Sorry for what's coming up, but I need to get this out of my system.
Some people who know me in real life will know that I am quite fond of PC gaming. Having grown up on them, I have developed a not entirely unpredictable preference to them. But apparently, said fondness has noticeably gone down, something I've noticed myself as well. In conversations, I find myself reluctant or even embarrassed to say I'm a PC gamer. I've had someone ask me 'what happened, you don't like PC gaming that much anymore'. My response amounted to 'well, with shit like this...'
If console gamers are all drooling inbred retards, then PC gamers are all whiny entitled cunts. Let me give some examples.
You might say 'Holy jesus Whoopsalot, close the whine valve already'. I say fuck you, I've had enough. I'm sick and tired of PC gamers that say their platform is the best without joking. I'm sick and tired of the disgusting condescending attitudes so many PC gamers have to consoles and the people who play them. I'm sick and tired of that group of people who, if they had their way, would have game series stagnate because they seem to be like the Japanese and can't bear changes to their precious game series. But most of all, I'm sick and tired of a pathetic excuse for a community that claims to be so mature but is so quick to remind me of a fucking kindergarten, having some of the saddest, whiniest and juvenile pricks I've ever seen.
Keep going guys, bitch and whine the way you're doing now! Continue demanding that developers conform to your sometimes ridiculous standards. But don't complain to us when developers leave the PC en masse in favor of an audience that's easier to please. You can complain to yourselves for a change.
What does that have to do with anything? If the way people act can ruin the fun you can have with a certain game, then there is something wrong with you as well.
So what if a lot pf PC gamers are, as you say, "whiny entitled cunts"? Let them do what they do best (nothing) and enjoy your games.
This is why I never listen to what people say about how good or bad a game is and experience it myself. If I like it, I like it. If I don't, I don't. It's as simple as that and no amount of bitching and whining by anyone can change that.
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you one hundred percent. They're annoying, but it shouldn't change what you think.
The campaign was damn long, it took 7 hours on the first go, not 4. Also, it's a fucking puzzle game.
The in-game store are just optional goodies that make casual (console) gamers feel special, it doesn't affect gameplay.
They forgot to change the word "console". WOW, who the fuck cares? It wouldn't have been any different if it was modified for PC.
I'll agree the ARG was a bit annoying, but, we did get our game 12 hours earlier.
Stop being little bitches.
If they don't like it, then can stop playing.
The store doesn't bother me. Why the fuck should it? I have self control. I don't want items, so I won't buy them. Who cares if someone else does?
The game's campaign took me a good 10-15 hours to complete, spread out over 3 days. Co-op is also a big chunk of the game.
I'm glad I fucking paid $50 for it. This is a quality goddamn game. These people are just ingrateful little shits.
They make some interesting points, it's not just a bunch of mindless idiotic complai-
"Ridiculous DLC on day 1!" stated another. "And both endings have been spoilt virally by Valve. And while the console versions were leaked 2 weeks early, the PC version was still subject to the gimmicky grab for cash to allow for a faster unlock via steam. Is this going to be the future of PC gaming? No wonder that PC gaming is dying."
Bye.
I don't see the problem, what exactly people whining about now?
Isn't this discussion over by now, or are there still problems? Can I hear these problems so I can tell you how they aren't problems?
So I bought Portal 2 for $44 for, in my eyes, around 12 hours of content(that is, I played SP over the span of 3 school days), which easily is one of the most cinematic and engrossing games I've played this last year. Give me a break. I've played most of Co-op, and it's about the same here. I got to see Aperture again, I got to experience new things that haven't been done before, and I've been challenged more than anything else on the market.
After my five minutes of searching, Black Ops is around 6 hours single player, and it's $60. If we go by the Zero Punctuation rules that a game should be able to stand on single player alone, do you pick Portal 2 for $50 or Black Ops?
Well you know that buying dlc will only ecourage them to make more dlc that costs money. This is why consoles get away with it. Really sure valve is a good company but the fact that pc gamers wont stand for many things is the reason we get so many benefits.
Ok, stop whining about the cosmetic DLC you don't need and listen to this:
If Valve ever comes out with gameplay changing DLC that you can only get through buying it, then you can whine and I will whine along with you. Until then, I think we should shut up about it.
Why is everyone calling cosmetic attachments, some of which are given out in achievements, DLC? Think of it like this: If you bought the PS3 version for $60 at GameStop, you got an extra skin. If you buy for PC, you either save $10-15 or you can buy 2 skins or a hat.

Or even better, you can not buy it and enjoy the gameplay of the game instead.
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Not buy the hats that is.
Or even better, you can not buy it and enjoy the gameplay of the game instead.
That's what I'm saying. I don't get why everyone is worked up over it, they're just models. Would you rather they just delete them and say fuck all, not useful anymore?
Yes but again this is the first time valve has really made you pay for any add on to a game. This could pave way for other money costing dlc instead of it being free like always and because they are spending developer time making things like this which could be used making other games. Also whenever I buy a valve game I came to expect all there dlc to be free so thats a big reason why people buy there games. Its not like the dlc ruined the game or anything but its a small complaint which gives me fear of valves future.
could you be anymore stupid?
I'm not reading through the 24 other pages here, but I'll assume it's over some shitstorm over how there are items in Portal 2.
Hats, gestures, flags, skins: How in anyway does this affect the gameplay of Portal 2 co-op? That's right little Timmy, it doesn't at all.
There is such a thing as being paranoid, you know.
Besides, cosmetic items, no actual use. If you don't care, don't buy them. If you do like them, you buy it, you support Valve.
I hated the whole hats thing up until yesterday when I was posting how dumb TF2 hats were when I happened to look down and realize I was wearing a band shirt
I could have just worn a plain one but I went out of my way to get that shirt because I liked how it looked and I liked who buying it supported
I thought and thought and realized I was a bloody hypocrite and cancelled the post

Well at least you admitted you have a problem, that's the first step to redemption.

Let me just state right away that this does not affect the fun I have with games in any way. I mean people shat all over DA2 like there was no tomorrow and I was all over that shit like a kid in a candy store because I simply didn't give 2 shits. It's just that I've noticed this trend of PC gamers getting whinier by the major release and while this is relatively few people doing this, it reflects upon the community as a whole. And at this rate, that's not exactly a community I wanna be a part of.
What this has to do with anything is that this whole Portal 2 business is a shining example of a lot of what's wrong with PC gamers these days and why you could make a reasonable argument that PC gamers are digging their own graves. Spamming reviews like some immature whiny kid, complaining about the option to get one of the most trivial things to grace this gaming generation, going absolutely batshit about one word and a general attitude as if I just walked into Emocon aren't helping PC gamers or the developers.
Because frankly, if you think that all this incessant complaining and whining is going to make the developers listen to you, you're terribly naive. Yes, there are some who are still loyal to the PC but one day those guys get enough of putting up with a platform with such an unreliable userbase and they'll move on to an audience that is vastly easier to please.
Also, get rid of that avatar, it's hypnotizing.
4 hours? Bollocks. I bought the game yesterday and I'm only on Chapter 6. The game is brilliant and Glados and Wheatley are hilarious.
i want to make this real fucking clear
I hated DA2 because the writing was a step backwards for Bioware, and in an industry where good writing is a myth talked of only in legend, it pisses me off when people celebrate a company renowned for it's competent writing for making a piece of wire rack trash fantasy.
But that's besides the point, the point is, is that the complaints people have about DA2 have to do with the game. The complaints people have with Portal 2 is merely with the spirit of the game. Not with the gameplay, or the writing, or the pacing, or the humor, just with the idea that valve might one day go from hats to paid game content.
And no, Valve isn't going to leave the PC because people downrated them on Metacritic. Unlike many of you Valve isn't run by reactionary tweens with no rationality. They own PC gaming. Them leaving the PC would be like Microsoft leaving the OS market.
And yes, despite the fact that people are fucking stupid, they should be critical. If the developers want to have themselves a cry and pick up their toys and go home, that's their own affair. Meanwhile we can have a nice chat with the people who make good games and who aren't children. I wish more people were critical, if everyone was then maybe we wouldn't have shitstains like Bobby Kotick ruling the market.
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Hell, if every one of you motherfuckers out there were critical assholes we wouldn't have to deal with rehashed shit games at all. Maybe we could make a lot of good games instead of Tom Clancy's Ghost Warfare Future Combat Cell Nightfire 3.
Portal 2 is the best game I have ever played. It's not easy for me to say that. But I cannot think of any video game I have ever enjoyed more.
I was completely unaware the "store" thing existed until after I had completed the story, so it didn't sway my opinion at all. I don't see why it should, either. Even when I finished the game and noticed its presence, I thought nothing of it. I smirked at most. But it shouldn't affect one's opinion of the game overall. If someone wants to buy a ridiculous skin and a moustache for themselves, by all means let them. Neither myself or anyone I will ever play co op with is going to buy something, so it will not affect my experience in co op in the slightest. If someone purchases something from the store, hey, more money to Valve, they are to be commended for creating this masterpiece of a game.
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
And what's with everyone calling these skins and animations "DLC"?
How the hell is it DLC? DLC pretty clearly stands for Downloadable Content. I thought what was implied by that was that there was actually a process of purchasing an addon for the game, an external one not in the game's files. It is not Day One DLC. It's a small bunch of visual things for your character you can buy if you really want to. Day One DLC is when a game comes out and there's maps and weapons, things which actually affect the game, which you need to download and/or pay for. Ugh. As the essay on the previous page states, these ignorant whiners need to just grow up.

Actually, this strikes a chord with me. I tend to stay away from stuff that's created by awful people (argue if you want, but I'm sticking with that): I refuse to listen to Kanye West on the grounds that he's an asshole, one of the reasons I refuse to read Ctrl+Alt+Del (besides it sucking hard) is that Tim Buckley is an asshole. If some gamers act like assholes, then we can see how the developers react, and see who is an asshole and who isn't.
I struggle to replicate the thought process that convinces people that Valve are selling out and that portal 2 is a bad game
Like I find it impossible to do

Quite right Patroclus. You get a banana star.
vote with ur money people
Sorry bro, my money still goes to Valve. Loved the top-notch voice acting, new gameplay aspects, and plot twists(albeit maybe a little predictable)
I'm quite sure I can finish it in four hours if I try, now that I know all the puzzles.
When I first went into it though, I played for about six hours total, but it felt like way more because there's just so much stuff packed into the game that you get all at the same time, but it's created so that it's not confusing at the same time.
And I didn't even explore that much on my first playthrough.
Don't people understand that in return we will get actual playable DLC (just look at TF2), maps and stuff for free. As in a thing you can play and it will be free, because Valve think people should not pay for DLC, and the hats and stuff is not DLC it's just accessories, not important for gameplay, buy it if you want, no one is making you.
Yes again. The hats and emotes are not DLC's. Seeing you can find them in the game as they randomly drop (apparently) and unlocking achievements can also give you them.

Everybody who rated this post winner is a hypocrite.
Portal 2's Singleplayer was one the best 6 or 7 hours of my life
ARG was bad. Singleplayer campaign was short. Items are dumb...
The ARG was great. It was fun, and gave its active participants over 100$ worth of games.
The game wasn't short. There are two 6 hour long campaigns. And they're 6 hours long only if you rush like an idiot.
Nobody makes you buy the items.
Shit, the store could have only had one piece of DLC, a cosmetic one at that and people still would have shit themselves. "AAAARGH OPTIONAL, COSMETIC DLC?! VALVE IS A BUNCH OF GREEDY ASSHOLES!"
They sell store items for a co-op that only lasts 2 hours.
