You can't assign some arbitrary position to these people for just having fun. I am in no way disturbed by them doing this. Good on them for livening up their military lives, but it has no effect on me or anyone else for that matter. So why get your knickers in a twist about it? I find being a relentless moral/etiquette crusader and slamming people for every little thing reflects on you and your organization even worse than letting them blow off steam/just have fun. Balance is key, broski.
It's already pretty dumb to post raunchy photos of yourself on social media sites, but the real problem comes from them doing it in uniform.
has no one else noticed it says "SITR" cause it bothers meeeeeeeee
wouldnt expect that from the idf
Isn't the IDF considered one of the worst western armies? Recruit and training wise.
Oh no, 18 year old girls in a conscript army are acting like 18 year old girls. Whatever will we do?
They look like teenage girls in soldier uniforms.
thats what they are
Isn't the IDF considered one of the worst western armies? Recruit and training wise.
Not quite. As it stands, the IDF is recruiting virtually everyone bar a few select groups of people and minorities. Mandatory conscription brings the overall performance of the military down due to all sorts of varying factors that come into play when you recruit everyone. However, the IDF is one of the best militaries today with active, mandatory conscription in place. Because Israel is comprised of many different ethnic groups, much of the tactics the IDF employs are a culmination and collection of many different ideas and methods taken from many different (mostly Western) armies. The technological capability, combined with some of the best scientific minds available in the West, grants Israel unrivaled, top-of-the-line technological expertise in the Middle East. And in some areas, even excels to a greater extent than some European states. Israel also possess some of the best MBTs available today, with modern up-to-date engineering, and a wide arsenal of missiles and rockets designed to both strike and intercept. With all this in mind, Israel also has a lot of experience in combat, being in countless of conflicts and wars since its foundation. So essentially, the IDF has the complete package. The only, in my opinion, fatal flaw it has is the mandatory conscription. It would be much more efficient to run a smaller military in exchange for more focus on every soldier and his performance, but it seems that paranoia has gotten the best of our generals and presidents so we absolutely must have a large standing army capable of defending the country on all fronts if such an attack should happen. It's a shame, because this only drags the quality and performance of the military as a whole down.
It's just the military trying to act professional. It doesn't look good when you know that people like the one's in the picture are protect your country.
Being professional is one thing, but is it really a bad thing to know that the people serving in the armed forces are human beings that like to have fun too? (albeit fit and combat-ready, but that is beside the point) Things like this should serve as reminders to people that soldiers aren't cold, calculating machines who deserve solemn yet indirect reverence, as opposed to real respect, the respect for another human being with feelings, quirks, a personality. People often don't see soldiers as human beings, which is incredibly wrong. They're people too, not just robots protecting us
did you just read Starship Troopers
No, it is on my "Must Read Sci-fi" list, though.
I've noticed a lot of Israeli female soldiers are pretty. I wonder if this is unique to Israel or if they have their fair share of ugly women just like other militaries.
Mandatory conscription includes women too. If the US drafted every women at age 18, the US military would look extremely attractive as well.
Nothing to see
I've never felt comfortable about the draft. It kinda scares me that because the people who watch over us couldn't be rational with each other makes it so one whole generation of kids have to give up their lives. I want control of my own future. I hope the people who tell me "the mandatory draft wont happen in the u.s. today" are right. But history is going to repeat itself and there will be a boiling point. What's are the Israeli draft laws?

It isn't like they're out-right saying YOU BETTER SIGN UP. There are actually benefits from signing up. If the draft is ever actually used when I'm alive (And im not already in the service) I will go along with it. It way better then being automatically forced to do a 4 year term.
i get the distinct impression that being in the IDF is a large waste of time
Which mountain of a rock are you living under.
wouldnt expect that from the idf
really you wouldn't expect that from conscripts out of high school really
What a waste of resources...
did you just read Starship Troopers
To be fair to Starship Troopers, the whipping in that was for a fairly serious fuck up.
