I didn't think of it that way, that's certainly a better way to do it. I'm not defending the guy, I've never even watched the show, the quotes and clips I have seen are pretty damn funny, but I guess to me it's just the principal that it's stupid to attack someone for thinking differently than you do, no matter what side of what issue people are on.
Like I said, it's not like the guy is trying to start a movement. Thousands of people unfortunately think that way, and you would never know unless they mention it, and therefore I feel you should treat this the same as anyone else who happens to disagree with you on anything, UNLESS they allow the disagreement to affect the way they live or interact with what they disagree with, because that's not ok. Otherwise, I feel like it's just lashing out at someone for a disagreement which is just as bad as what you are accusing them of, to me of course, my opinion, not fact.
I despise all reality shows, this one is no different. People doing things that people do, how exciting!
Might be better for people who don't live next door to rednecks, though. I get plenty of them without having to watch a show about them.
My friend Ronny is redneck as fuck. He's also a rocket engineer so get-together a with him are normally a blast.
i thought this show was about hunting ducks but the episode included them squshing out shit from a dead bullfrogs ass and then installing security cameras
i was so confused
Benelli Presents Duck Commander is actually about hunting, Duck Dynasty is basically them being idiots.
That is completely understandable. They could obviously, at any time, fit a little innocuous seeming 30 second talk segment with one of them talking about this. But as we know, with that kind of reach it wouldn't actually be that innocuous at all.
The reason I didn't "stop at that bit" is because I believe it's not a black and white issue, and there should be more nuance than IS GOOD and IS BAD and that's it. I personally think that it isn't something that would even be mentioned had an interviewer not asked. Plus, you have to understand that it's not like it's a live show, political editing as they like to call it, would likely not see issues like this into the show regardless of them mentioning it during filming, even if they did. I see your point though.

Since when were TV shows suppose to cater to everyone's comforts? Are we supposed to limit what people can put on TV because it makes some people uncomfortable? What about the other side of the coin? What if a bunch of conservatives were uncomfortable with a TV show with people who are gay? "I don't like the idea of these people having a show because of their homosexual lifestyles." Hell I can hear it now. Would you say the same thing then?
I'm offended by Animal Planet's blatant lies. So I stopped watching that channel. People who don't like Duck Dynasty should do the same.
That's, uh, the point, I thought, about all of this.
Some people are offended by Phil's comments, and are getting pissed off, and should probably stop watching the show, if they do. I don't think anyone here was legitimately suggesting that Duck Dynasty, the show, is a homophobic, racist mouthpiece for the rednecks, and that the show's producers would somehow let that shit make it to broadcast, or even that the show was in danger of becoming this anytime soon.
This is the typical fluff-up anytime a celebrity turns out to be a real person with prejudices and flaws and says dumb shit to a rolling camera. I'm just calling the apologists to heel for trying to smooth away what did actually happen.
Get over it, some people don't think like you do, stop taking it as a personal insult that not everyone is a clone of you with your golden and perfect knowledge of the social balance.
I will never get over it for as long as I have to fear going out in public because of shit I can't help.
The homophobic comments were pretty bad, but the whole "blacks being happier before they had basic human rights" bit is just inexcusable, no matter how you slice it.
Edit: It's all inexcusable, really, but a sad fact is that homophobic comments are still more accepted by society at large than racist ones.
People are acting like he's actively preaching hate, but he's not. Can you show me where he actually treats people differently? I bet you can't.
He has his opinion. He is free to have that opinion. He was asked about his opinion on a topic. He gave a truthful answer about what his OPINION is. He's not on an anti-gay crusade. He didn't start the topic. He basically said "I don't agree with it, but it's not my job to judge you".
I'm sure we all wish he had a different opinion, but nobody can force him to change his opinion. And as far as them also having a show, as long as they aren't using as a platform to preach on his opinion, why should that even matter?
I will never get over it for as long as I have to fear going out in public because of shit I can't help.
That's my point though, it's not like you are going to walk out your door and get attacked by a mutant redneck beard trying to strangle you from this guy. People seem to be projecting their frustrations onto THIS guy as if he is a cause of something, even though he is just giving his opinion. It's a pretty shit opinion, but as long as he isn't going around telling everyone in America to hate people that aren't like them, who really cares. Just ignore the fact that some people think dumb things, really, is how I see it.
I do wanna say though, my condolences for what is an ACTUAL issue, and that's the treatment of gays, and other members of the LGBT community. I assume you have probably had to deal with some really stupid shit and that's not cool. I am not going to pretend to know what you have been through, but around where I live, there are some terrible, bigoted, violently hatred filled people, and I'm really really sorry, on behalf of people that are straight but have ZERO problem with people who aren't that you, and people like you, have likely dealt with some seriously unfair bullshit. In Indiana where I live, there are some really stupid people, and it makes me mad just to hear them brag about beating up a gay, or black, or "crossdresser" as they always said when I was in highschool. I am legitimately sorry that some people can't just keep their thoughts in their heads. :C
"I hate this man because he doesn't think exactly like do! What a disgusting human being!" Sounds...oddly similar to what you are doing to him...no?
Put your persecution complexes away. If he was constantly preaching that his thought process was the objectively superior one and that his beliefs should be the beliefs of all then maybe you would have a point, but the show mentions NONE of this kind of stuff. It's just them being goofy.
I know that mentioning LGBT communities in a negative way on FP gets massive hate boners throbbing, and I get it, they don't deserve to be treated so poorly by the common public and a lot of them have earned their persecution complexes by enduring bullshit they shouldn't have ever had to. But this isn't anything like that. That rage could be used elsewhere, this isn't some kind of "guy spreading his beliefs as though everyone should think like he does" issue. Get over it, some people don't think like you do, stop taking it as a personal insult that not everyone is a clone of you with your golden and perfect knowledge of the social balance.
It's not an indication of arrogance, it's a concern that he'll justify the irrational hatred of others because of how influential he is in modern culture. If he was a homeless man without any money or fame tied to him, no one would hold him highly in his statement.
Birth of a Nation justified the hatred of the KKK. It took black historians and sociologists to correct it, but the damage was done already.
I'll never cease to be amazed by FP's willingness to defend the indefensable.
I love how people keep calling him "homophobic", just like they do with everyone else who doesn't agree with the homosexual lifestyle, even though it's quite the stretch.
I mean come on guys, stop jumping to homophobia every time someone says they don't agree with the lifestyle. If he were saying "I will not sell my duck calls to gay people", that's one thing. Just because he doesn't agree with their lifestyle, doesn't mean he is scared of gayness or hates them.
I don't really care what you are, or what you believe. But stop trying to label people as things they aren't.
TLDR: Simply not agreeing with a sexual preference =/= Homophobia or hate.
hahahaha what the fuck is "the homosexual lifestyle"? are you being serious?
hahahaha what the fuck is "the homosexual lifestyle"? are you being serious?
Um?
Homosexuality is a lifestyle...?
hahahaha what the fuck is "the homosexual lifestyle"? are you being serious?
I know it's not something you choose, so don't even start with that. I probably should have chose a better term to describe it, but all I can think of makes it sound like it's a choice. Don't get your panties in a bunch over my inability to express my thoughts.
Um?
Homosexuality is a lifestyle...?
i don't like the way he uses the term. homosexuality is attraction to the same sex. it doesn't imply any kind of "lifestyle" that all gay people consciously choose to live by.
what i'm getting at is it's easier to say "i disagree with the homosexual lifestyle" than it is to say "i disagree with gay people." sorry if i'm unclear.

i'm getting my panties in a bunch over the fact that you think people can "disagree" with homosexuality and not be homophobic.
I personally can't stand the show because it's another fake as fuck reality show with a family that ends up in zany situations. Honestly feels just as bad as honey boo boo and makes the south look like everyone is like that here when it's definitely not. Don't even get me on the fucking ludicrous merchandising that's is fucking everywhere from antifreeze to beef jerky. This just further cements my hate for this show.
Don't get your panties in a bunch over my inability to express my thoughts.
How are we to tell the difference between an inability to express yourself properly and genuine assholery?
Mindless fun until the guy becomes famous and people start listening to his idiotic, homophobic bullshit.
Uh-huh.
I'm toooootally going to listen to someone just because they're famous.
No, it's about a bunch of idiots who don't deserve to be rich fucking around and acting like a bunch of fools.
"People who disagree with me don't deserve what they have legitimately earned."
I actually like the show occasionally because it's not like other "reality" shows. The fun is pretty wholesome and they're always preaching good morals. Not once has the gay or racist stuff in any way been alluded to. Can't say I'm surprised at all, either, considering where they're living or the way they live. Does that give them a free pass to be bigots? Well no, but it is just as easy to ignore.
an old redneck living in the sticks has backwards views on homosexuality and black people. i'm shocked

You'd be surprised at the others that do, considering that they believe in merit.

i saw duck dynasty headphones and i had no clue who the heck they were, i just assumed they were a band
i saw duck dynasty headphones and i had no clue who the heck they were, i just assumed they were a band
yeah I assumed they were a bunch of zz top wannabes but nope just asshole rednecks
i'm getting my panties in a bunch over the fact that you think people can "disagree" with homosexuality and not be homophobic.
So you don't think that it's possible for someone to THINK or hold an OPINION that something like homosexuality is wrong, but still treat them the same as everyone else? If you think something is bad you absolutely have to project hate onto it?
See, you think that to not be a bigot, you must completely agree with homosexuality 100%, and that's just not true at all. I can hate anyone I want, but I'm STILL going to treat them with the same respect and dignity that I would like to be treated with, because it doesn't mean that you are a horrible person or that you are any less of a person than I. It just means that I hold my own opinion on a topic.

if you treated homosexuals the same as everyone else you wouldnt consider homosexuality wrong.
if you treated homosexuals the same as everyone else you wouldnt consider homosexuality wrong.
That doesn't make any sense at all.
Holding the opinion that boning other dudes is wrong doesn't suddenly mean you can't treat that person with the same respect that you treat all people with.
If you act on that opinion that's another thing, but there is this thing called "keeping things to yourself".
Mermaids.
Oh yeah If forgot about that too, I think I remember a thread being posted here about it.
Have you seen the commercial for "The Capones"?
A cool documentary about the famous crime gang?
Nope sorry, here's a reality show about a family who's name is Capone and has no relation to the mafia!
Why is the TV in this country so awful.

you know what doesn't make any sense? claiming you can respect somebody yet consider an unalterable part of their being to be "wrong" for some arbitrary irrational reason.
i'm not saying it's impossible to hold those two thoughts simultaneously i'm saying it's still bigoted and hypocritical to do so.
