brazil?
what the fuck, i've studied brazilian diplomatic relations reasonably extensively and this is the first time i hear of it
what the hell does any country want to do there anyway
Tourists mostly, And yes people actually tour there. And to keep close tabs on what they are up too / a safe spot for diplomats who need to be in NK for w/e reason
now this is just normal gun artillery ranges ...
don't get me start on how improved rocket artillery,
now I'm not questioning the state of most of those units,
so let's assume only 50% of those is operational to wartime use and 10% has the advanced ammo
and now here comes the catch, if you can't deliver enough of ordnance to target in first salvos
what you do?
you turn into chemical, thermo-baric, biological or nuclear warhead
now try guess which one is the cheapest ?
Let me tell you right now that every projection done on the DPRK has started with that initial artillery bombardment, and even with RAP they're coming up mostly short.

Their strength lies in gun artillery, but yeah, with rockets they could do a fair amount of damage before getting obliterated. Unfortunately for them, their movement capabilities are severely lacking, they'd lose most of their artillery capability early on.

Try 70-80% and 3% on those numbers, they take their artillery performance very seriously.

Chemical warfare is extremely cheap, but the DPRK would never, ever use it in an offensive role because the older generals are still alive and in power and are experienced enough to know the consequences. Wait until the population of generals gets younger, then you'll have a command staff willing to do absolutely crazy shit. Certain age groups in the DPRK have proven to be more delusional than others when it comes to their country and it's capabilities. Only the really old and really young seem to be largely skeptical, while the middle-aged grew up in a time where the propaganda was strong and thick.
Though if they start using nuclear shells then Seoul is in for a bad time, because a tactical nuke is still unbelievably destructive, and a salvo of them could utterly fucking wreck a major city.
I think you missed the NK upgrade program on the mobility
170mm SPG and rocket-arty got overhauled exactly due to those
it's pure speculation to argue about moral or what the old generals remember
if they get the order they would execute it or get executed ...
the only reason there is no conflict is that the leaders enjoy theirs wealth and power ;)
Oh my, that's pretty scary as hell

They have some Il-28 bombers too (their main strategic/tactical bomber) and there was a rumored program to upgrade those too with assistance from the brand new Russian Federation back in the early 90's. Either they upgraded a few or they just didn't do it at all, their financial situation is completely fucked so I find it difficult that all the scheduled upgrades of those artillery systems happened.
It's really hard to say what would happen, but for sure if they were attacking (or calling it retaliation in defense of the Motherland, either way) it's highly doubtful the generals would agree to chemical warfare. Resisting Kim Jong-un could be done if they all did it at the same time, he is not the only Kim and they could theoretically replace him.
They know the score, keeping the status quo is ideal for them, but if they were pressured I can see a limited amount of fighting happening, but I highly doubt they'd ever fully invade.
You know North Korea and Finland are only separated by one country?
You know North Korea and Finland are only separated by one country?
2, China and Russia.
edit: there is 1 like, 10km strip of border that connects directly to Russia, but the rest connects to China.
You know North Korea and Finland are only separated by one country?
Yes, the single largest country in the entire world, and they're at the other end of it with China in the way of the more direct route. That's like saying it takes longer to reach Greece from Germany than St. Petersburg to Vladivostok because you cross at least 6 countries.
