I feel extremely bad for it, but it doesn't seem to care in the photos. Anyways I'm all for doing whatever you can for animals, but [i]maybe[/i] this is going too far, considering how dependent it is?

I'm sure it is, it's missing the front half of it's skull.
All it takes is for whatever to happen and it might be in extreme pain, or at the least will not be able to moisten its eyes and nobody has a perfect track record so keep that in mind. You don't want to know what happens when your eyes dry out, especially for an extended period, it's bad.

I remember I parked my car on a busy street going through a suburb once and saw some shit flailing around on the asphalt maybe thirty feet away. Went over to look and it was a cat with it's skull cracked open and its eyeballs flopping about while the thing looked like it was having a seizure. Got ran over, apparently.
Overall, not a pleasant sight. Must suck more to be the owner and not having your cat come home either.
