What ever happened to listening to music because to you, it's genuinely good?
Nobody remembers that good ol' Jon was also the one to do Portal's credits music :( [sp]OK EXCEPT THE ONE GUY THAT POSTED THE VIDEO UP THERE[/sp]
I have honestly never heard of Eric Johnson. But compared to other musicians, that's tiny. Daft punk has 119,275,687 scrobbles. Radiohead has 362,316,602.
yeah but daft punk and radiohead are also overrated you'll probably recognise this song it was in rock band or guitar hero or one of those sort of games, don't remember which

I think we need to establish what "overrated" means. Is it just as simple as popularity * music quality, or is there a "being mainstream" component to it.

Coldplay probably shouldn't be more popular than The Oak Ridge Boys, but they are. if your fanbase is disproportionate to the quality of your music, you're either overrated or underrated.

And what's more is that, because everyone has a slightly different preference, an artist who is underrated to one person could easily be overrated to someone else.
Needed more autotune.
i think JoCo is pretty rated not overrated or underrated, just rated. he's got a fairly sizeable fanbase and he's a very talented musician but it's not like he's won grammys or made millions of millions of dollars from it.
Back when Left 4 Dead was like, the best thing ever. Shame Valve stopped caring about it.
But L4D2 just got workshop support very recently and continues to get regular bugfixes. Just because there's no new major content lately doesn't mean Valve stopped caring.

I'd imagine they only did it because people were begging for it. There's so much potential that is to be found in Left 4 Dead but Valve's priorities are clearly on other things. I just think L4D could use some love.

I just think L4D could use some love.
Honestly that's how Valve handles just about all their projects. They take a long time. Really, though, what new content needs to be implemented into the game itself from the community? Maps? You can already play custom maps online. I think the balance between the current in-game weapons and special infected is just about right and adding more would take a lot of testing and work, which is time Valve probably doesn't have with all the other stuff on their plate, especially given the declining return L4D2 is bringing in at this point since it's an older game. I realize Valve has a lot of people divided into dedicated teams, but they still aren't that big of a company and a lot of people get moved around. They're probably devoting most of their resources to bigger, more recent projects like Linux, Dota 2, Big Picture, Bigfoot, Half-Life 3 (heh), and other unannounced stuff that Gabe has hinted at. A shit ton of testing goes into every project, and that in itself consumes a lot of time and people.
Am I seriously feeling nostalgic about 2009 right now?
I'm feeling pretty nostalgic, but I'm also probably one of the twelve or so people that heard that song when it came out way back in 2006.
Jonathan Coulton is overrated.
of all the things you could've possibly called out coulton on, you called him overrated? holy fucking shit hahahaha i can't even insult you for something that dumb, i'm just going to point out how funny your post is and force you to insult yourself [editline]27th January 2013[/editline] i mean, i've had numerous conversations with the guy, hung out with him, listened to tons of his music, etc and there's a lot you could've insulted him on
