You are then partaking in a counterproductive way of thinking. All this talk of educating the population, waiting for dissenting opinions to die out. This is the problem we in the left are facing - not once have you mentioned debating the right or listening to the dissenting opinion. Stop hiding from and shutting down disagreement, instead try talking it out. Bring facts, evidence, rational thinking, all these things were the defining trait of the liberal side six or so years ago. Stop educating and start communicating. You won't convince anyone by talking down to them. This is exactly what I'm talking about but more eloquently put.
lab rat wystan would like to disagree, listening and debating does jack shit I don't want to shut down differing political views, but I want to make sure we're all equal on moral ground there will always be a divide as long as people are free to believe that blacks are inferior, gays are subhuman, trans are devilspawns, women are tools. if we got rid of all this, I wouldnt mind anything else
all we need is california seceding from the states, then every american can move there and the trump presidency can go fuck itself
Couldn't have put it better myself. For everyone saying that "oh America is DOOMED (not like it already wasn't anyways XD)", you're as wrong as you were when you said that Trump was DONE and OVER when that video came out. #MAGA
You're making it incredible difficult for me to try and be mature, but all I will say is that I think you're celebrating this victory (from your perspective) in a terrible manner and you're not winning any friends. Nobody has claimed that democracy is broken.
"THE ONE I DON'T LIKE WON, DEMOCRACY IS BROKEN" - FP
Considering Hillary won the popular vote...
... I think nobody's listening, BDA. I think these wounds won't be able to be healed.
who is zilla?
Me
Die, you fucking Nazi.
Whoa we speak like gentlemen and act like one too you must stick a finger in his bum and spin him around like a parasol before slapping him on the cheek and then calling him out for the disagreements

If you read the pages before this everyone's saying that the US system is corrupt and that it isn't a real "majority vote."
Die, you fucking Nazi.
Thanks for proving my statement. How about instead of flaming about losing your free food stamps and welfare money you go and get a fucking job? (User was banned for this post ("Shitposting" - Pascall))
Just want to remind everyone that this election has proven that uneducated sociopaths like wystan are the majority in America. It's fucking terrifying.
Not very fair to call everyone who voted for trump an uneducated sociopath. That's part of the reason this country is as divided as ever; one party demonizes the other and takes the worst members as a blanket for all of the members.
The salt is unreal.

There are people here who do hold similar views to you, but you'll never meet them if you keep acting like this.
Pootis Man is one of those rare trolls that stays low so not to get banned don't fall for it

Mostly because I believe that evidence is the strongest tool in changing someones mind (this is also why I have yet to be convinced that there are more than two genders, I guess things like that make me center left when before I was placed much further left). Debating does matter, communication matters. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, because there are people out there who are impossible to convince, but either way you have to understand that the goal isn't the only thing that matters, the ends don't justify the means. This was forgotten during the left's fight for equality and beacuse of it, a lot of nasty people have become powerful and influental (anita sarskesian of all people influenced the UN on internet bullying for god sakes), which caused people to become disenfranchised with the left. You can't get rid of racism and homophobia with workplace quotas, but you can do it at the individual level by sharing knowledge and you'll notice the change happening from the bottom up instead of having to force it from the top down.

Just look at people like ANY REPULICAN NAME HERE, or ANY DEMOCRAT NAME HERE. They don't care about anything but being a "Team player" and even then they don't play well with their own team. no one can win
... I think nobody's listening, BDA. I think these wounds won't be able to be healed.
Fuck me I refuse to give up just yet. I tried to do my best this cycle. I know a number of posters got under my skin, and I probably got under theirs as well, but that doesn't mean shit's impossible to fix. Maybe I'm being an arrogant prick, but I'd like to think I managed to elevate the conversation held here in a couple threads and I have no intention of throwing in the towel. Few people are truly irredeemable with enough time.

I still think Trump is a literal retard.

Investing into a narrative of "us vs them" makes it just as easy and reflexive for them to stand by their dark, illogical perspectives. It's also important to recognize that they are, despite the ease of generalization, a minority. You can't cut straight through that bullshit while painting that minority perspective as the general trend, however, nor can you easily fight every point simultaneously. The more entrenched and hostile the perspectives become, the harder it becomes to see the merits of any of it.
Then why are you here?
Because there's more to this forum than the political hivemind. Like games and programming and cars and fast threads.
... I think nobody's listening, BDA. I think these wounds won't be able to be healed.
Not today, obviously. Hell, probably not for a long, long time. Well beyond Trump's short and ugly presidency, we'll still be wrestling with this.
Not today, obviously. Hell, probably not for a long, long time. Well beyond Trump's short and ugly presidency, we'll still be wrestling with this.
Yeah, I'm probably just being too pessimistic at the moment. if anything could drive a man to drink, it's been this election cycle.
I don't go for the "liberal tears" (or "Remainer tears" for Brexit) thing but you guys who are whining and complaining and saying how the country is ruined are annoying and it makes you look so petty. Stop embarrassing yourselves. Grow up, the other team won. Have you never lost a competition before?
Because there's more to this forum than the political hivemind. Like games and programming and cars and fast threads.
Yes but he literally said that he didn't want to make friends on facepunch because it was full of liberals, and I kinda' took that to mean that he didn't want to make friends on facepunch at all. Which is kinda' a sad perspective to be honest. I mean, I have friends that supported Trump. I'm not happy with their choice but I'm still their friends.
I think describing politics as between two teams shows a lack of maturity too, as it simplifies things into an "us vs. them" argument which is what we're trying to avoid. This is not a game. A lot of people have reasons to be upset. Telling them to grow up is not responsible.
Grow up, the other team won. Have you never lost a competition before?
It's for the leader of hundreds of millions of people in the most powerful position in the world, not a middle school volleyball game
