I went into the family room, found my parents' Duck Dynasty DVD's, and spat all over them.
you showed them!!!
Nobody is excusing him, calm down, he's stating that "This is pretty typical of deep south old people so it shouldn't be a surprise" You guys need to take your fingers off the triggers, wow.
Did you just willfully ignore the post I quoted? That's all he did.
I went into the family room, found my parents' Duck Dynasty DVD's, and spat all over them.
No you didnt. Your trying to hard.
Did you just willfully ignore the post I quoted? Fucking verbatum.
I sure didn't ignore it but your ridiculously aggressive attitude is pretty annoying. He didn't say "Guys he's old it's okay that he thinks this :)" He said "This shouldn't be a surprise" You really need to cool off.
You can be old and be a decent, tolerant person. Being old isn't an excuse to be a hatemongering piece of shit, this is such a stupid mindset.
In a way it is, I bet the way we think right now, on at least a few things will be seen as awful and wrong in the future. Society has been changing with massive rapidity, especially recently, so who knows, in the future it could be seen as a human rights violation to deny rights to self-conscious robots.
I hate this show mainly because I moved to Texas FROM North Lousiana and i have a beard that's kind of similar to theirs style-wise. Guess what I get called

I'm perfectly calm, I just can't tolerate old bigots. And seeing people pass it off as nothing because he's an old redneck. He's still a nationally recognized figure spreading hate. Also don't tell me to "cool off" just cause I pointed out your ignorance please.

I don't believe anyone here attempted to pass it off as nothing. Anyone who disgrees with his statements is going to be bothered by it but to take it to the level you are is incredibly tiring because you assault not only him for making the statement, but anyone who isn't as aggressively verbal about disagreement as you are. Tell me how my ignorance is showing here.

He was interviewed about his beliefs, specifically those about homosexuality and he answered what he honestly believed. He isn't actively promoting homophobia, especially not in his show.
Wish Psi had said it so the show could just die
Si is probably the least homophobic of the bunch.

I stated my opinion and you attacked me telling me to "pull my finger off the trigger." You're an idiot. don't you just hate the slippery slope argument, it seems like all anti-gay people can think of is that if allowed to be gay they would end up sleeping with mules, well i say let people with more self-restraint be gay, they will be able to resist the urge to fuck mules, if you believe you cannot be responsible enough for yourself then go ahead and stay straight, but don't let those of us with more self-control be hobbled by your own failings
Robertson also shares an interesting rationale for voting for Mitt Romney over President Obama, saying he favored the candidate because he was from Salt Lake City, a safer city than Chicago. "Where would I rather be turned around at 3 o'clock in the morning?" he said.
this is how a man who has lived under 12 presidents votes. by judging their hometown.
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he tells reporter Drew Magary. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” He also muses rather colorfully about his own sexual orientation: “It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” In a quote that may raise even more eyebrows than his feelings about gays, Robertson claims he "never" saw black people mistreated during the pre-civil rights era in his home state, and strongly suggests that African Americans were more content under Jim Crow. "Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash," he said. "They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
I love how people keep calling him "homophobic", just like they do with everyone else who doesn't agree with the homosexual lifestyle, even though it's quite the stretch. I mean come on guys, stop jumping to homophobia every time someone says they don't agree with the lifestyle. If he were saying "I will not sell my duck calls to gay people", that's one thing. Just because he doesn't agree with their lifestyle, doesn't mean he is scared of gayness or hates them. I don't really care what you are, or what you believe. But stop trying to label people as things they aren't. TLDR: Simply not agreeing with a sexual preference =/= Homophobia or hate.
Growing up in the country i tried my best to avoid this show but damnit when i watched it i really liked it.
I have to admit they have some pretty glorious beards. I'm almost jealous of them.
I have to admit they have some pretty glorious beards. I'm almost jealous of them.
I knoooooow right? God since i started watching that show, i have wanted to grow a beard like that. My gf says no but my body is telling me yes.

"I hate this man because he doesn't think exactly like do! What a disgusting human being!" Sounds...oddly similar to what you are doing to him...no? Put your persecution complexes away. If he was constantly preaching that his thought process was the objectively superior one and that his beliefs should be the beliefs of all then maybe you would have a point, but the show mentions NONE of this kind of stuff. It's just them being goofy. I know that mentioning LGBT communities in a negative way on FP gets massive hate boners throbbing, and I get it, they don't deserve to be treated so poorly by the common public and a lot of them have earned their persecution complexes by enduring bullshit they shouldn't have ever had to. But this isn't anything like that. That rage could be used elsewhere, this isn't some kind of "guy spreading his beliefs as though everyone should think like he does" issue. Get over it, some people don't think like you do, stop taking it as a personal insult that not everyone is a clone of you with your golden and perfect knowledge of the social balance.
TLDR: Simply not agreeing with a sexual preference =/= Homophobia or hate.

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there.
This is not "disagreement".
Admittedly that is a fairly bad thing to say. Basically damning people due to their personal decisions, not a cool thing to say, and it isn't right to judge people like that. But seriously, these people are like SUPER conservative. That doesn't make it right to think that way, but as long as they keep these thoughts inward and don't like...try to talk it into the show or something, like using it as a platform I don't see a problem with it. People think differently, I don't agree with this opinion, but I respect his right to hold it, just so long as he doesn't push it on others, or say refuse service to gays, or let it effect stuff like that, it shouldn't matter. It sucks yes, that people still think like that, but so long as he doesn't take those thoughts into hateful avenues, like refusing sales, or speaking on it in any way other than "this is my opinion" it shouldn't be this big of a deal.
Admittedly that is a fairly bad thing to say. Basically damning people due to their personal decisions, not a cool thing to say, and it isn't right to judge people like that.
You could've just stopped at this bit. The point is, some people are uncomfortable with the idea of these people continuing to have a TV show and enjoy lots of positive media coverage if they have attitudes like this. When you put someone on TV, you are giving them support and a vehicle to reach millions of people with the implied approval that having a TV show brings.
TLDR: Simply not agreeing with a sexual preference =/= Homophobia or hate.
"Disagreeing" with the existence of a subset of people is bigotry pretty much any way you slice it
it shouldn't be this big of a deal.
the worst that is happening is people on the internet are calling him a bigot. It isn't being made into nearly as big of a deal as it should.
You could've just stopped at this bit. When you put someone on TV, you are giving them support and a vehicle to reach millions of people with the implied approval that having a TV show brings.
That is completely understandable. They could obviously, at any time, fit a little innocuous seeming 30 second talk segment with one of them talking about this. But as we know, with that kind of reach it wouldn't actually be that innocuous at all. The reason I didn't "stop at that bit" is because I believe it's not a black and white issue, and there should be more nuance than IS GOOD and IS BAD and that's it. I personally think that it isn't something that would even be mentioned had an interviewer not asked. Plus, you have to understand that it's not like it's a live show, political editing as they like to call it, would likely not see issues like this into the show regardless of them mentioning it during filming, even if they did. I see your point though.
I personally think that it isn't something that would even be mentioned had an interviewer not asked.
If you don't want your politics to be heard you decline the question. I'd totally still make my politics be heard anyway but I would expect randoms on the internet to hate me for it and accept that I can't play the innocent victim card since I made that decision myself.
I watched that show once. Its title is very misleading. I was very disapointed.
i thought this show was about hunting ducks but the episode included them squshing out shit from a dead bullfrogs ass and then installing security cameras i was so confused

When you put someone on TV, you are giving them support and a vehicle to reach millions of people with the implied approval that having a TV show brings.
Since when were TV shows suppose to cater to everyone's comforts? Are we supposed to limit what people can put on TV because it makes some people uncomfortable? What about the other side of the coin? What if a bunch of conservatives were uncomfortable with a TV show with people who are gay? "I don't like the idea of these people having a show because of their homosexual lifestyles." Hell I can hear it now. Would you say the same thing then? I'm offended by Animal Planet's blatant lies. So I stopped watching that channel. People who don't like Duck Dynasty should do the same.
