Dear Mods: If I wanted robots that banned without any consideration for context or sense of propriety, I would have coded them.

In most cases, they publish instead of developing.

Yes.

They are also a developer.
I myself downloaded HL2 and EP1 like 3 years ago but I liked the games a lot and I bought Orange Box.

He might of not actually done anything illegal.
Havn't we all downloaded hl2? does it even come on CD's anymore?
Yes.

Glad we agree. I just over-generalized in my first post.
Valve and Crytek are my two favourite developers, they both push the boat out for new developments and ways of delivering that content to the user at minimum hassle.
Crytek? They use SecuROM (albeit only because they use EA Partners)

Garry, once again, you've taken kick ass to a new height. That's why I made sure to state that what I did is legal and not warez.
To be honest, most people who pirate games are people who weren't going to buy it if they hadn't. And in many cases, the people who do pirate games, music, or movies go on to actually buy the media afterward. Its like a trial game without a time limit.
I've bought all of Valve's games, which isn't normal for me. They are completing right and I will continue buying their games.
Completely right.* Isn't allowing me to edit my post.
Only Valve game I pirated was HL2 around when it came out. It was a corrupt copy, so I bought it legit.

Oh, and now my Steam account is only one game short of the Valve complete pack. So it's not like I'm a bad customer.
I also remember studies showing that people who pirate generally spend more money on legit things than people who don't pirate.
i bought tf2, portal, all the half-lifes, left 4 dead, the ship, garrysmod and audiosurf. why? because valve ensures bang for your buck

be careful garry you'll get banned
That, and using Steam is better. More than I can say from the rest of the digital distribuition platforms.
Yeah EA's thing is useless.
I'm like what the fuck man stop wasting my memory I need that for important things.
Never pirate valve games, they're actually worth every cent of my money.
i respect valve way too much to even think of pirating them...
also, who is giving everyone rainbows?
Damn right. I know I could have gotten Half-Life Ep1, and Ep2 by... other means, but I didn't. I bought them, because Valve is awesome, and so are their games.
I bought them because I have garrysmod, I need the content :3
To be honest, the only reason I don't pirate Valve games is because they have amazing multiplayer. I think it's more about having great multiplayer than having a great game, since you can't play online with a pirated game.
I thought the secret to combating piracy was to make MP only games with constant updates, so that you can't play online with a copy because it's all fucked up.

Hardly an effective equation, as MP only games != Good games.

So Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, and Day of Defeat aren't good games?

They are not bad because they are multiplayer only. He is saying that games being multiplayer only do not make them good games. Games being good being what's important here.
Valve's hit the nail on the head once again, I'd never dream of downloading a truely great game, same goes for the people I know, when a shitty little game comes out, yeah sure people are going to illegaly download it but with games like Half-Life(2) they deserve the money!
Hell I *cough coughed* far cry when it first came out, I then bought it because I got my £20-30 out of it and more!
