To make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
Aren't those people supporters of the communist-party that opposes Putin?
I love it when people wear those masks to protests;.
I can see the Daily Mail headlines now.. ANONYMOUS BEHIND RUSSIA ANTI-PUTIN PROTESTS.
By the way, were ANY of the presidency candidates any good?
Aren't those people supporters of the communist-party that opposes Putin?
There are multiple communist parties there with a presence, not just the CPRF. But yes there are reds there, usually is in Russia.
All that anger is because he didn't get elected sooner.
To make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
Riots always go out of hand. There can be no revolution if the riot is oppressed.
Also in the modern times you are actually not allowed to riot. It is not a right to revolt your government any more. What was the last time a first world country had a revolt?
:ussr:
I hope that will not start a damn revolution.
Why would a protest being closed down by riot police start a revolution... the worst thing it could lead to is a riot.
Argue with me all you want but the guy fawkes mask are starting to slip away from the anonymous symbol to a freedom symbol so when I see them in protest I always think they're wanting freedom.
It's a movie prop from V for Vendetta, taking it as a serious symbol of freedom is just as silly as thinking the bat-symbol is one. He never sleeps. He protects the night. His parents are dead. He's batman!
Guy Fawkes masks start giving me a headache, this super-smug visage just makes me want to malform it with my fists of irritated anger!
Why? I know Putin is hoarding the power in Russia, but is there any better choice over him?
Yeah, because the right president is all that matters, right? I mean, freedom of speech, elections, democracy... human right - buh, who needs all this stuff? At least we have the president. What a nightmare would've been without him. Yes, a lot of our rights are shat upon; any policeman can just jump into the supermarket and just start shooting - and system will try to defend him; start digging into the mess under Putin's friends' asses - prepare to be buried; a lot of city-forming plants and enterprises are being closed just because someone wanted to take some money from-under them (so more than 2000 settlements got abandoned and died off in past 7 years, more slided into alcoholism); we have to kindly ask our government to slightly publicly disagree with them; political prisoners... but thank god we have our president! Where would we be without Putin.
Is it just me, or is the caption for each picture almost exactly the same as the previous?
Why? I know Putin is hoarding the power in Russia, but is there any better choice over him?
Sergey Mironov (Fair Russia) or Mikhail Prokhorov (Independent) would have been undoubtedly better. Gennady Zyuganov and his 'Communists' would have been just as authoritarian and the Liberal Democrats are Far-Right lunatics.

Are you like.. fucking stupid?? You know, there's this thing called "treason" and in the olden times, it's death penalty for you committing that said crime.
Since when it is legal to start trashing public and private property because you're frustrated on your current siatuation?

I think you're confusing protesting with rioting.
There has never been such a thing as a right to riot.

I asked a question, way to be an asshole.

Megafan, you're the best.

It's all a matter of information. Putin himself has become sort of an internet meme and a lot of people don't even know who the other candidates are or were.

Yeah, all I've been hearing about is Putin and loads of stupid pictures with "funny" descriptions and all. I don't think I've seen any talk at all about other "normal" candidates beside Putin. I think I read about a crazy racist communist candidate and that's all.
Some things I'm wondering about is whether it is Putin the people are against, or the party United Russia.

Riot police is there to fight civilians instead of having to send in the army to gun them down.

Pretty sure that's the sole reason the international community thinks the elections were unfair. It wasn't a fair fight.

More than likely it's a combination of both, as United Russia is viewed by the public mainly as a party of power, or the 'administration party'. As for the CPRF, they are the descendants of Soviet Communists. That is to say, they are not Marxist-Leninists, they are not genuine Communists.
Why can't that nation adopt a 4 years two term maximum for all leaders? I mean they should have a maximum 8 year term for a president. 5 years is a bit too long for a single term
Why do they still have Soviet symbols on their ushankas?
Why do they still have Soviet symbols on their ushankas?
I'm pretty sure it's just a red star and the modern Russian military still uses the red star fairly commonly. It's on all their aircraft for example. And using old Soviet ushankas is probably cheaper than making a bunch of new ones with imperial eagles on them.

7 years works just fine here in Ireland

do photojournalists in russia know what white balance is

That's the same thing, Putin and United Russia. He was UR's chairman while being prime-minister. Now Medvedev stepped on this shift. All our governors, mayors, city-managers (un-elected mayors) - every member of government is a UR member.
do photojournalists in russia know what white balance is
Most of these pictures were thrown out in the Internet as fast as journalists could. When OMON goes in to disband the protest, journalists are very likely to be beaten up and taken to the police station. So I doubt they had the time. You can believe me, I was there at Triumphal sqare 2 years ago, and all I did as a photojournalist - run around dodging OMON units while taking pictures. That's why they're that shitty.
