Frankly, I think viewing "Black Lives Matter" as an entity is in itself pretty deeply misguided. BLM is a hashtag, not an organization. There's no membership, no group meetings, no codified goals, nothin'. "Black Lives Matter" is literally just anybody who says, "black lives matter," which ain't exactly much of a litmus test for determining how socially aware they actually are.

they're obviously not activists, but i'd argue that they're making an implicit negative impact by mentioning the ideology's phrasing while perpetrating a newsworthy crime

it's difficult to label and typify this kind of thing in the age of internet, considering you can pledge your support for a cause and organize events all via twitter, i'd agree that BLM is definitely not an organization per se, but it's somewhere in the cloudy margins between "idea" and "group"
