• Hacker of Sarah Palin's e-mail found guilty

I'd say give him a year for being a dickhead. Nobody likes an email cracker but 20 years? That's more than some rapists get.
Well because it hasn't sunk in yet, it's UP TO 20 years. Although I still think it's BS; we have all sorts of laws regarding the internet and computers that are based on old policies, because the people making the laws are so old (and the tech is so new) that that's all they have to draw from. The fundamental problem is how innocuous and easy it is to commit certain computer crimes relative to their real-world counterparts. That isn't supposed to absolve responsibility, and it definitely doesn't lessen the ill effects of the crime; however, it still factors in to how we should deal with this sort of crime. In real life, you can't just be dicking around and steal trade secrets from a large corporation. It isn't possible to steal a car during an episode of the office and then redistribute copies of this car to all your friends. All I'm saying is that if cavemen had invented the internet, we'd have much more reasonable laws concerning it. Note that I'm not necessarily talking lesser sentences, I'm talking about a completely new system that doesn't apply old rules to fundamentally different situations.

In my opinion he should be let off with a slap on the wrist, not because I think this was funny or something, but after this whole experience he probably realizes the actual risks of what he was doing and wouldn't do it again anyway.
Somewhere' Bill O'Reilly is masurbating.

The point of our Legal System isn't to punish people to the highest extent possible, it's to make sure they understand what they did wrong and ensure they don't do it again. I'm sure he would never do this again.

The point of jail isn't to rehabilitate people, it's to punish them! :downs:

Do you know how hard it is constantly waiting for christmas? :'C
I'm pretty sure being grounded for a week should be the maximum sentence for cracking someone's email.
20 years. For hacking her email? Really? That's not extreme or anything. They let murderers off with less. This is so fucking stupid.
Ahh, America. :911:
He's not sentenced to 20 years. It's UP to 20 years. He also wasn't found guilty of hacking her e-mail, that's a misdemeanor. The reason why he got arrested was because when he found out that the FBI were tracking him, he tried to obstruct the evidence.
It's Palin's fault for not having a secure password. Hell it was Yahoo for God's sake. She was practically asking to be hacked.
Focusing at those stars gives me a headache.
Lived here my whole life and still no idea why the stars are crooked. Were they drunk?
Lived here my whole life and still no idea why the stars are crooked. Were they drunk?
You answered your question at "Tennessee".
Ah, doin' it for the lulz. Remember kids, if you ARE doin' it for the lulz: Be sure it's legal. Don't be a douche about it.
Anything's legal if you don't get caught. Child porn and stolen Cheetos, anyone?
20 years is insane for a non-violent crime in which no money nor anything of material value was stolen.
They're making it as if he's working for someone else fighting against her in an election, when really he's just a hacker that did it for no particular reason. How was he discovered thoug?
i knew this guy on steam
Holy shit the dude is gonna get his ass raped for 20 years for hacking someones email?
CTunnel(the proxy he used) handed over his IP when they asked for it. Not to mention he showed his email when posting about hacking her email on 4chan.
Solution: Go behind 7 proxies.
when he gets out of jail, he'll get a great job at norton or some shit.
when he gets out of jail, he'll get a great job at norton or some shit.
Not really, it was real simple. When he discovered Sarah Palin used a Yahoo! E-mail account, he clicked "Forgot Password", it asked for her date of birth. He searched her on Wikipedia, got the date of birth, then was able to 'recover' her account. She was often criticized for not using a .gov e-mail prior to her being hacked.
unauthorized access of a computer
What the hell is this? Didn't he just answer the forgotten password questions?
So a minor felony (that's how I see it anyway) and a misdemeanor may land him 20 years? Really now USA...
20 fucking years? What has the world come to.
"He had every opportunity to pull out and not proceed."
So did Sarah's husband, and look what came of that
