I played with IE10 in Metro took me three minutes to figure out how to bring up the address bar and another three to figure out how to manage tabs (turns out it was right-click, which apparently means context menus don't exist anymore) god forbid I wanted to save some bookmarks, I don't have all week really intuitive interface you have going here MS
Context menus still work. And bookmark is right beside the address bar.
Who cares? Everyone knows that IE's only reason to exist is so people have a way to download Firefox/Chrome/Opera after a fresh Windows installation.

I hate how the address bar is net to the tab. ugh
If you don't care, why'd you post?
Because I can't pass up an opportunity to pick on IE. :eng101:
wow, I wouldn't have minded a toolbar or two on my tablet.
When is google going to make me an operating system so i can stop buying overpriced pieces of junk for OS.
When is google going to make me an operating system so i can stop buying overpriced pieces of junk for OS.
ChromeOS
Didn't the EU ban microsoft from shipping windows with IE?
Context menus still work. And bookmark is right beside the address bar.
How do I get context menus in the metro interface because I'm tried every combination of mouse clicks and keys I could think of
Didn't the EU ban microsoft from shipping windows with IE?
Sort of, because its such a key component of windows its still there, but you get a choice when you first start it and it can be disabled (to the point where you can't start it, other things can still use it so things don't suddenly break).
How do I get context menus in the metro interface because I'm tried every combination of mouse clicks and keys I could think of
Due to IIE10's simplicity the only context menu you get is when you hover a link or select text. Other things like bookmark, back, forward are in the address bar. Email is in the share charm (the start menu that opens in the bottom left) I wouldn't call it a full featured browser at this point (it's only Platform Preview 3), but we still have 3/4ths of a year to go before this finalizes. In metro apps in general you have to right click an element to open the context menu (if it has one), right clicking the background opens the app gutter (I forgot the nice name they called it).
When is google going to make me an operating system so i can stop buying overpriced pieces of junk for OS.
Google made it's own OS which right now is a piece of shit, but I can imagine it'll get better. It's highly based on Google Chrome and most of it is cloud based, meaning it starts up much faster than any other OS but you're just about screwed if you don't have an internet connection. (Google has stated since it came out that they're adding support for offline application usage)
Google made it's own OS which right now is a piece of shit, but I can imagine it'll get better.
ChromeOS is absolutely not a piece of shit
ChromeOS is absolutely not a piece of shit
Yeah, yeah it is at this moment.
Opera master race.
Yeah, yeah it is at this moment.
no, no it's not
no, no it's not
I'm saying as of now it is, but it has a shit load of promise.
no, it's not a piece of shit right now if you think it's shitty because it's based in the cloud then the problem is you, not the OS. stop using ChromeOS if you aren't going to be connected to the net while using it.
Yeah, yeah it is at this moment.

no, no it's not
yeah it is no it's not yeah it is no it's not repeat ad nauseum and I just finished your argument for you. Now shut the fuck up. [editline]16th September 2011[/editline] RE: Topic It's about time someone started dropping browser toolbar support. Every single browser toolbar out there (yes, even the ones from legit companies like Google's toolbar) cause significant problems with browsers (ranging from the browser taking forever to start to malware).
no, it's not a piece of shit right now if you think it's shitty because it's based in the cloud then the problem is you, not the OS. stop using ChromeOS if you aren't going to be connected to the net while using it.
I'm saying that at the moment it shows great promise and will no doubt change OSs forever if it can get better, the problem is that you can't do everything in the cloud. And the cloud thing isn't why I think it's shitty.
I really haven't seen a reason for ChromeOS. It's great if you want to start up into a browser quickly, but beyond that... nothing. I currently boot up my netbook and am greeted with whatever interface I want, thousands upon thousands of possible programs, and a choice of browsers. Even if I went insane and replaced Fedora with Android, I'd still have thousands upon thousands of programs and several web browsers to choose from. Chromebooks have one browser and roughly zero programs (apps are all web-based). They fill a void that doesn't exist.
I didn't say they were money hungry or trying to form a monopoly, I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.

Microsoft's monopoly bullshit
Either way, like it or not I.E. is still the leading browser on the market.
Either way, like it or not I.E. is still the leading browser on the market.
I still don't see how that shows that I was saying that they were money hungry or trying to form a monopoly. The fact is that they do have a monopoly (and it is a bit bullshit, for various reasons), they might not have set out with the intention of making it.
Either way, like it or not I.E. is still the leading browser on the market.
Of course they have the leading browser. It has nothing to do with quality or any of that shit. Microsoft Windows XP is the most popular OS on the planet (OSX has only 10% of OS market share in the US and 5% worldwide) followed by Windows 7 and then Windows Vista, and the average person usually just uses the out of the box browser. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Operating_system_usage_share.svg (I am not saying IE sucks or anything, I am only stating a fact)
My question is why the fuck are we trying to so radically change the desktop UI paradigm? Live tiles are one thing, but they can't dominate your entire interface. This will be a mistake. Not for tablets, but Microsoft is chasing after tablets while simultaneously destroying it's non-touch usability for everything else that everyone else has.
