You're just filling in the blanks to suit whatever you're narrative is. We really don't know.
I'm basing my conclusions off of facts. Groups of young men mugging people in Washington DC using tactics like these are apparently fairly common. I have a lot more to go off than OP's spurrious accusation that these people are activists in any way with absolutely no evidence and not a single source I can find describes them as activists with Black Lives Matter.
Also, from a different article: Hopefully this isn't true.
It's not a hate crime, it's a mugging. A hate crime would have been if they simply bashed him for his ethnicity, but no, they were seemingly after his credit card and other personal belongings.
I don't have a narrative. You and OP do. [editline]16th February 2016[/editline] It's blatantly not a hate crime so why would it be prosecuted as such? There is nothing to suggest they attacked him based on ethnicity.
Frankly, I think viewing "Black Lives Matter" as an entity is in itself pretty deeply misguided. BLM is a hashtag, not an organization. There's no membership, no group meetings, no codified goals, nothin'. "Black Lives Matter" is literally just anybody who says, "black lives matter," which ain't exactly much of a litmus test for determining how socially aware they actually are.

Moments like this make me wants to find a BLM member and punch his stupid fucking face in. It makes me realize how everything sucks and I can't do or say anything because I'm white. Fuck this gay ass country for letting this shit pass.

Like, fuck, assuming the people in the article did actually consider themselves activists, this is exactly the line of reasoning they used to justify their stupid thuggery. Congratulations on being just as pointlessly backwards as they are.
they're obviously not activists, but i'd argue that they're making an implicit negative impact by mentioning the ideology's phrasing while perpetrating a newsworthy crime
I'd certainly agree that it isn't helping but for me this is just a story of some thugs who were going to mug someone and the whole "do you think black lives matter" and racist stuff is window dressing.

Well done.
It's not a hate crime, it's a mugging. A hate crime would have been if they simply bashed him for his ethnicity, but no, they were seemingly after his credit card and other personal belongings.
Is it really that hard to understand that they'd steal from a person that they had attacked for being "racist".
I'd certainly agree that it isn't helping but for me this is just a story of some thugs who were going to mug someone and the whole "do you think black lives matter" and racist stuff is window dressing.
agreed, but you can see people are already taking the mentioning of BLM and running with it media doesn't take critical thinking skills into account
Moments like this make me wants to find a BLM member and punch his stupid fucking face in.
Nice, end up with an assault charge in some misguided attempt to stick it to these people who attacked a war vet.
This is just as fuckin' misguided and hostile as anything I've seen your supposed "BLM Member" say.
Yeah, did he beat a decorated veteran until he lost consciousness, then steal his wallet? No. He didn't. Angry forum post does not equal brutal attack and robbery.
Now you see, whereas the article isn't referring to a hate crime, some people here are only choosing to see it that way, this post is actually inciting hate crime. Well done.
I'm sorry, how is this a hate crime? Is BLM a protected minority group?
Putting aside the notion of finding a "BLM member" (remember, they don't carry cards, as one obviously very bright poster in this thread has already mentioned), there is nothing to indicate that these guys are actually a part of BLM.
"BLM doesn't have members.... but trust me, these guys weren't members."

Fuck this gay ass country for letting this shit pass.
literally advocating violence on innocent people unrelated to this incident, i swear your posts in sh are always so cynical, you're one of the worst posters on this forum
Putting aside the notion of finding a "BLM member" (remember, they don't carry cards, as one obviously very bright poster in this thread has already mentioned), there is nothing to indicate that these guys are actually a part of BLM.
Their motivation could have easily been BLM related. They asked "Do black lives matter" and may have attacked the guy because he didn't answer.
agreed, but you can see people are already taking the mentioning of BLM and running with it media doesn't take critical thinking skills into account
I can't disagree with you. The concept of what "BLM" is or is not has been pretty deliberately defined by the media. BLM are people who don't like cops or white people, if our concept of social ideology is to be fed to us like this.
This is just as fuckin' misguided and hostile as anything I've seen your supposed "BLM Member" say. I admit I got emotional in my post, but only because this is some stupid crap I hate seeing on SH every day. Just pisses in my milk.
Yeah, did he beat a decorated veteran until he lost consciousness, then steal his wallet?
Nah, he's just saying he wants to go violently assault a "BLM" supporter, much as these schmucks likely said they wanted to go violently assault somebody who doesn't support it (assuming we're giving them the benefit of actually assuming they believed themselves activists). It's the same exact stupidity, just on opposite sides of the fence. Dumb, pointless violence. Surely that's not lost on you? You can't honestly fail to see how his comment is hypocritical in this situation?
A mugging tactic where you get as much attention as possible?
A mugging tactic where you stall and/or distract the mark.
Is it really that hard to understand that they'd steal from a person that they had attacked for being "racist".
Renowned critic of thought-crime proposes thought-crime to charge common muggers with a hate crime because eh, they were probably racist too. But no please keep telling me how I'm the one with a narrative to push.
Also suddenly I'm the bad guy for being outraged by an American Vet getting beaten up for no reason? I'm sorry, but I just felt I had to say something about this.
Nah, he's just saying he wants to go violently assault a "BLM" support, much as these schmucks likely said they wanted to go violently assault somebody who doesn't support it (assuming we're giving them the benefit of actually assuming they believed themselves activists). Also again, I was emotional when I was typing that post out, please stop giving me shit about it, I acknowledge it and I'm sorry. Jesus Christ.
Also again, I was emotional when I was typing that post out, please stop giving me shit about it, I acknowledge it and I'm sorry. Jesus Christ.
you're a tertiary reference in a discussion outlining the flaws in the type of argument you displayed, nobody in here is directly chiding you anymore besides passively referencing the fact that you made a severely flawed argument, there's no longer any need for you to take any of it personally
There's a difference between expressing violent sentiment, and committing violent acts.
not as bad as actually doing it but still a bad thing.
The power of an inaccurate headline. OP knows what he was doing. Read the article next time champ.
The articles title is at worst being presumptuous.
