Giving the game a negative review due to the online store is preposterous. However I do believe that if the items and gestures were only available trough achievements the game would be a lot more fun. Imagine there were actually hard and/or time consuming achievements. Like the gnome in Ep2. And you got a special hat to show off you did it. Proof that you are superior to your friends.
Now anyone can get it and it doesn't proof anything.

Anyways, it's User Review has climbed up to 8.0. Sadly, this is still an under-rating and should rise to at least >9.
Apparently an 8 still counts as a bad score in this case.

Valve doesn't want to reward players through achievements anymore because of the steam achievement manager.

Why?

are you serious

what the fuck do you mean by "why" what is there to explain
Why?
What is there to explain?
How does the steam achievement manager stops Valve from rewarding their players for these achievements.
How does the steam achievement manager stops Valve from rewarding their players for these achievements.
Because players would just use the Steam Achievement Manager to get all the achievements, getting all the taunts/hats in the game without even playing.
They should fix it.
They should fix it.
They can't.

I can see where they are coming from. To include hats in a game completely ruins the aesthetics of the game, which happened already to TF2. Portal 2 does not need hats but I guess it's a cheap buck for Valve. It divides people into the haves and the have-nots.

It didn't ruin the aesthetics, what are you talking about. It adds individuality to each player, and with the already cartoony graphics doesn't look out of place at all.
I can see your point in Portal, but it doesn't apply to TF2.
The co-op DLC was put in for a joke more than anything. Just typical Valve trolling.
How the fuck did people beat it in four hours
Valve doesn't want to reward players through achievements anymore because of the steam achievement manager.
Yea but achievements are nothing compared to items you can see in game. I mean the whole reason why people first got achievements in tf2 is to get items. Giving a hat would be a much better incentive to play a game then an achievement.
Well it's nowhere near the promised length. I beat it in 7 hours. And coop in about 5-6 I suppose. I remember everyone thought it was way longer than that, or was that just wishful thinking?

No, it just demonstrates how abysmally whiny and bitchy gamers really are.

If I remember gabe said both would be 1 and a half to 2 times longer then portal 1s story and they both kind of are.

No, that's about the time everyone was expecting.

Too bad people expected a 10+ hour game.
Honestly, would Portal still be fun and intuitive if it went on for 10-15 hours?

of course it'll be fun, as long as they have the content to back it up
but I'm fine with the current game length as it is

Im hopping for later dlc chambers like they do with maps in other games. If they release a few puzzles every few months you wont get bored because it wont be a huge amount at one time.

If there's one genre that suffers easy from padded content, it's puzzle games.
And yeah, there's nothing wrong with its length. Not too short and it avoids feeling too stale.

Pretty much, it's why Rock Band was so successful when compared to Guitar Hero. As long as they're quality chambers and they don't cost too much, bring it.
Whoever is completing the game in 4 hours isn't paying much attention to the story/dialogue.
Valve always delivers in a timely and satisfying manner to its customer base.

How about free? 50$ is a bit much for a game with really diminished replay value.
I mean, I love the game. It's just stale when you already know what to do.

also since valve never charged for extra levels which would cause a lot of rage if they did. I mean if you think people are angry about a hat shop just wait until that.
How the fuck can something as trivial as a user score on Metacritic spawn a 30 page discussion? Something's not right here.
