Conclusion: Pirates don't want anyone to make money.
Except themselves, by asking for 'donations for the cause'. And this is why I hate associating myself with Piracy. [editline]17th August 2012[/editline]
We're fed up with ads. We see them literally everywhere we look. We're tired of having bullshit we don't want forced down our throats from every conceivable direction. There's only so much patience someone has for being told to buy this, sue that, get a scrip for this new pill, etc etc, before we start taking steps against the deluge. I put up with ads on buses, billboards, TV to an extent(<3 my TiVO), radio, etc. Anyone who says I have to put up with them on the internet as well is fucking insane. TPB doesn't have ads for me. No site does. And that's a damn good thing, because most websites have so many fucking ads spammed everywhere that A: FIrefox leaks ram and crashes every five minutes, B: It takes twice as long for a page to load, C: Every single ad is a possible way to slip malware onto my machine, D: They're bloody annoying, and E: I can't see what I went to the page for because of all the fucking ads in the way. So fuck ads.
Your point is useless because then no website could run without donations and that means a large chunk of the internet would go down. Websites need money to run, that's just part of the process.
Sorry for preferring the best version even if it isn't a big deal.
But you prefer 2.2.1, meaning you don't prefer the best version (which is 3.2).
I find adverts of any kind highly irritating so I always block them, I don't want that shit on my screen and wasting my bandwidth, I find it particularly amusing how some websites get you to try unblock them with a sad story about needing money, well too bad maybe they should consider alternative methods like a donate button. As for µTorrent it's been going consistently downhill since the greedy fucks decided they wanted more money resulting in the bloated hunk of shit it now is, I just want a small client to download a torrent, no apps, no fancy ass UI and certainly no social bullshit just a simple fucking torrent client that it was originally intended to be.
But you prefer 2.2.1, meaning you don't prefer the best version (which is 3.2).
Best in your opinion, personally I'd rather have my eyes slowly pulled out as hot pokers get shoved deep into my colon.
My god, you're so condescending. Those awful, awful website operators.

It's not like you paid for it. These guys are offering a free program and I think they have every right to place adverts in it.
yeah use old software forever, nothing can possibly go wrong over the years!
afaik there are no outstanding security issues with 2.2.1, so what exactly is your point? [editline]1[/editline] 2.2.1 is considered the best version and most private trackers recommend it
I find adverts of any kind highly irritating so I always block them, I don't want that shit on my screen and wasting my bandwidth, I find it particularly amusing how some websites get you to try unblock them with a sad story about needing money, well too bad maybe they should consider alternative methods like a donate button.
yeah they should rely on generous people such as yourself (snicker) Goddamn you're clueless
Already have, and sure they can place adverts in it but they are going to lose many users, it's a stupid move solely motivated by making more money, and now that they've partially backed down makes them look even more stupid they should have realised it would annoy many people, seriously who do these guys hire to work for them.

Seriously, these guys have spent a lot of money and many hours making a free program. They deserve some fucking money for it.
too late, I already switch to tixati
yeah they should rely on generous people such as yourself (snicker) Goddamn you're clueless
You know, it really doesn't make a difference whether or not he uses adblock? Because, you know, you have to actually click on them. Something someone with the knowledge to get an adblock plugin wouldn't do
They already have a pro version, that should be enough for them. And yes I make use of adverts, why should I not take advantage of the people who enjoy clicking ads.
it honestly works better than utorrent anyway so I won't be switching back ever
They already have a pro version, that should be enough for them. And yes I make use of adverts, why should I not take advantage of the people who enjoy clicking ads.
And exactly the same can be said about the people who made uTorrent. I'm leaving this here.
Well I'm not using it any more so they can do what they like, I hope they enjoy losing a fair sized portion of their user base. That or many will be using older (better) versions.
it honestly works better than utorrent anyway so I won't be switching back ever
I would use Tixati for it's features if not for the kind of messed up GUI
afaik there are no outstanding security issues with 2.2.1, so what exactly is your point? [editline]1[/editline] 2.2.1 is considered the best version and most private trackers recommend it
I don't get this. What's so much better with 2.2.1 than 3.2?
I don't get this. What's so much better with 2.2.1 than 3.2?
Simpler UI, No useless junk like apps, smaller size. Other than that not a lot, but really 3.2 does not add a great deal extra either.
Size isn't really an issue given how tiny it already is, but I do like those other points.
Dear diary: today I actually used uTorrent to download a linux distro (Linux Mint XFCE 32-bit, for use in a VM). At first, I chose a download mirror close to me (U Waterloo), but it was only downloading at 50 kB/s. The torrent is downloading ten times faster, at 500 kB/s. So much better than having to hunt down a mirror that's actually fast (and it's more reliable too; if the download corrupts or something, the chunks will be redownloaded.) EDIT: rampageturke 2, care to elaborate on why I'm "dumb"?
... yeah, we get it, you can use torrents for legitimate purposes, which make up 1% of actual use

Cause I'd put my money it would a for every 1 legit there is 50 illegit torrents. I'm a pirate who knows what I'm doing is illegal and I'm not going to fog up the whole debate by pulling out moral reasoning against ethical reasoning.
Why 2.2.1 exactly and not 3.2?
unless you truly care about file-sharing, don't bother. and by that I mean if you only use public trackers then you should be fine.
I feel like the one person on the internet who feels morally wrong about using AdBlock Plus, and doesn't use it.
I enabled the ABP option to allow "non-intrusive" ads through. Basically, it blocks the popups, the ads that cover the page when you roll over them, the ads that start fullscreen, all the shit, but it lets the text ads (and some smaller still image ads) through.
As far as I'm aware, displaying ads and not clicking on them has exactly the same result as blocking them : the site owner makes no money.
Actually the site owner makes money by just displaying them. It's just that clicking them gives more revenue
I already moved to deluge. i like how each tracker is its own category making sorting easier.
Your point is useless because then no website could run without donations and that means a large chunk of the internet would go down. Websites need money to run, that's just part of the process.
There's so many more people who don't use ABP that those of us who do are in no danger of taking down any websites due to a lack of revenue.
yeah use old software forever, nothing can possibly go wrong over the years!
Not updating is what keeps my machine running. So much shit would break if I updated everything. My dad's laptop also has to run outdated software, if we install the current flash plugin youtube doesn't work. But if we use one from ~2008? Youtube works fine.
I just avoid ad fucker websites. Still fair.
I use Youtube far too much to just 'avoid' it, yet it's entirely unuseable without an ad blocker running...and don't give me any sad-sap bullshit about Youtube going under, Google makes far too much money to be brought down by adblocker use on Youtube. YT's been hemorrhaging money for years anyway.
I feel like the one person on the internet who feels morally wrong about using AdBlock Plus, and doesn't use it.
You probably are. The way I see it, the security of my machine takes precedence over everything else, and if blocking the ads completely negates one vector for malware to get planted then the ads get blocked. The health of my machine is more important.
Simpler UI, No useless junk like apps, smaller size. [editline]19th August 2012[/editline]
I already moved to deluge. i like how each tracker is its own category making sorting easier.
You can tag em yourself. see my screenshots above.

Yeah I find nothing wrong with the latest uTorrent, I can't stand using outdated software though. Most current gen software (*cough* Windows) feels so underdeveloped and in dire need of mass redesigning and changes
