Looks like a mechanism for a bomb, but like the clock that kid made, doesn't look like it has any explosive.
What I think is most ridiculous is that they claim they were justified because "you can never be too careful".
FFS, one of the first things he did with the god-damned thing was show it to a teacher and say "Hey, lookit what I made!", demonstrated how it was a clock and NOT a bomb, and they still arrest him for it.
Granted I've seen dumber shit happen for dumber stuff. One of our local Jr. Highschools was on lock-down because someone called in saying they saw a student with a long, metallic object wrapped in cloth under their arm, so they suspected it was a gun. 30 minutes into lock-down, the kid carrying the object came forward, and it was a fucking 3-foot long burrito wrapped in tin-foil.

The shits would've been dangerous
Some of them are exactly what happened to me.
In elementary I got in trouble at the computer lab. We had Macs, and for some reason the bomb box popped up. Teacher thought I was going to blow up the school, had in school suspension
In elementary yet again, I was in the computer lab. We were doing research on tornados. I ended up clicking a link to a M raded movie called Tornado. Or was it hurricanes, whatever. Worst thing is it had sound, so my PC was blaring so loud. I was banned from ever using a PC again at that school, and suspended.
In middle school someone said I had a bazooka in my backpack. I got suspended and had to admit I said it, even though I didn't.
In high school I got in serious trouble because the flashdrive I used a lot, not only had my work, but a game on it. Got suspended. So, I ended up bringing my own laptop to use, since you could. In order to connect to the internet there, the school has to take control of your laptop. They didn't like what they saw, got suspended. Hint, it was Steam and videogames. Didn't matter I wasn't playing it, it mattered that it was on my Laptop.
I remember playing the bomb clock game on a Macintosh (the classic 85 model) back in elementary and the teachers encouraged it in kindergarten.
That shit is absolutely haram these days and its kinda funny when I think about it :v:
Lucky I had only a few years of school left before that zero tolerance bullshit started, its the reason I harbor such animosity towards the discipline and policy schools enforce these days.
Poor kid. I hope he's absolved of any charges. This is beyond cruel and only punishes someone that was enthusiastic about education. Way to go.
They didn't charge him at all, they took him to a juvenile detention facility and processed him as an arrest. (fingerprints, mugshot, stuff like that). I don't know how that's even legal but that's Texas for you.

It has explosives, just to the left of the Novell tag it says "Charge Demolition M112" seems like a stupid amount of electronics to detonate C4.

You have to confuse the "green wire" people.

Key word being "high end". It's completely unreasonable to believe the kid would have access to plastic explosives.
That doesn't even look like a bomb to me.
To be fair though, it is in the obligatory ominous metal briefcase.

Might be fluff to make it appear to be a computer component or something on an X-ray scanner.
Man, these guys would lose their shit if they saw some of the stuff I made and took into my second / third grade show and tell. I made this solar powered little 'car' thing once, it was an old ice cream container with wires everywhere, a solar panel on top, batteries inside, little motor etc etc... looked just like a bomb lol. Everyone loved it, teacher gave me a gold star.
How times have changed. I really feel sorry for this kid, they should be giving him a pat on a back not bringing in the POLICE. Christ almighty. These are the times we live in I guess, stereotypes, profiling and assumption.
Shouldn't a fucking Officer know the difference between what a real bomb and a 'movie bomb' would look like? Especially one built by a kid?
I legit love this kid's name
"Ahmed Mohamed" is catchy as hell :v:

All of these teachers should be suspended and probably fined.
Why don't we all have a "BUILD YOUR OWN CLOCK" day. I can imagine making a clock out of potatoes and lemons.
This sort of thing is a national embarrassment. America must stop seeing Muslims as terrorists and start seeing them as normal ordinary people.
This kid might one day invent or help to invent something that will benefit mankind and we should encourage to keep on learning and innovate

Did he get in trouble for a gun hoax?

Nah, it wasn't a game, it was that frozen error screen or something. Looked like the classic round cartoon bomb but with a long fuse.
Idk how it is in America but in my experience once you've factored out the plain incompetent teachers it seems like the worst of the lot always get to the top and the majority of great teachers out there simply teach their subject being told what to do by often malicious and always less qualified people.
"Teacher inspires students" is hardly a good news story.
Obviously the tards will get all of the attention. Honestly, I see quite a few private schools being idiotic (christian ones, etc) and I imagine quite a few of those schools are just good at hiding that stuff or dealing with problems in secret before they escalate.

he's been formally invited to a science fair/astronomy night at the white house
Interestingly enough, his father has run for the president of Sudan twice. He has appeared on the news complaining about Islamophobia, and even traveled to Florida to protest a quran burning and gain media attention. I don't know about you, but something smells fishy here.

What's fishy about a muslim being against Islamophobia, and against a Quaran burning? There's even a video of him talking about what he wants to do if he becomes the president of Sudan:

Nothing fishy about that. Have you seen the current ruler of Sudan?
Why is it suddenly suspicious that a Muslim is protesting against Islamophobia?

What, that someone doesn't want to see people propagate hatred towards a minority? Is that bad?

Too much Looney Tunes
Interesting point raised:
If they honestly believed it was a bomb, why didn't they evacuate the school? Why did they put him in an office with the device and have people in the room with him?

Nope. Everyone laughed, nothing was done, and the kid became a national sensation for a short while, and was even invited to appear on TV.

They arrested him even after it was definitively proven it was not a bomb, so they didn't handle it like a bomb, but it could've been a bomb even though it wasn't, so they put the possibly-could-be bomb in a room full of faculty and police officers because better safe than sorry, it might've been a bomb!
