Wow there really is a Nirvana song for everything.
Why do you assume they are atheists?
I didn't assume they were, don't feel oppressed or offended
But given the times and the fact there already were a few ~militant atheists~ who proved their stupidity, I just said that whoever stole this thing may be one of the few butthurt anti-theists who try to piss off religion at a maximum level known as ~militant atheists~.
And what's with people always trying to water down reality by saying "it's always just X" or "who gives a shit about some old X", seriously ? If there are news about it the first thing you should ask yourself is why does this have news and is it really important enough to have one, and most of the time the answer is Yes to both questions.
It happens even more with religion (not always, there was that one very old tree that got burned down and people were like "WHO CARES IT'S JUST A TREE" on the forum).
This is really bad, my country has seen through riots, bombings and just general shenanigans;
But as one of the Op's said a lot our relics are being stolen lately.
It makes me weep as the future children (Who are now men if that makes sense) have no respect of the old Ireland.
Oh well, someone give me a potato etc.
How valuable could that heart honestly be?

That devious bastard
I had a good hearty chuckle at that one
I bet a necrophile stole it.
That's extremely disappointing. Hope it doesn't wind up being destroyed as this all plays out.
Since last autumn, Dublin and Tipperary have had FOUR holy relics stolen.

This is the thing it's kept in:

How the fuck did they even get to it, then?
Quite true, but this ain't Thief.
Also it's kinda interesting to have a 900 year old heart last that long. What manner of preservation did they have back in the 13th century anyway; did they just pickle Larry's heart in monastic brew, or did they already have natron like the Egyptians?
The Egyptians using natron was waaaay before the 13th century.
People those day's also knew the earth wasn't flat.
Really? I thought that the secret of natron didn't come to Europe until way later, and if the Romans picked it up from the Egyptians the secrets were lost in the Dark Ages...
With all these weird stories of why it was stolen, as a native I can assure you there are only two reason, A. ransom for hard cash or B. (most likely) It was taken like so many other church things for scrap money, by folk of disreputable reputation. 2 month's ago in our Parish, some lads broke into the church and made off with the copper or brass relief's on the walls along with some spool wire round the back. It's ridiculous.
Naah, there are some wrong thoughts about Medieval times in Europe.
They did learn alot form the Romans, like medicine and stuff.
My little sister learned on school yesterday, that in those times, everyone tossed there waste on the streets...
But even animals now that, that isnt a smart thing.
I'm not sure if they did it exactly like the Egyptians, but there are cases known (an bodies found) that have been treated in almost the same way.
Just didn't happen very often, cause... why would you want a body to last for that long? :V
How the fuck did they even get to it, then?
I think the real question is who the hell checks if it even is in that weird box thingy every once in a while.
Who knows how long it has been missing then.
Unless they checked it daily ofcourse.
"You are chosen!"
"Cool. What for?"
"Checking up on the 900 year old hart, be sure not to breath while at it" :V
I can understand a market for stolen paintings and books but if this was a heist of sorts who the fuck would pay for it.
Some wealthy eccentric probably wants to put it up his arse.
Did they check in between the couch cushions? That's were I find all my missing stuff.
This could very well be the plot of a Mr. Bean movie.
Did the cage or the box get stolen or did they pop the thing open to find it's empty? The latter would have been kinda predictable. Anyway, the thing must look like a fucking raisin by now. Who gives a fuck about a dried-up pice of flesh from some ancient kiddie-fiddler anyway? It's not like the thing is benifitial in any way or an important relict of human history. Pope was like 'yo, this shit be holy'
fuck off
Satanists are going to use it in an ancient summoning ritual to bring forth Baal and his demon army. The sky will rain molten lead, the seas will turn to blood. They will spare neither women or children. Our only hope is Captain Planet and the Planeteers.
