i'm bored now, nothing carry on about how awful portal 2 is
Kind of off-topic, but I enjoyed TF2 way more when it just came out. You had your classes, each with their own weapons and abilities. After about an hour or two, you know everything you need to know about the game. And this simplicity is, well actually was, in my opinion, one of the best things about the game. But then came the class updates and the hats, and the crafting shit. I guess VALVe is trying to keep the game interesting but adding more and more shit to the game and slowly turning it into some pseudo-RPG is really ruining the game. For me at least. I've stopped playing TF2 because of all that. The game feels cluttered. It kind of lost its magic.
But with Portal 2, you actually need to grab your wallet to get to the extra stuff. Which is, in my opinion, better than just randomly adding free stuff to the game. Because there will always be people like me who don't like changes. With the store you can keep the game simple and clean just like the way it was or you can be a real fanboy and buy everything there is to buy. I'm not really defending VALVe here, I never really liked Portal anyway, but I think they did a good thing with the store. But, the fact that it's Day 1 DLC makes me kind of sad. It's almost as if VALVe is desperate and needs more money, which I highly doubt. They could have at least waited a few months before launching the store.

Well, can't the same thing can be achieved but without the 'grabbing your wallet' part?

Thank god - your 'I'm right, therefore you're wrong' arguments aren't really interesting.

There is no extra stuff. Only hats, which you see on other people whether you have bought them or not.
I'm assuming this is just /v/ being children as usual.
How the fuck did you bastards complete it in four hours? Even if I didn't get stuck on any of the puzzles, I still probably couldn't have gone through it in four hours.
To everyone complaining about the length, Gabe had said many times before the game was released that the singleplayer was roughly 3x longer than Portal 1. Portal 1 took around 2 hours to complete, so Portal 2 taking 6 hours to complete seems reasonable.
People complaining about the cosmetic stuff make me laugh. Same goes for the people who complain about the TF2 Mann Co. store.

Probably a raid from /v/ or something similar, even if the game had all the problems they claim it does, 5.1 average would be better reserved for terrible games.
4 hours? I must be really slow then. Completing both single player and multiplayer took 11 hours for me.
Kind of ass-holish of Valve to lie about the Single Player gameplay hours :colbert:
Didn't they say it would be over 9 hours? And then people finish it under 5 hours. And then as an asshole bonus, they give 1 day DLC.
This is so not like you Valve.

*Gasp* Its 4 hours short! Its the end of the world!
Even if it IS only 4 hours, this is a Valve game. Just wait until people make new maps and Valve turns them into official maps.

I finished COOP in 5 hours, add a single player with 4-7 hours and you get close to what you say. Also I remember Valve only mentioned that it would be x times longer than Portal 1 and not the actual hours.

stop sucking valves cock
4 hour is a lot
*Gasp* Its 4 hours short! Its the end of the world!
That's almost the entire game length they stated, halved.
44.4% less is quite substantial if you assume the game is even 5 hours long.

Yea fuck Valve! Putting their time and effort to make a nice game only to get bashed by people who cant enjoy the fucking game!

Good heavens, people have opinions on products they purchased.
What selfish assholes.

Yes. But the opinions are retarded.
"Hats? Fuck this game. I dont even wanna touch SP!"
"4 Hours Short? Wasted money 0/10."
Those are "real" good opinions right there.

So how does it feel to lose all your credibility in less than 7 words?
To complain that a game is bad because it's five hours is really dumb. If it's five hours of original ideas, good gameplay and story and isn't repetitive isn't that better than either padding it or scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas to make it longer?
The complaints should be for better games, not longer ones. Anyone can churn out crap like WoW that takes hundreds of hours of grinding to complete but why is there a correlation between how much a game should cost and how long it is?

I love you.
its /v/ that raided it afaik i checked /v/ for something bout portal 2 when i was on my bad laptop that cant even play minecraft
also its short as fuck when any other dev sells a 5 hour game for 50 dollars ur all threatening to firebomb their houses but when valve does it youll miracle up some excuse to make it ok
technically they gave us 2 5 hour campaigns so i think the price is worth it
i also love how people bitch over cosmetic items
Come back to me when they charge for Maps, not god damn hats that don't do a fucking thing.
People are throwing their copy of Portal 2 out the window for the sole reason the Co-op mode has a store and items that let you customize your individual character.
I see no reason why you can't just ignore that part and enjoy this exceedingly well-made sequel to Portal.
"But those hats should have been in the game in the first place, not in a store or some DLC!!"
Well that's for the developers and marketers of the game to decide, they owe you nothing.
Hell with TF2 they don't charge for Maps like CoD's $15 firststrikebullshit.
If you don't like hats, don't god damn buy them.

There's totally a correlation between cost and playtime because it's content and entertainment verses money. Why should the latest Call of Duty cost $60 for a four hour campaign when Mass Effect 2 costs the same and provides 25 or 30 hours of campaign entertainment? If a game is going to entertain me for less time, than it should cost less than games that entertain me for longer. Valve is selling out and releasing short games at full price while hitting you up for micro-transactions and DLC on top of that.
The original Portal wasn't days long either, but it was released with the Orange Box, and available separately for something like $20. Why is it that Valve now feels they can deliver the same or less entertainment value, but for three times the price plus DLC?

But there is no DLC...
Well, I was gonna get Portal 2 for the story campaign, but if it's just like 4-10h long I guess I'll just watch some walkthrough (since I won't be able to avoid spoilers for a long time and wait for the price to drop anyway).
I don't get enraged about it or anything, but I'm not fond of the principle behind using the item store for content that was already done when the game was out. I can understand charging for content that the team generates after the release since extra working time = extra money, but this... oh well.
I don't have a massive game library, but I love every single one of them because even if I've played it a gazillion times and know every corner, I'll still experience the love and dedication behind it and all that bullshit. That's my personal benchmark for a great game that's really worth my money.
The principle of the store and the apparent length of the single player don't make me too happy, but of course I'll wait for a longer time till I make any solid opinion about Portal 2 based on others' opinions. But for now, the first impression isn't a great one and I feel like Portal 2 won't live up to its hype in the long run - and this time Valve actually contributed a lot to the hype themselves.
So.
I wasn't all *that* keen on Portal 2 anyway, although Portal 1 was pretty enjoyable, so this whole discussion doesn't affect me to a degree that great anyway, but it's interesting to see how much hate is emerging here, be it because people don't like parts of the game or because of people not liking people not liking the game.
I don't see what's wrong about being passionate about things either, but apparently something is only serious business on Facepunch if it has breasts. I don't get it, there are so many things people can dedicate their lives to, there are so many things you can focus on that can give you a different perspective and let you enjoy your life your way, yet apparently the way to go is to be average at everything and not being serious about anything.
If people really love the Portal games and feel like the developers didn't make it up to their expectations, what's so horrible with stating one's opinion about that (in the appropriate way)? Some call a game good because of the "raw fun value" they get during their first playthrough, and that's totally fine by me. But there are different benchmarks for different people. Some judge a game by its graphics, by how good it holds up in the long run or by comparing it with similar titles, some can't enjoy a game if the characters are badly written, some enjoy a game if there are little easter eggs and surprises around every corner, some people only truly enjoy a game if they can tinker with the code afterwards - there is so much variety, so many ways a game can be enjoyed, why is the amount of people realizing this so little? It's just so disappointing.
/complaint about the complaints of complaints

Cave Johnson, we're done here.
I can complete Portal 1 in 30 mins and yet I still think it's amazing. Portal 2 actually took me 6 hours, so people calling it short must have some sort of disability.
4 HOURS?
Fuck me, no. No.
I started playing at around 16:30 and finished at 23:30.
