I think the store is a good thing if only that it shows a long term commitment to the game. I estimate that it would take about 20 hours to completely digest Portal 2 (achievements, commentary, easter eggs), and these items would only effect half of that. I don't see Valve going through all the effort making the store unless they knew people were going to spend considerable hours playing co-op.
I hope for more co-op campaigns.

If not, we can trust the modding community for that.

Are you acting like a baby again?
I know you wear diapers but I'm starting to think your fetish for them is just a cover up for paraphilic infantilism.
EDIT:
Let me put in my two cents.
Those bitching about the Copy-Cat TF2 Store in Portal 2: Get over it. You know what these cosmetic items do? Jack shit. This isn't Call of Duty in which I am REQUIRED to purchase something advertised as optional DLC in order to play the game without being kicked for lack of content. And that's the keyword for these items in Portal 2: OPTIONAL. They have no impact on the game what so ever, and as of now, the best cosmetic item in the game (the one in my avatar) can be received by just completing the single player. Hell, you get a companion cube flag just for doing the wave gesture in Co-Op. You people need to stop bashing this game and giving it terrible scores without playing it JUST for some minor part of it that doesn't impact the game as a whole.

Thank you for repeating what EVERYONE FUCKING ELSE SAID
Seriously, everyone stop stating the fucking obvious.
I fucking hate how Valve has become so cash grabbing, it's sad that they've gone from giving free updates for TF2, to the likes of Apple and ruining their fucking game.
But also, need I remind that Portal 1 didn't even hold TWO hours of play time? Stop acting like spoilt assholes.

if it was obvious people wouldn't still be arguing against it would they

Gonna need you to explain that.
I completed the single player in 5.6 hrs (steam timer) and I honestly found it fantastic. Gears of war on the xbox cost me a tenner more at launch and hand on heart lasted for 4 hours. Portal 2 was priced well and was fantastic all around in my opinon I have never found a game funnier or more satisfying to finish and feel it was worth every penny. Now I need to get this next few weeks of exams over and I can do the Co-op.
i played through portal 2 twice
developers commentary broskis
Gonna need you to explain that.
Unfortunately, i have to agree with him about the ruining of tf2, it used to be much better before they added in trillions of ridiculous items
Thats not the fault of the cash store though, so its kind of irrelevant
Valve is probably the best video game company out there.
The world would be a much better place if EA and Activision wasn't out there to lower the standards.
People who complain about the DLC are the worst moronic, simple-minded meatheads I've ever witnessed. The "DLC" is purely cosmetic and TOTALLY optional as it doesn't change the gameplay ONE BIT.
Shut up and enjoy GOTY 2011
Valve is probably the best video game company out there.
Let us not forget about Nintendo. Their games have kept us amused for generations.
if they were selling stuff that actually changed the gameplay I might care, but it's just aesthetic hats
I wouldn't define myself as a shallow kleptomaniac and therefore probably wouldn't buy these hats, but I don't have any qualms with Valve taking money off stupid people. The portal series is popular with many different demographics, including the farmville playing facebook addicts who eat this shit up. Doesn't affect my game though, so I don't really care and neither should you.
I dont see how they can complain about time. The first portal took me 2 hours straight to beat. But I think theyre just mad that Valve is capitalizing on fanboyism at this point.'
The older generation is at war with the younger generation because the older generation misses the innovation that valve brought to the table and the newer generation is satisfied with gimmicks and hats.
You got it kind of mixed up.
I think more correct (not meaning 'tis completely correct or right or however you put it) is that "new generation" is complaining about the optional DLC that you can mostly unlock by playing the game, while the "old generation" just plays the game and doesn't give a rat's ass about the optional DLC.
Both "generations" love the game though, and would sell their and :their: families' souls for Episode 3.
Now the metacritic rating is 96.
I wouldn't mind if it gained another point and just sat there on top of the PC list looking all smug
While most of the complaints about the game are invalid and overly exaggerated, the one revolving around the store is a valid one for the most part.
Not only does it blatantly recycle a milked to death idea, but also for painfully obvious money making reasons. Bobby Kotick shaking a random customer upside down by his legs for money would probably be a less obvious cash grab then the store currently is.
Ultimately it could be described as a painfully unnecessary intrusion into a masterpiece, which noticeably worsens the overall impression of it, almost as if someone drew a bright green circle with a permanent sharpie in the middle of Mona Lisa's forehead.
The store also acts as a general dumb down and as an exploit of the casual gaming community, who are usually the ones to buy this type of stuff in the first place. To be perfectly honest, the whole thing is probably even worse of a casual exploit then in tf2, considering the arguably larger casual audience that portal attracts.
Other then that, I really do not have a problem with the game, and whoever beat it in 4 hours most likely received an incomplete experience. Honestly, I have nothing against speed run maniacs, but complaining about the game being too short afterwards is somewhat unfair if you have a hobby of beating games as fast as possible. I personally spent the entire night playing it, immersing myself and enjoying the wonderful world of the game.

I think that is very arguable, but I am too lazy to look for the numbers.
To be honest I didn't even notice the store until someone told me it was under robot enrichment icon
How the hell could anyone beat it in four hours? It took me eight and I didn't even get stuck on any puzzles. Everyone loved Portal and that was only around two hours long. People are just trying to make excuses to hate the game other than the fact that it has in-game purchases.
How the hell could anyone beat it in four hours? It took me eight and I didn't even get stuck on any puzzles.
They complete puzzles faster without enjoying the game itself. Rushing.
In my opinion, Portal 2 is everything Portal was, but just better.
Not to mention Source's makeover.

Does it matter to me? Not in the slightest.

I think the reason people get so pissed about it is because Valve is acting really greedy.
Yeah well, wouldn't you cash off on idiots?
I think the reason people get so pissed about it is because Valve is acting really greedy.
this is when defenders say that Valve is a business therefore their goal is to get as much money as possible
and this is when the opposition say that the store goes against what they've been saying
and it goes in circles
[editline]wefe[/editline]
see above lol
I think the reason people get so pissed about it is because Valve is acting really greedy.
Best way they could've done it, imho: Use the co-op to unlock all of the gestures, hats, etc. through completing challenges, like completing a chamber only relying on your partner. [sp]Companion cube flag/skin[/sp]
I think the reason people get so pissed about it is because Valve is acting really greedy.
Yeah well, that doesn't make the game any worse now does it?

If you speed run and don't appreciate the achievements that actually explain story a bit, great dialouge, environments and explore then you aren't going to enjoy the game.
I can understand if you wanna speed run afterwards but people who speed run the first time and never play again are just ruining the experience for themselves.
Yeah well, that doesn't make the game any worse now does it?
It does ruin the feel a bit.
Not 5.1 much, but enough that it's not an obvious 10
