How is some of the stuff valve did for Portal 2 any different from collector editions of games that include posters and models, which, after you lose interested in the game just collect dust. Portal 2 alone by the type of game it is, is going to be short. A puzzle game cannot rely on enemies or an open world factor to extend the game length. In a shooter many elements are repeated over, and over..... A puzzle game that does this without any variety (not portal 2) gets very boring. So to extend game length you have to make more maps that take much longer than a shooter where you add a handful of more enemies, or an RPG's quests (kill/collect x more things)... I think that Portal two is a very polished puzzle game..... There in lies where some people will not like it. Plus the single player takes 4-8 hours to beat. What about replay time or doing speed runs on coop.
itt we repeat ourselves for 14 pages and lots of bad analogies
Instead of introducing a store so people can buy cosmetic items, maybe Valve should actually expand the value of Portal 2 by offering new test chambers and challenges for a price, say $2.49US or so per chamber. Valve already broke the promise of not offering customers paid DLC (technically when you purchase something from either the Portal 2 or Team Fortress 2 store, the store uploads code to Steam Cloud saying that you purchased that, which is downloaded to your client so you can use that item), so I can't see why they can't fund future development by introducing new levels that actually add value, rather than cosmetic items that make you look like a impetuous twat. I can certainly say I'd much rather buy a 30 minute expansion rather than a cosmetic hat which probably took 20 minutes to model and another 20 minutes to make the texture and implement that object, and both being the same price.
The campaign took me 6 or 7 hours in my first playthrough, but I continued playing it all day because I enjoyed it so much. Not to mention I have a hunch the game will be unbeatable for user content. And I've hardly touched co-op (but what I have seen is really fun). I'm not really sure what everyone was expecting from the game. For me, it offered everything I was hoping for, just a lot better than that in pretty much every way.
I've bad mouthed Valve for ages about how they ruined Team Fortress, how they crapped out L4D2 and for how Half-Life 2 is horrendously over-rated.
your opinion is fucking stupid, jftr.
They don't even really advertise the fact that there's items. I had to point out to some of my friends that there were items before they noticed.
I didn't even notice that you were able to click that "Robot Enrichment" button down there.
I don't think anybody will decide not to buy or play Portal 2 because of hats. Fuck, it's not even the addition of hats. It's the addition of microtransactions. Valve is selling out, and they can do that, because all of you are so far up their ass that you can't see anything wrong that they do.
Explain what's so wrong with that? Why does it affect you so deep that we, the people with our heads stuck up Valves ass can't see or feel.
Comparing games of this quality to some of the annual tripe EA puts out just because there's the ability to buy some hats is ridiculous.
what quality? its short as fuck and just a ploy to get people to pay for extra items this plus tf2, and episode 3 is showing how valve as a corporation has gone down the shitter
itt we repeat ourselves for 14 pages and lots of bad analogies
It's like if two people were arguing over something trivial and both sides were using arguments that only changed in the wording. And then someone comes in and complains about the analogies being used.
how many hours of gameplay is it then? 4, 6, 10? thats worth 20 bucks not 50
if you want the most hours for your money then go play fucking runescape or maplestory
i read the op apparently valve is pushing around their hats like in tf2, they are no better than ea
You should read the entire thread because you still do not get it.
what quality? its short as fuck and just a ploy to get people to pay for extra items this plus tf2, and episode 3 is showing how valve as a corporation has gone down the shitter
The length is all dependent on skill and the amount of exploration done. Not many people are actually going to buy the items, in fact, there's barely any advertising for them. If Valve REALLY wanted to sell them, they'd put in an ad like they do on TF2. But they have not.
The funny part is, the people defending the store would bitch about the addition of levels for money.
Yeah and you'd probably whine for a couple of years.
if you want the most hours for your money then go play fucking runescape or maplestory
i dont want a half assed game for full price with the added fuck you of dlc peddling on the side
Explain what's so wrong with that? Why does it affect you so deep that we, the people with our heads stuck up Valves ass can't see or feel.
Because they're selling out and nobody cares!
You should read the entire thread because you still do not get it.
i do get it, valve sold out
The funny part is, the people defending the store would bitch about the addition of levels for money.
levels aren't cosmetic
The funny part is, the people defending the store would bitch about the addition of levels for money.
I would, because levels increase playability. Items do not. Therefore I do not care.
The funny part is, the people defending the store would bitch about the addition of levels for money.
i'm actually reading all your posts in the voice of a down syndrome because of your avatar, its really funny also i still wouldn't care, i like dlc
Yeah and you'd probably whine for a couple of years.
Not really. Levels aren't useless cosmetic items. I would still feel that putting a price on them would be pretty pointless though.
i dont want a half assed game for full price with the added fuck you of dlc peddling on the side
it's clearly not a half assed game. length=/=quality
valve sold out theyre game is shit thanks to hats
i'm actually reading all your posts in the voice of a down syndrome because of your avatar, its really funny also i still wouldn't care, i like dlc
Okay?
The idea behind this bashing is that this buyable content should have been part of what you paid for from the very beginning. I read an article not too long ago that quoted Gabe about the whole TF2 hat store, and how every item that you can buy can also be earned through gameplay. This totally makes the TF2 store okay in my book. However, I haven't heard anything of the sort in regards to Portal 2. Until that gets cleared up, I'm going to stay neutral on the subject. I do know one thing, though; there's absolutely nothing wrong with this criticism. If you give a game company an inch, they'll take a mile. Sure, the whole thing is small and unimportant, but I'm thankful for the hardasses out there who are willing to pursue a debate about what Valve is doing.
They don't even really advertise the fact that there's items. I had to point out to some of my friends that there were items before they noticed.
Shit if they would advertise that, their sales would plummel.
I hope they stop all future productions and fix this shit. Seriously valve, we LOVED you, and you do this?!
it's clearly not a half assed game. length=/=quality
what replay value does it have? its a fucking puzzle game it has almost none for puzzle games quality = length
Because they're selling out and nobody cares!
"I liekd Valve bfore thYE were cool."
I hope they stop all future productions and fix this shit. Seriously valve, we LOVED you, and you do this?!
hey guys quick quick STOP working on dota two how come mr newell we have to get rid of the hats, don't you see?!
