Here we go: US politicans call for Ed Snowden to be extradited

Making himself public is definitely a safer route than not if it can be easily traced back to him anyway.
Even the concept of Manning's leaks directly harming someone was quite a stretch; there's no way in hell that revealing a massive unconstitutional program that spies on Americans is actually going to hurt anything but the administration's shot-to-shit credibility.
Just like with Manning, he made them look bad and now they'll go after him with everything they've got.
Honestly, after the past month's revelations about the authoritarian bullshit the Obama administration is doing, I cannot wait to have him out of office in 2016. Maybe then, finally, we'll get someone in office that will shut down the global perpetual war and start RESTORING civil liberties for a change.
Don't blame Obama, blame congress.
He wasn't a idiot, he fled for Hong Kong on May 20th. They were going to find him out because of either not showing up for work or some other dirty spy method. He should have fled to Russia, he would not have been touched and he likely would have gained citizenship in exchange for state secrets. He even mentioned that in the video, I don't know why he chose a country with a extradition treaty with the US.
He was an idiot for admitting to the leak. When you do something like he did, the last thing you need to be doing is telling the world you did it. From now on, he's basically going to be living a fugitives life, with the US government constantly on his ass.
He needs to find Tracer Tong.

Don't blame congress, blame those who elected them.

There's really not much choise in who you elect, especially not in the American system. Two parties, who both cherry-pick the candidates they want to run.

They were going to find him anyways.

I don't see how he wouldn't have been a fugitive either way. It's better for his goals if the world knows who did it and why.
Hong Kong is an independent country, China just handles its defense basically.
It's a special administrative area, like Macao
They'll be assimilated in a year or two

huh. dangerous for who exactly?

electronic old men
Well they sure didn't fuck around.
Are some of you guys seriously trying to say that America would just assassinate him? America is not Russia or China or even in the 1950's anymore. If America was really just killing its own citizens and anyone who looks at it funny then Assange would have been long dead. America doesn't generally go around pulling Litvinenkos all over the place.

They're not going to assassinate him, just throw him in a prison somewhere and mildly torture him, then leave him to sit for the rest of his life while ignoring criticism about his treatment.
(I use the term mildly because we aren't burning off his skin or breaking his bones or any sick shit like that, but it's still wrong)

I really wish I was in america right now so I could join protests.

On the contrary, I think this was his best option. The leak would probably be traced back to him anyway, so stepping up into media is the best way to keep public focus on the next move the government will take. If he just was arrested without this public appearance, media would just paint him as a cyber terrorist and no one would bat an eyelash. The actors are on the stage and now the audience wait.
I really wish I was in america right now so I could join protests.
I don't think there are any protests. If there were and the government eventually caved in and said they'd repeal prism they probably wouldn't and keep it doing when everyone's guard is down.
Odd isn't it, the media has never been more prolific yet the state has never been more resistant to the public outcry for openess.

Unlikely considering hundreds of thousands of Hong Kong residents still come out every single year to mark the Tiananmen Square massacre
This was just a week ago:

I don't understand why China/Hong Kong wouldn't agree to extradite him. China most likely does the exact same thing to its cell phones and internet, so they would probably want to get the guy who did the leak if the roles were reversed.
Also it makes no diplomatic sense, because we're already walking on eggshells with them, so no one wants to piss anyone off.

If America wants this guy, they're gonna get him.

Even if America gets the guy, the damage is already done and they're just gonna prove his point. He blew a hole right into the shady shit the US gov is doing, any attempts to prosecute just prove the government's wrongdoing.
It's interesting how Serbia is the least spied country, and the only country colored black :v:
You know watching this video really gives incredible insight on how America and other countries that it's buddy buddy with, work. If you dare oppose these "great" and powerful countries, they'll find you, and they'll ruin your life, even if the work that you did for them was useful towards whatever agendas they may have.
The amount of cooperation between America and its allies of which we know nothing about or how far their reach stretches, is frightening to say the least, this guy is right on the money when he says "I don't want to live in a society that does these sort of things" because neither do I nor do a lot of other people, we don't need to live like this.
We live in a confusing, interesting, and somewhat scary time

Actually it's more like if you deliberately violate the laws you swore a binding oath to uphold, you're guilty of espionage and get punished accordingly, regardless of your reasons.
There is protection for whistleblowers if they go through the right channels. Publicly releasing classified information and going to the media is not the right channel.
Sick of the fucking corrupt system we live in today, but noone seems to do anything about it nor does anyone seem to care anymore it's like we're all buried with our head in the sand and letting them ram us right up the fucking ass.

If people are disappointed in Obama, they'll vote Republican.
Guess where that'll end...
