such ideas from being printed or publicized for fear they'd inspire something (which they of course did). Free speech was included in the amendment to prevent that from happening.

This guy (Ben Shapiro) seems like a fucking badass. First time I've heard of him, but he's one of the best debaters I've ever seen. Not many are able to keep their stance in front of such a strongly opinionated person as Morgan. I'm glad we have some people rationally pointing at the real problem; the lack of good mental health care, research, and background checks. Edit: Gotta love the CNN titles on the bottom. The way America is headed right now with taking away rights, tyranny is plausible in the next fifty to hundred years. This also highlights the major problems with America being split into the "left and right". You pick one side and you take everything that comes with its platform, otherwise you're shunned/viewed as a socialist/etc. And frankly, both sides seem quiet intent on taking away rights.

He is simply afraid of semi-automatic rifles because they look scary, not because of what they actually do or how they are used. If he truly wanted to stop gun violence then why does he not want a pistol ban? Banning rifles would result in a ~3% decrease in firearm homicides. It would do almost nothing to stop violence, and that's assuming that the ban would actually work to stop people from acquiring rifles (it wouldn't).

Peirs Morgan does this stupid thing where he says "What weapon did the Aurora shooter use? What weapon did the blah blah etc." like he points to the fact that assault rifles are the only reason so many people are dying. How about the Virginia Tech shooting? 32 people died and 17 others were wounded. He used 2 pistols IIRC. The "left" acting like banning semi-automatic rifles would do anything is nonsense. The problem obviously isn't guns themselves, but the repressed problem of mental health that is constantly ignored, over and over and over again. People who shoot up schools are not mentally healthy. Its common sense that these issues need to be addressed. I don't know the solution, but putting the blame on a small minority of guns is nonsensical.
