6 HIV sufferers die after their pastor told them to stop taking their medication, because god would

Either it's all bollocks about God healing people or God just didn't see them alive in his "Master plan". I know what my money is on.
while this is a pretty dumb move, im sure the vast majority of christians know that faith and prayer isnt a substitute for real medicine. after all, it is these kinds of strange pieces of news that make it onto front pages, and since they don't occur every day its likely that this will attract alot of attention due to it's sheer stupidity and rarity.
there's no real reason for anyone to say that "religion is stupid aheeh it does no good" when it is a person's personal preference as to whether or not they have faith in a deity, be it christian, muslim or whatever.
it also brings alot of faith, happiness and a sense of community to those who probably need it most (see evangelical communities in the east end of london and that, its actually turned around alot of convicted criminals)
don't be so unfair guys
This lady obviously knows jackshit about science and what diseases really are.
Wow, religion sure creates inteligent, informed and logical people doesn't it!
Religion doesn't create dumb people. Dumb people are created and then use religion to do dumb things.
I agree that this happens way too often, but when you look at what a small percentage they make up you could essentially say the same thing about any group. It's like saying if a man named Joe robbed a store one month and another Joe was on the news a month or two later for battery then it would be like saying all Joes commit crimes
It's nothing like that. Churches have a history of hundreds if not thousands of incidents dating back to at least the medieval ages, you can literally name hundreds of incidents that occurred in the name of Jesus Christ. The list includes the inquisition as well as mass rape by catholic priests and the acts of the church in OP.
When talking about two people called Joe committing a crime, there is no real relation between the incidents other than the first three letter name. The relation between ALL the incidents committed in the name of Jesus is much stronger: it's the very cause of the issue.
Fuck religion. What good does it bring? It only seeks to control through fear and creates ignorance.
Nothing, those fucking religious scumbags need to just stop living.
Oh wait, aside from the fact that religious people are far more charitable and generous than nonreligious people
EDIT: To those who disagree, I suggest you check out the Social Capital Community Benchmark Survey. 91% of religious people donate, as opposed to 66% of people who are nonreligious, and 67% of religious people volunteer, as opposed to 44% of people who are nonreligious.
Though if taken literally it can do a lot of damage, the overall message and idea to the people that aren't out of their minds really helps bring a lot of peace hope and solace to people
Even if you disregard the old testament book of law's punishments, the intended message of Christianity is that you should forgive them of their sins and hope to make them recognise they are sinning. What this means is that regardless of what you do about it, things like Homosexuality and not marrying the man who raped you is still sinning.
But whatever, people pick and choose from the new testament.

Also, why did you remove
Not Christian but I agree fully. Science and religion can easily coexist as long as religion is not taken word for word literally and everybody on each side gets off their high horse
That's the corruption of the church, buddy, not the corruption of religion. It is not religion's fault that some men are incompetent. Not to mention circumstances that caused instances such as the Crusades and Inquisition were primarily political in nature, and used religion to gain the support of the masses.

The problem with religion, and I refer to Evid3nc3's youtube channel on this one as an example, is that even the brightest people can believe the weirdest things.
That's the base of religion. If done correctly, any human can believe a lot of crazy shit. Even if it defies all logic. Religion is an exception of reality

Those bastards!
'We don’t ask people to stop taking medication.
Oh.
Those bastards!
Oh.
Because the pastors would never do such a thing as lie to protect their image would they?

It's not the corruption of churches. It's their interpretation of the bible. Did you think Philip II (leader of spain during inquisition) for example, was corrupted? No, he believed in it, fully, that the protestants are to be killed and that this was an order from god himself. He started the inquisition along with his general Alva.
"Corrupted churches" is merely an excuse to draw the attention away from the source, which is religion itself.

Apart from catholics mostly being complete and utter bastards, sin throughout the week, confess on a sunday, rinse and repeat.

God knows that death is the best medicine!

Only in the example you're stating it's not exaggeration. It is what the legal industry calls "slander" and it is in fact, illegal.

Most sects of christianity tend to be pretty fucking political
How many go "well, we don't get involved in politics and won't try to enforce this view on all"?

Catholics are the most numerous sect of Christianity.
You're thinking of the irish there

Ignoring the fact that he didn't start the Inquisition (that was Ferdinand and Isabella), Phillip II inherited (part of) one of the largest empires in history from his father in needed to maintain unity. In those days, religious unity meant political stability and so it is easy to see why he would support an inquisition.

Everyone and everything tends to be "pretty fucking political", are you making a point?
Only in the example you're stating it's not exaggeration. It is what the legal industry calls "slander" and it is in fact, illegal.
Doesn't mean they don't do it. To be clear though the news story isn't really exaggerating anything, FP is. They're still a bunch of retards for sure, but they never denounced medicine in that video or in the quotes that were cited. They believe that god would cure the root problem completely, which is dumb, but the "no more medicine" inference seems to be from the followers.
Ignoring the fact that he didn't start the Inquisition (that was Ferdinand and Isabella)
Sorry, my bad. Those people are still kings and queens though, just like Phillip. My point still stands.
No one would tell god will heal people if they stop medicine if they didn't believe it themselves. I don't see a self-gain in doing this, I don't think they're doing this to get money from the people that are trying to get rid of HIV. They think they're saving those people. The biblical god is omnipotent, and has a history of healing: in the bible through Jesus. For them it's obvious that he can still do it.
Corruption of church is not a part of this story, neither was it for the inquisition. It's the belief that god commands it or that god will fix it.
Even though this sucks, religion is doing a good job eliminating the illogical race of humans.
back to stone age we go

In a couple ofyears we'll see if the church regains complete power over the American government
Actually there are a few sects that don't believe that they should engage substantially with the kingdom of men, so no, not "Everyone and everything" must be political.
As a Christian I just like to believe that God gave us science to explain everything.
Its not that hard
Yes he gave us the same thing that disproves him, ok.
Yes he gave us the same thing that disproves him, ok.
That part of science is of course invalid :v:
That hope and safety is just placebo though. Which means they're being lied too, which is a big problem.
Well you never really can't be 100% sure about what happens after you die. So some people just think that it's heaven and leaves the thing be. When someone close you dies it's easier to get over with and I don't see that as a big problem.
Sure people who just relies on god are a problem if you meant that.
In a couple ofyears we'll see if the church regains complete power over the American government
We know what needs to be done if that ever happens.

I'm tired of hearing that.
