I believe PSN has some full budget games available for download.
Yeah yeah, I know a lot of games on the 360 and PS3 are downloadable. It's just that it's not all of them. Also the fact that they're freaking expensive defeats the purpose of it all. I think the price is because they want game stores to survive and all, which makes sense I guess.
I believe PSN has some full budget games available for download. There's plenty of large games there too, uncharted 1 and 2 and both infamous games for example. [editline]26th February 2013[/editline] PC games maybe. PS3 exclusives go up to 50 and uncharted 1 is like 22 gigs, same with 2. Heck, Resistance: Fall of Man is 15 gigs and that was a launch title, 2006.
that's a different thing altogether. Obviously PS3 games are bigger because they can be, as they're on the blu ray format, but when the consoles launched most games were not any bigger than 2gb and could often fit on 3 cds or less. even if you did download a game, in other words, it took up very little space.
Looks like I cant get a ps4 then. My internet is capped at 20GB a month.

okay. so now we know that PS4 won't have BD drive
why would it not... sony is a member of the BDA (the group that developed the format) rofl
Good. People should stop making CDs, they are a waste of space and are not essential anymore.
Being highly optimistic at 300 KB/s, it would take around 48 hours for me to download 50 GB of data (provided my math is correct, which I believe it is). That's non-stopped mind (which isn't going to happen because I want to be able to browse the internet during the day), and if I could actually get 300 KB/s the entire time (unlikely, 200 KB/s is a better estimate). So, I'm sorry that my shit internet is holding back the abandonment of CD's, but I don't have any better options where I live. That goes for a lot of people, not just myself. Heck, there are still areas in the US where the best service is either dial-up, very spotty wireless (which they charge a lot of money for no bandwidth), or satellite (which is also expensive and not very good from what I hear).
Good. People should stop making CDs, they are a waste of space and are not essential anymore.
for you maybe not, but they're collectable and valuable. zeros and ones on a harddrive are worth fuck all.
okay. so now we know that PS4 won't have BD drive
Why do you say that
for you maybe not, but they're collectable and valuable. zeros and ones on a harddrive are worth fuck all.
CDs are digital it's literally the same thing doofus

I might actually get the PS4, it sounds like a really nice console so far. Hopefully the next Xbox will be just as nice.
CDs are digital it's literally the same thing doofus
I want to see you selling a hard drive with the zeroes and ones of NBA Elite 2011 for $1000 or having a nice shelf full of hard drives filled with videogames
Good: No more physical waste from all these disks n shit. Bad: Do I really even own my games?
As a PC gamer that has used Steam for years, I'm really used to downloading games. Physical games seem so weird to me :v: This is a step in the right direction. I bet the PS5 will use memory cards or something instead of optical media: If your ISP sucks, you can just buy games on memory cards.
Good. People should stop making CDs, they are a waste of space and are not essential anymore.
Hell no. If I wanted a game, I'd have to wait a week to fully download it.
I want to see you selling a hard drive with the zeroes and ones of NBA Elite 2011 for $1000 or having a nice shelf full of hard drives filled with videogames
cases waste space. if you like them, I'm sure there will be physical edition releases as the "special edition" but the fact is everything is going to go digital. Honestly, the only reason the disc is worth so much in that particular case is because there are so few left. What would you pay for a purely digital copy of that game if it were made available? Think about it. You're paying to say you own a copy, not because of the actual content on the disc. It's totally different. [editline]27th February 2013[/editline]
Hell no. If I wanted a game, I'd have to wait a week to fully download it.
how long will it take for that to change? 10 years tops?
how long will it take for that to change? 10 years tops?
A decade is a very, very long time in the world of computing. I'm not even sure what you are trying to get at with this sentence mind, are you saying 10 years isn't that much of a problem and he should quit bitching? Or are you saying that's an actual problem? Either way, removing physical media completely isn't the way forward, even in the future, you likely won't have constant access to high speed broadband with no caps, it's more likely, but not guaranteed. And most importantly, what happens to the content you paid for when the authentication servers go down? What happens if you want to re-download it, but the content server is gone?
