• You just got played: Putin buys back Russian energy companies
Prior to this, part of the stocks of Russian energetic companies belonged to the foreign investors (American and European) which meant that almost half of the profit from oil and gas companies did not went to Russian treasury, but to accounts of “financial sharks” in Europe, writes “Novosti”. Because of the situation in Crimea, ruble began to fall dramatically, but Central Bank did nothing to support the exchange rate of ruble. Rumors appeared that Russia does not have sufficient money stock in order to support the exchange rate of ruble. Those rumors and Putin’s statement that he will protect Russian speaking population in Ukraine led to a dramatic fall in value of the stocks of Russian energetic companies, and “financial sharks” suddenly started to sell the stocks on the stock market before they completely lost their value. Putin waited for an entire week and only smiled at press conferences, and when the price of the stocks completely fell, he ordered immediate purchase of all stocks which were in hands of Americans and Europeans. When “financial sharks” realized they were tricked, it was already too late. Stocks were in Russian hands and not only that Russia made more than $20 billion that day, but also recovered the stocks of its companies into Russian hands. Now, all the profits made from oil and gas will stay in Russia and not go out of the country. Ruble will grow by itself and for its support it will not be necessary to spend golden reserves of Russia. European “financial sharks” remained with their heads bowed as fools – in a few minutes, for pennies, Russia bought stocks worth billions in profit from oil and gas.
inserbia.info/today/2014/12/grandmaster-putin-russia-earns-20-bln-recovers-stocks-of-its-companies/ Just found this in my Argentine forums. I'm doubting about this, but, if true, what do you guys think?
Checkmate?
putin, regardless of his track record and policy, is fucking brilliant at times.
What an awfully biased source
bullshit, look at gazprom 5 year stock price graph. That and serbians doing their daily putin wank
why didn't they just make up a new law like they did when they drove out BP?
First, Gazprom stock isn't really that cheap right now in rubles, it's about the middle of it's one-year average. It looks low in dollars/euros only because the ruble is going down the shitter, but that doesn't make it a cheap buy for Putin. Second, this sounds more like Putin trying to solidify his hold on Russia even stronger, not him defending Russia from foreign opportunists. If anything this will just hurt them more, because now they can't get foreign cash inflow as easily, and that's something the Russian economy in general desperately needs.

That and if he really did a massive buy I'd guess the stock price would have a slight rise at time of posting of this news. Instead it seems to be around the same or performing worst compared to earlier that month on historical graphs.
sounds like the plot to a fucking thriller set up an international political crisis for economic gain although looking at the stats i cant really see how putin benefited too much from this as said above
That reads like a giant load of bullshit.
Thanks guys, I wanted to know if it was bullshit. Going to comment what has been said here on my Argentina forum to see what would be answer.
The idea is not to depend on bank reserves but on money from oil exports and that the revenue would be kept by russian hands, not foreign ones. So the idea behind this is to regain control of a strategical resource.
This would be great for Putin and Russia if it were true. No, Russia is still fucked because of Putin's long standing pissing contest with the world at large.

They already have control, being a foreign stockholder doesn't magically give them some control over the oil in a strategic war sense.
This story would work, but then we must remember we don't like in a world of genius politicians, but bumbling morons are the norm. Putin most likely moved some money and assets around without fixing the root of the problem. He's still been unable to prevent the collapse of the ruble, the worsening finances of the Russian government, and the economic decline.

Waiting to see what's the answer from the Putin fans
He's pretending like keeping American money out of Russia is a good thing, and people are believing him because it seems to go along with the constant anti-American rhetoric.
You forgot the best part OP:
Such an extraordinary operation was not seen since the establishment of the stock market.
That bias is amazing. "Putin so amazing he did something never before seen since the creation of the stock market."
sounds like the plot to a fucking thriller set up an international political crisis for economic gain although looking at the stats i cant really see how putin benefited too much from this as said above
I think this was pretty much the plot of Jack Ryan except in reverse.
putin, regardless of his track record and policy, is fucking brilliant at times.
Evil men tend to be the most cunning because they're willing to sacrifice almost everything when they gamble.
So this is from last year and also fake. According to a Russian insider it's been floating around since last March.
Source based on fake copy-paste from russian image board.
I think this was pretty much the plot of Jack Ryan except in reverse.
You know I was watching that as I first read this article. Got confused for a moment.
Putin reminds me of a James Bond Villain. He's Russian. He has charming, yet creepy face. He's got nukes. He has master plans like harassing the shit out of Ukraine and economic warfare. MUWAHAHHAHA! ONE MEEEEIIILLLIONNN DOLLARRZZZ!

I'm sorry, but I love this man. Not because I agree with everything he does, but because he's just so damn dastardly, I can't get enough. Just when I start to feel bad for him its like: "Ohh-ho-ho! You sneaky little bastard, you!" Edit: Though I can only hope this is legitimate for that case.
Why is there no report option for 'utterly retarded source that shouldn't have even been considered for posting'?
Now that's a funny twist on the Nationalization of a company.
