did you not catch the part where he said that black people are whiny nowadays and they were way happier under jim crow-era oppression or
Well that's his own bigoted opinion. From what I've seen, A&E fired him because of the comments on homosexuality, not race.
Yeah he's been suspended from the show.

God bless America.
Freedom of speech.
Is relevant how? A&E is a private company and this guy spouting off his idiotic views affects their business.

No, he's right. Phil totally has the right to be and say racist/homophobic things. That is his freedom of speech. However, it's a two way road, A&E and the public who watch him also have the right to no longer support him due to said beliefs.
What the fuck is Duck Dynasty? It seems like every store I go in just exploded in merchandise for them over the past few months and I have no idea what it is.
I've only ever heard the name being thrown around here and there, but up until now I thought it was a sequel to Duck Dodgers.
Well he said homosexuality was a sin, never that he hated or had any ill will towards gay people, so they technically fired him for a commonly held religious belief which will catch A&E more flak anyway. Damned if you do damned if you don't. Afterwords he put out a release through A&E saying he doesn't hate people for their lifestyles because he believes everyone is a child of God or something to that effect. Strong christians are going to turn this into a religious thing.
gays being sinners is pretty much the only salient concept in the bible apparently
Hey look, a redneck ultraconservative celebrity saying gays are bad. By the way, anyone want to buy a bridge?
Really though, can anyone explain why this show is at all interesting? I've never honestly had any urge to watch even a trailer for it.
It's a poorly made "reality" TV show with terrible acting centered around ludicrously rich hillbillies spending exorbitant amounts of money on stupid shit and being retards in general.

Just to be clear, nowhere in the Bible does it say being gay is sinful. It says specifically having gay sex is sinful.

Until know I thought it was something to do with Disney's Duck Family. :P

And even then, it's iffy. There are plenty of gay Christian who'll tell you that there is ambiguity or just plain inaccuracy in the common translations of the Bible. For example, in Deuteronomy and Kings, the word qadesha is translated as 'temple prostitute', but its male form qadesh is commonly translated as 'sodomite', although this is disputed.
I'm a bit confused. Obviously the statement about gays is wrong, but what is he saying about black people? Taking away what the LA times guy interjected, I don't see where he's saying that black people were better off before civil rights. He says entitlement and welfare, but I dont get a racist impression. Maybe I'm missing something.

I just read the whole GQ article, what a goddamn read. I don't think he's a bad guy necessarily, just doesn't like gay people, but he's certainly not donning a KKK hood or anything.

He's undermining civil rights by claiming everything was dandy for blacks even under Jim Crow. Not racist, just ignorant and harmful to civil rights.

Didn't know that specifically but figured as much. Basically using the bible to bash it because they think it's gross.

You sure showed them, bud.
