Just listened to the victory speech Donald Trump gave. I grinned ear to ear through the while thing. This is great.
I think he's a horrible public speaker, in that he has no eloquence. Speaks very simply and repeats himself a lot. Like "Hillary ran a very long and very hard campaign, for a long period of time." He fillers shit a lot. But I appreciated the minor olive branch of respect he offered to Clinton. It didn't come off as unrehearsed and dishonest like every time he had to use a teleprompter under Manafort's direction, which makes me just a little cautiously optimistic that the dirt-throwing was more campaign than personality. But I still doubt it. He has a lot of fucking work to do to make me have even a semblance of respect for him - resisting the GOP on revoking LGBT rights would genuinely make me think much more positively of him as an individual, even though his campaign has ruined political discourse in this country. But we'll see. I doubt it.
very excited for this extremely pro lgbt candidate
b-but the muslims are the real threat!!!
don't fall for the fear mongering u guys
its not like pence has a history of being so conservative that he has "correction" camps for LGBT people to cure them of being LGTB. oh wait he does Its not like he passed a law that allows hate crime to LGBT people oh wait he did
Most just say "he can't actually do that," ignoring that he's pledged to nominate a SC justice who will overturn Obergefell and that Pence will act as the new Cheney in defining Trump's political stances. Hopeful that Trump hangs on to his conscience and tells the GOP and Pence to fuck off. He's never personally been outspoken against LGBT rights, and actually used to be supportive, but with the GOP in full control with the ability to stack the Supreme Court... might not matter at all. It's concerning and the fact that people take those literally brand-new rights for granted is naive as all hell.

probably because their reason it's okay is 'lgbt rights aren't important to me' and they'd rather not say that
In any case I find that their silence speaks volumes. They tend to be conveniently silent whenever it comes to human rights issues or when it suits them. I didn't vote for Trump, but this is what we have now and we need to tackle the issues head on, not ignore them because we're too scared or too uninformed to speak up and discuss them. If any pro-Trump posters have an argument for a ban on LGBT rights, I'd love to hear them and I will debate you at my earliest convenience.
That's why the top players in the DNC need to go in the opposite direction in 2020. Tulsi Gabbard. An excellent, semi-experienced, young female veteran. Could easily be the face of the New Democratic Party after this colossal fuckup. There was no passion behind the Hillary campaign and it was motivated by DNC officials who were overconfident with Obama's success and wanted to repeat it with a woman, ignoring the reality of Clinton's many weaknesses as a candidate, her horrible polling history during elections, and so on. Gabbard. 2020. Easiest shutout against Trump in a long time, and a reinvigoration of the passion behind Bernie's campaign. Trump has energetic and passionate supporters upset with the status quo. The Democrats need to replicate that instead of trying to be the party of the status quo.
I agree that would be a smart move, or at least in the right direction, I don't agree with some of her views but I wouldn't mad just on principle if she did win unlike with Hillary. Whom I would've been livid at just because of what she's done.

How much does everyone want to be a bunch of polling stations added votes in Trumps favor? It wouldn't surprise me that a man who cries about rigged elections would try to rig it.
As I predicted, the candidate who kissed the most ass won.

Any defense for this damning piece of human rights mockery?
Tulsi Gabbard 2020.
Hilarious.
I'm really gonna miss smurfy. Dude's been here as long as I can remember. Always ahead of the ball on posting UK political stuff. Always having a great sense of humour. I'll be pouring out a drink for smurfy's account this week.
The fact that we fucking elected a candidate that brags about stripping rights away, in a country that was built on treating everyone equal, is so sickening and i have given up any hope for this travesty of a country.
How come nobody from the Trump camp talks about this? Anybody? Whenever I bring this up on this forum, in person, on Facebook etc. I can get no replies or information on why this is okay.
when pvt. martin called zilla a "gender confused twat" I think you had your answer
How about this, Trump posters? Any defense for this damning piece of human rights mockery?
Well right now it looks like McCrory is out which is surprising that we actually got Roy Cooper in.

At least ISIS will be gone in 30 days from now, right?
Well, if there were ever a time for political activism, now is it. At least the upshot of all this is we're probably going to see a lot more participation outside of just voting. Dems need to take this opportunity to both restructure their idea of a winning candidate and build up anticipation for upcoming elections so that people go out and vote. Also, 2020 is a pie in the sky goal but I think right now we need to consider what it's going to take to increase turnout and hype for the midterm elections in 2018 as well.
Gabbard or Booker is their only hope, most likely Gabbard for the factors you stated. This is all on the DNC had they nominated someone that the voters could like. Democratic party my ass. Bernie Sanders has his political revolution going, 4 years from now he may have the power to sway elections. He has the passion and the energized masses and what he has to do is get them to win local and state elections.
It's enormously frustrating, because Bernie was a candidate with a lot of energy behind him. His policies and endorsement still carry that energy. Unless the DNC are genuinely brain dead and try to field Kaine or some other old, establishment senator/politician, they'll pick Gabbard and suck Bernie's dick so hard to make up for this. Status quo will not win elections. Bernie will be too old and he's too distant from the DNC. Best hope - only hope - is bringing in fresh young blood. The "but Gabbard is inexperienced!" angle used against Obama holds zero weight when the sitting president has zero experience. It needs to happen - the DNC must adopt Trump's populism if they want to win. Bernie's populist social democracy had the ability to compete. The positivity and optimism behind that campaign would have crushed the negativity surrounding Trump's. Gabbard is beyond ideal - politically-experienced young minority female veteran who demonstrated a clear conscience and has the charisma and confidence to crush shit. Booker is second, because he's a good public speaker and can channel national pride well, but Gabbard is the best best option by far and I hope the DNC doesn't fuck things up again. Trump's economic ideas could lead to short-term growth, like most populism, but after 8 potential years it could be faltering. Important to take control in 4 years and reverse his policies before they cause irreversible long-term damage. Trying to bring back manufacturing and steel and coal is going to force the US to deregulate to compete and simultaneously damage the shit out of the environment. Needs to be cut off quickly and alternative, modern jobs or alternatives offered.
this country wasn't even close to treating everyone equal
well it sure as fuck isn't moving in that direction now
"American candidate disrespects Americans for decades, gets elected anyway"
I wonder if anything truly bad will actually happen.
I wonder if anything truly bad will actually happen.
There's riots happening so that's a start.

Those jobs aren't coming back unless we bottom out our pay, and environmental deregulation is just going to make it harder to utilize our other resources that are much more economically rewarding.

Whom I would've been livid at just because of what she's done.
We can empathize, then, surprisingly. I'm livid at Trump for trashing political discourse and legitimizing previously fringe ideas. Unbelievably livid that he insinuated that our democratic system was rigged - when yesterday more than ever proves it isn't. I'm livid that climate change will be ignored for at least 4 more years, and that the global economy will suffer according to the absolute majority of economists. Few people think of Hillary as an ideal candidate. She was always just "not Trump" for most people - I grew to appreciate her political talent the more I researched her, but she is absolutely a weak candidate and her electoral history proves that. Every time she runs for office her approval drops like 10-20 points. Once she's in office, almost everyone agrees she's competent and talented and her approval rises again. But in a presidential election, skeletons in your closet will kill you. Gabbard is actually an ideal candidate, and maybe over the next 4 years enough things will happen and we'll be able to have enough discussions to shift your support - we have many disagreements, but you're much more reasonable and willing to address my actual points than people like Blizzerd or Martin or (god forbid) orgornot.
I still love you guys. Hugs all around.

Autakry would just make him look even more fascist, but there's no way to compete on a global market without racing to the bottom. With green energy, and a decreasing reliance on oil and fossil fuels, self-sufficiency could be a possibility. Unlikely, though, considering how much the GOP fetishizes oil. Also the troubling fact that the majority of rare earth metals used for computing are most common in China. Whoops.
I just feel sad, today. I live in Washington, do I'll probably be fine. But what about other states?
Northeast states and West coast states will probably defend LGBT community, mid-west/south will be the ones bringing back the conversion camps. It may fall down to getting them out of these states, most likely by flight, to states where they won't be hunted down.
