If there's one thing that they'll never take out, it's fast travel. Don't count on it. The developers take a "if you don't like it, don't use it" stance on this matter.

Problem is they design all their quests and gameplay around fast travel (from anywhere) being used.
Lets see you try to become apart of the mages guild in Oblivion without using fast travel. You'd sooner kill yourself, because to walk (even ride) to every GODDAMN city in the entire gameworld to do some bullshit quest for each guild in order to even be apart of it is kind of rediculous. Of course it's easy as shit if you have fast travel. "Click click click... done!"
I like morrowind's system. You can fast travel, but only through the city services, or teleport spells.
I would like a combonation of that and being able to fast travel on horses (but making horses an expensive commoditiy).
The Nehrim mod also did a decent job with fast travel by having spells you had to cast in order to "teleport" to other cities, and upon doing so it consumes a teleport rune. Only problem with this was they made it too goddamn expensive (teleport runes cost 100g and are not common, and it's hard as shit to make decent cash in that mod).
Don't turn it into an MMO
please don't turn it into a fucking MMO
I personally would like to see more guilds. I'm not saying there isn't enough already, it's just that more guilds = more quests and variety. That being said, I hope no guilds are removed.
I would hate to see multiplayer in Elder Scrolls. They're just not multiplayer games, man. I could maybe get behind two-player coop, but even then it's a bit "Meeeh."
[editline]28th November 2010[/editline]
I just hope it lends itself to the modding community as well as Oblivion did.
More guilds with extensive side quests that don't amount to go there kill this and collect this
and just more quests and things to find when exploring.
Please, no more gamebryo. Please.
gamebryo is what makes the bethasda games.. bethasda games.
I think they need to take parts of Oblivion(it's open environments, massive worlds) and combine it with the things that make Mass Effect good(a decent story, good voice acting, good companions). I feel that the story was what really let down Oblivion. It was really hard for me to get into it and when I did, I didn't feel any compelling reason to finish it. With a game like Mass Effect, I felt for the characters and felt like I had a reason to finish the game.

Funny for me somehow
Why don't they take some time to learn IDtech5, and then in 4-5 years they release a new Elder Scrolls.
Why don't they take some time to learn IDtech5, and then in 4-5 years they release a new Elder Scrolls.
Because they can develop TESV now, and TESVI in 5 years.
Why did I get dumbs for my post on the first page, it's just my opinion. I'm not saying Gamebryo is better than id tech 5, I just like it. Jesus people.
Gamebryo is getting old by now, sadly. Not to mention it can be a bitch sometimes, with bugs, crashes and everything.
At least some of the bugs are FUCKING HILARIOUS.
Bethesda has had a lot of good games under its belt, every Bethesda game I've played, and Elder Scrolls game I've played, has done right by me. Sure there are those issues and things we all wished were added/fixed, (I hope they use ID Tech5, if so, TES V will be amazing, performance, and visually) but overall, I trust that they'll make another good game.
But I'll just jot a few things down here...
* Keep the awesome modabilty of Oblivion, everyone loved that, no reason to change it.
* Fix up the characters visually, and audio wise, I hated hearing the same voice for every single character because the list of actors was only 10, and even then, the big budget actors only lasted 20 minutes. The voice acting was also very bland, no real "Enthusiasm", I guarantee, if Bethesda would hold open public auditions for voices for TES V, they'll find hundreds of normal people that can act well, and with the price of Picard from Oblivion, it would still save them money. Oh, and characters, even your own, look really bad, all of them look like they came from the same ugly family tree, somehow all related with similar eyes/nose/cheeks/weight. A more in depth character customization system, and more diverse citizens will be a nice change.
* Now everyone says "Do Assassins Creed II, but in TES V". We all know that won't/can't happen. But something along the lines of greater cities, just, more people. Keep them all unique like in previous games, but add more of them. In fact, just more depth in the game would be a nice change, but I'll go into that more.
* I would like to steal from a man in Chorral, and not have a guard immediately walk in because the guy yelled. And then, have the guards of every city know what I did, without having heard/seen. I want to be able to escape the law in just one city. No telepathic link between guards please.
* More diverse armour and weapons, no more bland stuff that all looks the same except for a different texture. Bring in the crossbow, and levitation.
*Larger map altogether.
*Quests are all short, and monotonous. I'd love to see a much longer main-quest, and much more side quests. And then the sub-main-quests (Guilds) Should be longer and more engrossing as well. I'd also think that more diverse quests would be better. A quest to deliver invitations to a ballroom gala in the king's honor, and then having to stay at the party, and watch over it as a (Bouncer) guard. See, even if it could have a few bits of violence, it's a lot different from "Go to cave, go kill trolls, bring back 5 teeth".
* Co-op, I would love to go on my PC, and go about the main storyline with my friend, just playing the entire game like it's single-player, but with an extra player to make things more exciting. Console would do well with this.
* Better up the combat system, add some strategy to the game as well.
* No auto-leveling baddies, I want certain areas for weak player(s) and some areas for amazing ones. And more depth for enemy characters. Have a mudcrab and bandit fight eachother, not team up against me when I walk near. Maybe really weak creatures don't attack you if you're much stronger. A lvl 1 bandit doesn't want to tangle with a lvl 30 mage, A bear will, because he's a dumb bear.
* More clothing options.
* Diagonal running. (Actually realized thanks to Id Tech 5!?)
* Better plot/writing, already helps make quests and dialouge more realistic, but it might help make the main story better. The whole "Bad (Really strong half-mortal, deadra, or cult of deadra) wants to take over the world, stop them/it!" I don't like feeling like this fucking savior of humanity. I just want to be a guy that was in the right place at the right time. Maybe have a simple story, that has more character depth in it, and more choices. Maybe a revolution in Skyrim for democracy, have you able to join sides, based on the characters you meet, and how well you like them/ their effort.
* More options in general, if there's a quest to kill rats in a basement (God forbid) I want to be able to call pest control.
* Better graphics. I know, games shouldn't be judged for their appearance, but damn it, I love good looking nature, and if I get to see amazing looking, high resolution, 1080i looking snow covered mountains, and the cold air around me, and the grass with small drops of snow and dew, and the lighting that makes it look so cool, and nice feeling, and open, and happy, then I'll cry. TES V can be beautiful, they just need to try and make it beautiful.
* Companion system, they did it, I'd just love some nice looking High Elf lady to come adventure with me so I don't get lonely.
* No over-priced DLC.
* Diverse and large caves and dungeons, make them look unique, and amazing. With better loot reserved for harder caves. (See Auto-leveling)
* Keep the gorgeous music, we all love it.
* I want to add factions/relationships to the game, I want the things I do to matter, maybe offend a guild I'm in, and boost my relationship with a compatible Dark Elf I met at a tavern. (This will not become a relationship simulator though)
* I want things to just HAPPEN in the world, a random guy mugs an old lady, not scripted for that day, just happens. More random things, make the world ALIVE. Things should go like normal, if I'm just watching from above, no more "Things happen to my schedule)
* Deeper customization of skills, I want things to not be so simple, make them complex.
* Make it a bit more difficult.
* Fix magic and alchemy to work separate from normal stuff. Just, fix magic to seem a lot more unique, and cool, rather than another tool in my bag.
* More races, if Skyrim is where we're heading to, I'd love to see more unique architecture, and less argonians, more orcs and nords.
I think that's all I can think of, if I missed something, tell me, and I'll add it.
[editline]28th November 2010[/editline]
* Fast travel should work similar to Red Dead Redemption, or LotRO. Both work well, without giving you the feeling of magic teleportation to any location. Paying some cash to get to Chorral from Cheydinal wou'd've been better than just poofing there,
* Smarter AI, 'nuff said.
If Bethesda want more unique 'everything', they should stop being lazy with their prefabs.
* Better horses, make them the fast, amazing creatures that they're supposed to be. They just aren't worth the effort. Handling was too difficult. I'd love to see being able to fight from horseback. (Bow, sword, spear)
* Survival-ness? The ability to make camp-fires if it gets cold, cold saps your energy. The need to eat, and drink would make it more realistic. Coins and arrows have weight. Just make a hardcore mode similar to New Vegas. (Survival-wise)
[editline]28th November 2010[/editline]
Damn. broken auto-merge.
Just imagine this was connected to the other post by me.
[editline]28th November 2010[/editline]
Also, Coffee is right, I want TES V to be hand crafted, not simulated stuff done by copy pasta.
And the survival-ness of the game should not be some super special mode that gives you an achievement, it should be part of game play as it adds challenge and acceptable realism to the game.

Yeah morriwnd's was good, it's better than just clicking a place you have visited on the map.
As long as it is free roam I will probably be happy.
This makes me want to reinstall oblivion and all its awesome mods.

A linear TES. . .
God, I'd kill Tod Howard.
I don't want a massive amount of choice like in mass effect, actually.

Me too even though I just uninstalled it like 2 weeks ago.
I am surprised there isn't a surge of chatter on the Elder Scrolls Thread.
Well like the mugging thing, if you go for the mugger and kill him, you can get abit of reward from any guards in the city, instead of them going to kill you.
I read that they'll be using a heavily nodded version of Gamebryo. Hope they use Steamworks. Hope they keep system requirements low.

Some sort of a Gamebryo 2 would be great if it fixed the bugs but kept the ease of modding.
[editline]29th November 2010[/editline]
The framework for a good engine is in there somewhere.
It may even be a good game on moded gamebyro, but it won't be a golden game :smith:
No, no Gamebryo. Anything that is tainted by the abomination has to be exorcised and burned by an expert 3D animator (the better he is at animating 3D models the safer it is), then buried in a room where the walls are made of HDDs filled with high-definition textures.
Also I shall petition to classify the makers of Gamebryo as domestic terrorists.
