Who cares about free speech right?
In Canada we have free speech. However you can't say stupid fucking shit that's the sole reason is too aggravate people. I think it's a good law.
Yeah except, you know, the whole fact that the wbc is legally defined as a hate group?
No it's not. The government doesn't define things as "hate groups." Way to pull that out of your ass.
No it's not. The government doesn't define things as "hate groups." Way to pull that out of your ass.
I never said it was defined by the government, it is defined by the SPLC.

I think it's a good law.
In Canada (and many other countries which claim to have free speech) you have the right to say things which are sanctioned by the government. [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] You said it's "legally defined."
Well it's not like the cops shut them down, the cops were actually protecting them and their right to free speech. I mean I get what you're saying and fundamentally I agree but seriously do you not expect people to react to it sometimes? They choose the most emotionally charged places to go and poke the dragon, some time they are gonna have some retaliation.
Please, let someone close to you die and i want you to be 100% okay with these people coming to say, your mother's funeral, saying it was gods will that she was killed because fags or something.
I don't see any reason they shouldn't be allowed to as long as they're kept far enough away that they don't disturb the funeral. They're voicing stupid opinions. We should keep them away from people who are clearly emotionally vulnerable (i.e. families of people whose funerals they picket etc.) but apart from that I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to voice their stupid opinions. They are just words.
Who cares about free speech right?
What's this? A thread remotely related to Christianity? Here comes Explosions, ready to start an argument.
They are just words.
They still mean a lot, saying "they are just words" is one of the dumbest excuses I've ever heard, it's how we communicate and it's important.
You said it's "legally defined."
Yes, because the SPLC is for legal representation, I'm sorry if I used the wrong term.
The fact that people are actually defending a hate group in this thread fucking boggles my mind
They still mean a lot, saying "they are just words" is one of the dumbest excuses I've ever heard, it's how we communicate and it's important.
So? Ignore them. Unless they're legitimately being a noise nuisance, I seriously don't get what I'm missing here. Care to enlighten me?
No it's not. The government doesn't define things as "hate groups." Way to pull that out of your ass.
Here, let me practice my free speech. I think you should get the fuck out of my thread.
explosions, just because they have the right to free speech, that doesn't mean they should abuse it. WBC are a group of assholes that use the system in their favor cause they can sue the pants off people that lift a finger against them. I'm pretty sure our founding fathers would want to kick their asses too
So? Ignore them. Unless they're legitimately being a noise nuisance, I seriously don't get what I'm missing here. Care to enlighten me?
Except they don't stand there in silence with their signs like you seem to imagine, they're shouting and yelling offensive shit at the people it's about.
In Canada (and many other countries which claim to have free speech) you have the right to say things which are sanctioned by the government. [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] You said it's "legally defined."
you need to stop
Who cares about free speech right?
Not me. Unlimited free speech is a superstitious unnatural construct.
Who cares about free speech right?
I'm all for free speech and I respect WBC's right to exercise it, but they also deserve to get their asses kicked once in a while for being obnoxious cunts.
Yeah except, you know, the whole fact that the wbc is legally defined as a hate group?
They're not, as the FBI doesn't keep an open list of hate groups, and the only groups on that list, according to the FBI, are groups threatening force/violence against people, not just random hateful people who picket. There are NGOs (like the ADL and SPLC) that define the WBC as a hate group, but that doesn't really mean much.
Except they don't stand there in silence with their signs like you seem to imagine,
Uh
Unless they're legitimately being a noise nuisance,
I don't see how you got that I think that from my post? Like I said previously, keep them well away from e.g. funerals which are a private service full of emotionally vulnerable people. But otherwise they're just stupid opinions. Ignore them.
So? Ignore them. Unless they're legitimately being a noise nuisance, I seriously don't get what I'm missing here. Care to enlighten me?
Ever heard of emotional harm? Verbal abuse? Psychological trauma?
Well it's not like the cops shut them down, the cops were actually protecting them and their right to free speech. They choose the most emotionally charged places to go and poke the dragon, some time they are gonna have some retaliation.
I expect people to act rationally and not like animals. You know, this is the exact same thing as the thread with the marine who got angry at the guy with the upside down flag. Except here, we have more people who judge the type of protest as "outrageous" so then it becomes OK to silence it with violence and intimidation. In the flag thread, there were a lot less people defending the marines. The only people who did so were military members themselves. You can see how peoples' culture can really dictate how much they value certain rights. In Uganda, for instance, the WBC's protesting wouldn't be very controversial at all. On a military base, flying an upside down flag would be just as outrageous as the WBC. If you value free speech at all, you can't be selective and hypocritical about it.
I think its fair to say i would shoot any member of WBC that come to my town to protest, regardless of punishment from the authorities
Uh I don't see how you got that I think that from my post? Like I said previously, keep them well away from e.g. funerals which are a private service full of emotionally vulnerable people. But otherwise they're just stupid opinions. Ignore them.
Are you incapable of reading or something They are being LOUD and YELLING. They have every right to be across the street from the church, but police can't push them further than that. THEY ARE TELLING PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONS, SEXUALITY, AND PEOPLE WHOM HAVE DIED INNOCENTLY THAT THEY WILL DIE IN A FIRE BY DEFINITION, THEY ARE EXERCISING HATE SPEECH It's NOT a difficult concept, did all of you fail primary school or something, jesus fucking christ.
Free speech =/= Hate speech. There is a reason why these guys are banned from entering Canada.
Thank god. That means Toronto is safe for another day. :v:
Uh I don't see how you got that I think that from my post? Like I said previously, keep them well away from e.g. funerals which are a private service full of emotionally vulnerable people. But otherwise they're just stupid opinions. Ignore them.
It's easy to say "ignore them", when you aren't in an emotional state such as them or aren't experiencing what they are. You can't just "ignore them" and ignoring is another one of the dumbest excuses I've ever heard.
I think its fair to say i would shoot any member of WBC that come to my town to protest, regardless of punishment from the authorities
That would be carrying it too far regardless, and I honestly doubt you'd even go through with it, simple as that.
Oh, I apologize then, I had remembered reading that the SPLC worked with the FBI, but I haven't researched into it for a year or so, I must have just misremembered.
The fact that people are actually defending a hate group in this thread fucking boggles my mind
All because people have no idea what the First Amendment means. Yes we have a right to protest. The people America are not saying that the WBC couldn't picket things saying people deserved it. The people of America were saying that they probably shouldn't. Just like how I wouldn't cry out how much I love to have sex with corpses and how it should be legal to marry a corpse. Freedom of Speech, does not mean TOTAL freedom of speech.
I think its fair to say i would shoot any member of WBC that come to my town to protest, regardless of punishment from the authorities
Assuming you're not exaggerating... You need some serious help.
No they're not. You can't threaten violence and attempt to storm a picket line just because you're offended. If that was the case, then would you be OK with me and my pals storming the next Tea Party rally?
So, I really dislike the WBC, and completely disagree with their "strategies", but you are right. The only thing in the video that was wrong was the people walking over to the other side to potentially start something. Though, they left on their own accord without anything actually happening. So, good for this town.
