I thought that was just how the British government has always been run.
Probably depends on the area, loads of people do these useless game design courses and other offshoots that won't really set you up for the real world.
Design and Media are very necessary to the populace and the economy.
It's all about the connections you make really, but that's on a university basis anyhow.

*sweeping generalisation*
Depending on the university, Game Design courses get you pretty much straight into a development company if you do good work on the course. I don't see how being taught the trade by people in the trade with links directly to the trade could possible not set you up for the trade, ie. the "real world" as you put it.
Do your research before dismissing design courses as pointless.
I meant that as the focus of the course is so precisely focused on an already competitive industry you are more likely to be unemployed than someone who did a general Comp Sci degree who has a wider range of computing knowledge.

do you even have the slightest idea how our political system works?

I'm sure if they used 1.0 liter diesel Ka's instead of huge £60,000, 3.6 liter V6 engined luxury saloons they could cut some money off the budget.

Yeah well, that's why you should only go onto those courses if you are actually good at your chosen field. The people who don't get employed at the end are the people who chose to go on the course because they really really love CoD.

Here here! I've heard MPs have spent £20 million on expenses thus far since July 2010. The fuck are they doing?

Games Design and Games Programming are two seperate things don't forget.
I've had this debate with my dad though, whether I should do Computer Science or Games Programming.

Depends on what games degree you do. A good Games Programming degree will be more Software Engineering but with some games related modules (around 30%) being apart of the syllabus. Some people from my class went straight into Senior roles. With my degree I got a job fairly quickly.
It all winds down though to what University you go to. Sometimes the games related course will be better and other times a more general one will be better. Check the syllabus of the University you have your eye on first and make an informed decision from there.

I remember hearing about this on the news, for some bullshit reason an MP wasn't allowed to carry their "red box" in anything other than a secure car.

5 years ago i would of said games programming, but with how things are now and with every other IT literate student wanting to do games, theres going to be LOADS of people to compete with so if you get a comp science course you can atleast have a good oportunity at other jobs

This
Do computer science and take some game related modules. At the end you'll have relevant skils in both general I.T and Games programming.
I wish there were not going to be riots about this, but people will be stupid.
Don't see any reasons for riots at all, hurting people and doing damage just ends up costing everyone a lot of time and money,it's not going to solve anything.

It makes more of an impact than ddos-ing some sites for a day or two. It's about giving a sign and making yourself heard. You can understand why people are angry.
Gonna laugh when they raise the price even more after people break millions of dollars worth of shit.

If those teenage rioting douches break my stuff, I would hope tuition fees are raised just to spite them. The whole point of being heard is to make yourself look like the good guy, breaking my cars windows is not that way to do that.

We use pounds so there will be no dollars worth of shit broken
Ah fuck

Well writing angry letters isn't going to do anything is it? Violence is a tried and proven method of making people listen. Get used to it. The French Revolution didn't happen because people sat at home and complained.

Do you actually understand a students view on this? No one in the government will listen without serious action. The tuition fees are been increased because we have the least say, imagine the problems if they tried increasing taxes just 2%, now compare it to the 300% increase students are having.
Also there is the whole betrayal aspect aimed at the Lib Dems.
