Wouldn't banning blasphemy be akin to giving in to terrorism? If they want to do that then they may aswell ban not being muslim and introduce sharia law just to speed the process up.

In my old school in sweden we can't sing our national anthem or have the swedish flag up when school ends at summer because muslims says they feel "left out" or something.
To make an analogy, making sure that no one insults religions is curing the symptoms. People getting pissed over a video on Youtube or anything else and hurting other people is not fucking acceptable, even if they talked shit about you.

I don't understand how being proud of your country is insulting to others. A lot of countries have fucked up history, but progressing to the point where your country is pretty good would be something to celebrate, even if someone can't celebrate you countries pride with you.

The muslims? Most of them are born in sweden iirc but they feel they are irakis or whatever country they're from and considers it actually racist if we have the swedish flag up. Because Canada was technically a Dominion? Before the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth games used to be called the Empire games. Commonwealth and Empire are two different entities so if Australia was invaded and have its name changed to Kangarooland, then Australia Day would definitely change into something else, probably "Kangarooland Day".
Changing it to Citizen Day is just too boring and generic.

That's not really an apt analogy though. That would be more like the USA changing "Independence Day" to "America Day", which amounts to pretty much the same thing.
I find it note-worthy how a video making fun of islam caused such a riot and blood-shed when that image of jesus, Buddah and those other 2 gods from whatever the religion was didn't cause as much as a short-lived media attention then died out.
If all religions reacted the same way as muslims when their own religion is rediculed we would all be dead by now, literally.

And are those immigrants not australians once they get a citizenship? Australia day is a much stronger symbol to everyone than citizen day.
For the record - the majority of western nations are secular nations by degree of their constitutions (last non secular nation in Europe was sweden I think which officialy became fully secularised in 2000 or so) and as such ban themselves from going into religious matters, which include blaspheme of a religion.
That doesn't preven them to step in to protect members of a religion from discrimination and other negative impacts hitting a group though.
