TI-84 calculator reportedly being updated with a color screen

I use a TI 34 still....
Oh goddammit I got my TI-84 this summer for pre-cal.
Fuck you Texas Instruments.
I have one of these calculators which I use in college (Electrical Engineering). It's a seriously awesome beast or algebra.
I do wish it had a better screen though, and I also bought it 4 months before the NSpire CAS came out. This makes me sad.
TI-92 is TI-89 with larger screen and QWERTY keyboard
I vote this thread's title as the most boring and tedious sounding subject for discussion for this year
"Golly, rumour has it that this calculator might get a colour screen"
Really goes to show that there's quite a few scientists and mathematicians here on Facepunch
There are certainly worse places to spend time on the internet

because news about videogames and people falling off bikes is so much more important
I always thought it was funny that I could get an HP calculator for $80 that had the same or better specs than their $200 calculator
I think they like toting their 'ACT Approved' status is all
Because calculators are a lot cheaper than a smart device.
wrong
TI-84+ SE (the one that most high schools require) $122.91

nice try
I don't get it,
It's a calculator.
Whats the beef?
Graphic calculators are used for advanced math, stuff like trigonometry, simultaneous equations, graphs, advance algebra and a bunch of other stuff that is ether too hard for a normal person to work out mentally, or more actuate with a machine (Pi and trigonometry, for example).
I still have a Casio ClassPad I still use from time to time, and scientific calculator I use even more. They cost a lot of money for a relativity basic piece of computing hardware by modern stadards. I guess it has to do with fine tuning and what not for mathematical accuracy, and my ClassPad is a touch screen which I guess would add to the cost.

Just found it funny how there are threads ranging from news on matters of international importance, to the fact a specific calculator might be getting a different screen.
I've been using the same graphing calculator for about 7-8 years, no problems yet.
Just replaced the battery in my casio fx-100 after 7 years.
Crazy.

I replaced mine last Spring, after not changing them for a couple years. It's fantastic.

You just don't understand. IT'S MORE THAN JUST A CALCULATOR, IT IS A WAY OF LIIIIFE!
I used an SR-52 until I couldn't read the moon lander or trig formula program off the magnetic strip. Then I got a TI-83 plus off my sister and spent days playing Gangstaz.

It's not a calculator, it's the calculator.
Current old B&W TI-84+ is way too expensive for the low-rez screen and limited memory.
TI-92 is TI-89 with larger screen and QWERTY keyboard
But the problem with that is you can't use it on most standardized tests.
I'm pretty sure that this is why they're giving the TI84 a color screen rather any other calculator.
so why are graphing calculators so high priced still? XKCD brings up a good point
so why are graphing calculators so high priced still? XKCD brings up a good point
Because they can get away with it?

I got this calculator. You can laugh all you want but I just want to say it's worth the money.

I bet your calculator can't draw these pretty colourful rainbows.

phhht I can make 3D doughnuts on mine.
I forgot the formula for it tho. :v:
I used to know a formula that would draw a dick
I just realized that Apple has the same business plan as Texas Instrument.
They are trying to corner the smartphone market while introducing small, incremental updates every few years, while keeping the prices nice and high.
Tricky tricky.
Because teachers would just think you're on Facebook.
When you're instead playing Pokémon Yellow on your calculator.
Wrap the classroom in a faraday cage :v:
Oh good because mine got stolen out of my backpack last year. I guess I don't really need it anymore, since I'm not taking any calculus classes. Still pisses me off though. $100 gone.

*Still, I found a graphing application for my Nokia E63 ($200 off-contract phone 3 years ago by the way). The graphs are instantly rendered, just as precise, screen is higher res and in color, AND is still a phone, MP3 player, wifi capable, physical keyboard...etc..etc. Blows my mind that TI could get away with making these and STILL selling them at the same price 15 years ago (with a small refresh about 10 years ago).
TI
hey TI
why don't you
why don't you put Android
on your calculators
and just don't put any cellular or wifi radios in them
that way they're still class friendly
Im considering buying the CX CAS due to it's color screen, or the TI-89 if teachers object. 150 Eur is a price I'm willing to pay for a calculator that does all sorts of incredible shit.
Wish they would upgrade the TI-89 :(

How do i get one of these?
maths seems so much interesting with one of these
pffft TI
Casio masterrace
If I'm not mistaken you can't even run C programs on a ti84, plus the interface/button layout on all Casios is the most intuitive thing I've ever seen

One of the points of a calculator is that it can take a thrashing, and last more than one day. Putting Android on one of these would require much faster hardware to provide a just passable experience, and with that would come much larger power draw. And why would you want Android on one of these anyway? Just get a smartphone.
