Okay, I'll just sit back and watch society homogenize into hordes of dorito eating, mountain dew chugging, incompetent simpletons.
[editline]22nd January 2013[/editline]
What's the use in trying to change things anyways?
have fun
Oh no, someone trying to criticize society.
Better give them the hemlock.
you're criticizing but nobody's listening
says the guy who just spent a good deal of his day arguing with me
nah man it was like 40 minutes
[editline]22nd January 2013[/editline]
i'm sorry, it was an hour

you're dionysus, you're supposed to use wine, dance, and fucking to liberate us
If it wasn't against the rules, I'd post some porn or something

I read all these negative comments saying she is dead and never will be woken up and it was a waste of money, but the point is this girl will never (if she was not already) fall in love, have kids see the wonders of the world.
you understand how scary this is when you one day at such a young age find out you are going to die and there is no way to stop it rather than accepting death which is the most scary thing out there, i would rather have the peace of mind that even some how i may have a 0.000000000001% chance of some day coming back to life than no chance at all.
i ask you to stop this argument and the disrespect to this girl she lost her life have some respect.
oh and also dionysus its easy to say i'm a hardcore guy i'm not afraid of death but if you suddenly right now found out you had a week or a year to live i think you would at least want peace of mind or you would be crying like a little coward.

Neither will the 20,000+ children who died today.

I never said I didn't fear death.
thing is i dont care about those 20 thousand people, i care about this one nice girl that could have become every thing now has the chance to live a life one day and now that gives me a smile, knowing that she had a smile on her face or a glimmer of hope rather than being depressed and sad :downs: .
and 20 thousand people dead is completely irreverent to the argument we are talking about 1 girl that was given hope and dionysus tell me then what should people have done with the 30 thousand or so dollars ? i don't see how people are out of pocket if they all gave a dollar.
dionysus tell me then what should people have done with the 30 thousand or so dollars ?
There's a lot that could have been done with that money.
Malaria nets for example cost about $5 each.

Because it is feeding into a system that preys on terminally ill people. Sure this time the money came out of pocket of people who could afford it. But what about the people who spend their life savings on this and leave almost nothing for their family?
Are you saying that the people who sell fake cures for cancer are vindicated because they provide a "glimmer of hope"?
These cryonic companies are horrible and harmful.
hope is worth the money is all i'm saying, good bye.
hope is worth the money is all i'm saying, good bye.
Edit.
So its ok to scam sick people, just as long as you give them some fake hope?
The bigger problem is the procedure to bring people back to life that will one day be developed will cost money, and lots of it. And that $30,000 she payed was solely for the cryogenic preservation, not the yet-to-be-invented resurrection procedure that would likely cost millions.
It's not like she is the only one to be frozen before, so even if there was a kind hearted wealthy benefactor he/she would have to pick from countless frozen people to revive.
The whole point of cryosleep is to survive long enough until we have the technology to reverse the problems they had and revive them. She'll be able to survive like that for a pretty long time so there's a good chance we can actually solve this shit before she starts to properly decay.
Though what would be the point when most of your friends and loved ones would be old or dead?

Again, they can all sign up.

They can be revived one at a time, centuries apart. They have all the time in the world.
In her mind, she already woke up and we are just a thing of the past.
do people in cryonics dream while there in there or are just dead . ?
do people in cryonics dream while there in there or are just dead . ?
They're dead it's as simple as that. It's like being dead anywhere else except if they can revive her it'll be instantaneous from her end. As soon as she died she will have been revived and she wouldn't notice a second has past.

are your family and friends literally the only thing on this earth you consider worth living for?
The "why would anyone want to revive them" argument is retarded
The whole point is that it's not just slicing heads and stuffing them into a freezer, the cells don't get any significant decay so, if a team of scientists theorizes a very plausible way to restore the blood circulation after cryoprotection, after testing on rats and whatnot, they'll want to do it for real. This way, they'll have viable subjects for the proceedure and not shit with decay

That whole process is faith based, not science based.
You are having faith that:
1. Your body is not irreparably damaged from the freezing damage or damaged from time.
2. It will be possible for the information in your brain to be retrived.
3. It will be possible to revive your body, or head.
There is no guarantee that those three conditions can ever be possible, you are hoping for a miracle to happen when you sign up for cryonics.
-snip-
Man that girl is pretty and smart. Its a damn shame. Lets hope she makes it back. Has anyone lived back from being preserved?
are your family and friends literally the only thing on this earth you consider worth living for?
Yeah. What would be the point of living if all the people that cared about you are dead?

And when you get in your car every morning you have faith that it will not blow up. Everything is a fundamentally faith-based thing at its core; but you can use science, facts and logic to maximize your confidence in some particular outcome for a situation. Science, facts and logic; and manufacturing regulations, make us pretty certain we won't get blown to bits by an exploding gas tank. Similarly you can use science to determine how likely it is to revive a person, what protocols should be used, et cetera.

The problem with your analogy is that the process of a car is well understood.
Cryonics is not understood at all, it is all assumptions and wishful thinking.

The information is not lost if the cells don't decay.
Also, asking for a miracle is not the same as having hope in the development of medicine technology.
