You get a loan with the Student Loans Company. They don't expect you to do it in a part time job all by yourself. A part time job can have a pretty negative effect on your degree, I only had a Christmas temp job back at University for the extra cash for presents. One guy I knew had to re-take a year as he spent too much time doing part time work instead of his assignments.

YOU DON'T PAY IT BACK UNTIL AFTER YOU FINISH UNI YOU DENSE FUCK
Actually you don't get to go to University for being so easily led you idiot.
Sadly, I am probably going to a media/design university with no campus so me and my friend are going to have to fund our flat by ourselves. That means living at home for half a year or so while we hoard the part-time work to save up, and then continuing to work part-time to carry on paying for the flat. ... all this while doing my degree.
Holy fucking shit, people are stupid.
Yes in a few years time people will be going to university and the courses will cost more, but the amount you need to be earning before you even have to pay anything back is higher. This ensures you have a better job before you have to commit to paying for your course.
Why are all these people complaining with crappy reasons e.g. "Oh university is becoming more expensive, I won't be able to afford it" etc. People just hear about the rise in tuition fees and hop on the bandwagon without even looking into it.

Well writing angry letters isn't going to do anything is it? Violence is a tried and proven method of making people listen. Get used to it. The French Revolution didn't happen because people sat at home and complained.
No, but making yourself out to be the bad guy didn't win the french the heart of their people, now did it?

Yes that's all well and good assuming you get a nice £40,000 salary out of university. But what if you do a course where the job you get at the end is only just over the repay-barrier? That's a lot of debt for a small pay packet.

Who thinks they're the bad guys? I don't. Unless it's those pesky anarchists getting in on our plight.... which sadly it is.

But paying back £9,000 for a years education when you're earning £21,000 or over is better than the current system of paying back £3,000 for a years education when you earn £15,000 or over. The problem you've highlighted exists now but will actually have less effect when the new system comes into effect.

But you will still have £40,000 - £60,000 of debt. That's a lot of debt.
In fact here's an example:
You do a course that after 3 years comes to a cost of say, £10,000. You get out of uni with a job earning the bare minimum requirement for paying back, which is £15,000. If you paid back something like 5% per year then you can think of it as earning £14,500.
Under the new system you rack up a bigger debt, more along the lines of £27,000, but since you need to earn £21,000 per year before you pay back anything, you can afford more like 5-10% and pay back £1,350-2,700 per year. You're better off than before.

What? Where do you get that figure from?

He might be including the maintenance loan.
He might be including the maintenance loan.
Top limit of maintenance loan now is more or less 4K, so couple that with 9k tuition fees per year, thats £39,000 you owe the government after a 3 year degree.
that doesn't take into account the inevitable bank account overdrafts you'll need to use
He might be including the maintenance loan.
You only get £3,000 max per year as it is I think, I think he just exaggerated haha.
Also my calculations assume you do a degree that costs £9,000 a year, which people seem to assume will be the case. Most degrees aren't going up that high, most will probably go to around £6,000 unless it's some postgraduate qualification.

Hardly, you just better think twice about how much you really need that degree.
I predict huge gains for the left at the next election. (I know I will vote for them).

Now tell me that it's unfair to take things out on the police when they stand in your way.

More likely to just be massive swings away from Lib Dems. Conservative voters are least likely to be put off by this as the Conservatives were expected to do something like this.
I found the cunt list - Lib Dems who voted for it.

[editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
Okay so Mark Reckless is the best MP ever. He voted against it and "On 11 July 2010, Mr Reckless apologised on BBC Radio Kent for being too drunk to vote during a late night sitting of the House of Commons."
Fucking hero.
On the plus side...we can stop protesting now, and get on with some shameless rioting.

Well at least the MP in my constituency voted against it :unsmith:
Our MP came into Sixth Form and just said,
even though you're my consituents, i'm voting for the fees rise, deal with it.
what a monumental cock-up
Funnily enough, this is is going to increase the number of so called 'mickey mouse' degrees, because although the fees are rising, the funding is being slashed massively at the same time, so universities are going to do shitloads of courses in an attempt to get people to attend (although similiar subjects will share the majority of their lectures).
But I like my BSc Surf Science & Technology! :downs:
But I like my BSc Surf Science & Technology!
Well in the next few years you'll have the choice of Surf Science & Technology, Surf Technology & Science, Appled Surf Science & and Technology, Surf Science with Applied Surf Technology and more! All for the money dear boy, all for the money.
BSc Flossing.
Wish I was there in riot gear. Looks so fun.
"Get the fuck back!!"
Best parts were where 30 of them suddenly swarmed in out of nowhere
really, the british government has become a nanny state
they need to cut costs before they raise taxes and such - what they're doing now is just retarded. in my opinion british government needs massive reform anyway, stuff like the royal family has become outdated and obsolete
As I said in that other thread, I went there. Got pictures.

I saw the MP do some fucking sick stuff. For example they 'randomly' searched an arab photographer under the terrorism act, didn't bring/couldn't find a medic to a girl having a seizure (she'd been kettled without her drugs).
In short, I feel it's fucked up how the police handled the situation
