Dropping support with a single update 6-12 months after release is appalling.
I don't see it mentioned anywhere that they are totally abandoning the WP7 OS. MS are known to support legacy OSes for ages, just look at XP. You are the first mention in this entire thread of them dropping support for it.
And I don't mean "get used to it" as "go out and buy it for fucks sake". I mean, it's going to happen in some way, so just accept that something you bought is probably obsolete already.
If any of you took the time to read the article and watch the video you'd see that you can re-arrange the apps on the home screen and their size...
It looks a lot better on the examples shown in the video, but it's still a bit in your face, lots of stuff going off at once.
UI looks better than anything iOS or Android to me. Don't like the clutter? Don't use the smallest tile size.
Microsoft and their finnish bitches will regret about competing with Google and Apple. Mark my words.

They're marked.

Perhaps with phones, I have an odd feeling that x86 windows tablets are going to kick shit out of the competition.
Are they resizeable, it looks like a fucking mess

Yes, they are.

Thank god

Android is perfectly capable of looking busy as fuck too.
Both of them are just as capable as being made to look good, though.
The smaller tiles are actually about the same size as Android icons.

See, this layout looks waaay nicer.
Neat, can't wait to try it out on my phone.

Mmmm... symetry!
Since I'm on a contract, I never got the chance to get a 7.5 WP. I guess that makes me lucky, but I planned on switching to an iPhone or Android since they're more supported, but... if and only if Telstra releases WP8 on their 4G network, I might consider getting one.
no, I got my Lumia 800 like 6 months ago give me Windows Phone 8 not some mid way bullshit.
The difference between 7.8 and 8.0 are just the hardware specific things new to WP8 Phones. All the other new features are there. Even if you install 8.0 on a WP7 era device you wouldn't be able to use the features that are specific to 8.0.
Though it begs the question why label it as 7.8

Does 7.8 have all of 8.0's new API's available?
I like my WP7. It's simple and very easy to navigate. Much easier than my old iPhone. Plus, I like the pretty colors. :)
I'm willing to bet that you can set the tile size.
(making all the "it's cluttered and terrible" complaints completely moot)

I wouldn't believe so, as apps made for WP8 won't work on older devices.
Doesn't the rejigged Start Menu represent a completely different way of using WP7/8? I thought the whole point of leaving the gap to the right was to try tempt you to swipe over there, along with all the cut off text and stuff. Bit weird they are totally shafting that.

It's the third sentence of the tiny article snippet that basically says it just adds support for smaller tiles. So basically anyone who comes in and complains about how tiny and cluttered it looks only looked at the picture and didn't bother to read a few sentences.
