I'm pretty sure the guy who started it stated that it was a hoax: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/11975/article/fallout-4-rumor-is-a-bunch-of-fake-nonsense/
What's the likelihood of the editor specifically editing their music to the FO3 trailer?
Uh, it's a formula that is familiar and would induce hype if followed. New Vegas's trailer did it somewhat, with the start in the casino and moving outwards until the hostile surroundings of Vegas are shown. We've got two cases of precedent (more if you count the intro movies from the older games), and it would make sense for "Bethesda" to make their next trailer in a similar format. Cue the guy who wants to make a convincing hoax and all he has to do is take one of two trailers from the recent games and follow their cues.
I literally do not understand what is supposed to be so improbable about this.

Pooperfucker was the guy who "found" the song on puush.
Anyone who believed this was fucking stupid tbh.
He found it by punching in random Puu.sh links, why would Beth put their trailer on PUUSH.

I'll hand it to the Mario game though, thats some kickass music.
The wild ride just keeps chuggin'.

if it is fake, then the hoaxer sure enjoys to ditch out the window some few thousands of bucks for that website.
Kotaku wrote an article on why they think that website is fake.
It includes such gems as:
"Would a professional video game company really put up a teaser website with such an annoying beeping noise? I mean, really?" - Apparently Morse code doesn't exist.
It sounds like you expected gaming journalism from kotaku!
I may be wrong but I don't think this website is really Bethesda's style anyway. In the past they've tried to keep things under wraps until an official announcement.

"Bethesda hasn't said a thing." - It would kind of ruin the whole point of the ARG if they came out and talked about it.
What do you expect from Kotaku? They're Kotaku for crying out loud.

I'm guessing its a bible phrase and we need to unscramble it.

According to the Reddit thread it's "TAKE ME BACK TO THE DAY WHEN I COULD EASILY SAY THAT PERSISTENCE AND DEVOTION WILL PAVE MY WAY. OPPRESSOR, ENFORCER HOW COULD YOU".
Take that with a grain of salt, though.
19
My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit;
a contrite, humbled heart, O God, you will not scorn.
20
Treat Zion kindly according to your good will;
build up the walls of Jerusalem.
21
Then you will desire the sacrifices of the just,
burnt offering and whole offerings;
then they will offer up young bulls on your altar.
Psalm 51:19- 51:21 Sacrifices? Altars? Building up"new walls" a.k.a. New civilization?
Someone in the IRC decoded it

Based on PPS I'm going to guess it's not just a simple letter swap cipher as there aren't many three letter words that begin with double letters.
Someone in the IRC decoded it
the beginning isn't decoded though?
Stolen from /v/ which was stolen from wikipedia.
KVNGR = Keyed Vigenére Cipher REV ALPHA = reversed alphabet PPS = PASS PHRASE VT = VAULTTEC So Keyed Vigenére Cipher with reversed alphabet and "VAULTTEC" as pass phrase.

I knew that sounded too familiar. Especially after watching Game Grumps play SMW.
please be rage 2
Some guy is trying to scam people with vault119.com
It has no connections to ZeniMax or Bethesda.
This is some seriously good ARG shit. With the amount of stuff people manage to find, so fascinating.
The site is not legit.
It looks like the easiest method of getting the closest to legit-looking site was chosen (minimalistic, so you don't need to know how to make graphics at all).
The countdown script is a free script on the internet made by some polish guy.
The only thing that is making people believe its legit is the organization in the whois. When you register a domain through godaddy, they don't really do any in depth verifications of the info.
Registering a troll domain like that through godaddy would cost about 13$ per year.
Hosting it costs 5$ per month.
It costs the troll 18$ to troll the entire internet with a fake countdown and make people waste their time by decoding messages.

Wasn't it discovered that the group who made the Prepare for The Future site was behind this?
E: From a Google Doc keeping track
Reddit user Bio388 pointed out the google analytics code on this site, is the same one used by Bethesda on their fallout.bethesda.com site. http://imgur.com/gallery/0zqZm/new
But why would you care about people believing that site tho? It doesn't hurt you when people believe it.
At least you would be the one laughing afterwards, if the site turns out to be a hoax.
