I do think that Toy Story 3 ended on a high note with little room for a sequel. However, I do think that it will be good because Pixar won't screw up something something like this. Toy Story 3 was a masterpiece and arguably the best of the trilogy (it did have a different tone to say the least.) While I do hope this will be the last movie, I'm hopefully it will top the rest.

Story wise, I don't think it will be a prequel. A yahoo article said it would pick up immediately after the last film.

i remember everyone just ripping into this movie that had like zero plot details and just lamenting about how it was going to ruin a classic franchise

Nah man, they sounded pretty enthusiastic, and honest really, agreeing with you saying that they also feel Toy Story 3 ended perfectly.

However, Bo Peep was absent in Toy Story 3, and now they're convinced and excited over re-introducing her in Toy Story 4. You can't stop them, besides they know what they are doing. And they're still doing it out of passion, I'm pretty sure of that.

Also, oddly related, the Finnish dubbing of Toy Story 1 is literally one of the best dubbs ever. Better than the Original even.
