Stop with the "hurr items do not change gameplay" or "durr nobody makes you buy them" crap. Buying something ingame is always stupid, and in P2's case it's also extremely out of place.

Don't buy them.

You should play co-op with a friend, not a random person.
If I ever play with a random person and he goes like that, I will instantly leave.

They're probably cut earlier than the ending. Funny because the end of the second act could have very well been the game's ending if it weren't for a detail. Who knows, maybe someone cut the stream short and played the credits trolling you.

it's like a diet soda in your cup
It's stupid because it's a way for snobby kids with rich parents to show off how much money their parents have. It's out of place because it's a game about cooperation and Portals, not hats and skins. It's not Counter Strike or Team Fortress

A robot wearing a crown from a game that has nothing to do with Portal's universe is out of place.

It matters to me because it sends a message to other developers. Valve is a very successful company, and the majority of the gaming community holds it in high regard.
Other developers might think along the lines of, "Valve sold items right away, let's do the same."
Instead of selling cosmetic items, they might sell maps or other things that impact gameplay.
While I disagree with people giving this game a 0, I think they're only doing that because they think any other score doesn't matter.

It's cute; also, that's one of the what like 6 TF2 items in P2. All of the others fit the style
Sorry but it does matter to me. I don't like bullshit childish gimmicks being added to games in which they have no place whatsoever without any prior notice.
Why does it matter to you that they are in the game if you never notice them in the game either way?
I just don't get that, please enlighten me.

I'm sure other developers also are capable of listening to the community.

And using their own brain you know.
Although I do think it's worth more than 5.1, I do hope this might serve as a lesson for Valve of what people think of their cosmetics and store bullshit they've been doing lately.
I used to like Valve for being the company that didn't fuck their customers over.

Thank you, this is a prime example of why "If you don't like it, don't use it" is probably one of the dumbest arguments ever invented.
The people who use that argument usually implies that it is the people who want it gone who are selfish, while they themselves are selfish enough to feel that their own experience in the game is more important than everyone else's.

If you dislike racists, does this mean that you won't ever have to meet a racist if you stop being racist yourself?
No, it means that although you aren't being racist, the world will still be filled with racists.

Nobody's saying they're not out of place. What I personally have been saying is, you shouldn't complain so long as the optional paid things don't affect gameplay. Not that things that are optional, or things that don't affect gameplay aren't out-of place.

I honestly don't think racists are comparable to hats in a game. Nice strawman though.
I'm not trying to say that anyone who want it gone is selfish, I just don't see why there's a problem that it's there, and you're not managing to convince me. I don't think my own experience is more important than everyone else's either.

Unofficial mods and skins are optional and things that if you don't like, you never have to see them.
However official items that everyone can use in the game, are not things that are optional.

It's a metaphor, I use only exaggerated examples to make it easier to understand.
Use the metaphor, try to understand what it means, and then understand why I'm using it.
Why would they do that when they could just ignore the community and get extra money? It seems to be working for Valve, after all.
And using their own brain you know.
Exactly. They'll use their brains and realize that more than enough people will buy their overpriced items, no matter how many other people complain.
But in this case, denial does make it as good as non-existent. I honestly don't see the problem.
First of all, the fact that this is completely optional is what this whole debate is about, and it's what you've been saying is a bad argument. It IS optional, you don't have to see it at all. If you are playing with someone who's using them, switch to someone else or play with a friend (which is what it's supposed to be used for).
Second of all, if it's a metaphor it's not an argument, and if you want it to be an argument, it's going to have to be a strawman argument.

Perhaps I don't have to see them if my friends don't use them, but either way it's horrifying knowing that Valve is continuing the TF2 trend with adding content you can only obtain from the store. Valve is setting a terrible example out to other game developers, that you can add DLC from the beginning that are basically just simple models the characters wear, and make lots of money from it. As if this wasn't enough, the models are unfitting the Portal universe and generally does not have much to do with the game.

Gee I didn't know the rules of the internet was so very important, I shall be sure to have this in mind the next time I foolishly mistake a strawman for a metaphor.

I partly agree that they shouldn't be in the game, and I don't think it's nice that Valve is doing it, but for me and hopefully to everyone else, they aren't changing the game experience at all, and aren't providing a reason for me to give the game a lower score.
And it's not rules of the Internet, it's rules of argumentation.

That's funny. I remember Black Ops being the most successful video game of all time, and yet it still had gameplay changing DLC. :downs:

If I recall, people in Africa traded gold for salt. Just because everyone agreed doesn't mean the gold traders weren't being ripped off.

They did, but then being a company who's job it is to make money, they can publish small aesthetic addons that you don't have to buy to enjoy the game, but somehow manage to make your pussy all tied up in knots for what reason?
