YIFY/ YTS shuts down forever - the end of a piracy icon: Popular torrent release group YIFY and its

Good riddance, some of the worst releases I've ever seen had been theirs. Once you make the jump to 4gb rips, you can never go back.
Aren't the vast majority of movies on Popcorn Time from YIFY?
Wonder where they'll get their movies from now.
As for if YIFY is good or not, they really aren't, but most of the time, you wouldn't notice that many imperfections unless you just stopped the movie and looked (except for the color issues). It's like people complaining about the occasional shitty art/animation in like 3 frames of an episode for an anime when everything else is relatively solid.
Popcorn Time shut down a few days ago anyway.

The website did, the software lives on just fine.
So who can i use as a good replacement now?
guess I'll have to find another site to base my research on
People who say yify is shit clearly don't understand what yify was all about.
It's clearly made for people who want to watch a quick movie on their laptop or tablet or cell phone. They are not meant to be used for your 8k and 7.1 surround home theater. These people watch it once and never watch it again. stop saying "good yify was shit" because you clearly dont understand what made these so popular to the average consumer.
YIFY was great when my download speed was still under 200kbps plus the collection they had was fantastic. Sad to see them go.

They could have filled that need without reencoding and bitstarving the video as much as they did.
You must have terrible vision and hearing then
Well, we can tell you weren't around int he age of Pirate VHS Tapes.
For an extra 300 MB you have a movie that doesn't have to drop its quality halfway through.
for people with internet like me, the extra 300MB means a whole extra day of downloading. if you have internet thats quick enough to not need compressed streams or downloads, good for you. not everyone shares that luxury
YIFY was shit. And those who defend them know absolutely nothing about good video. You're better off with getting a decent 720p encode, or even a freakin' transparent 480p encode.
For those who keep saying YIFY was shit.
YIFY wasn't targeted towards you.

If it takes you a day to download 300mb, it's time to switch providers or move elsewhere.
Too bad, most of the YIFY folk were quite nice

This is a stupid thing to say.

Truly was considering in most places in the U.S. our internet is held in a monopoly. We usually only have one company to choose in most places.
yify is literally worse than DVD, aka 1998 quality

stop being quality shamers

there is exactly 1 provider where i live
so clearly, the solution here is to relocate so i can download movies faster. ill just uproot my whole life for that.
[editline]31st October 2015[/editline]
better idea: ill just download smaller files. because im actually reasonable and realistic

just looked at flagdog. yeah, america isnt anything at all like the uk when it comes to internet. moving or choosing a new provider simply isnt an option. its century link or get lost
Whats a good alternative to them? I liked how their site organized new releases etc, made it easy to see new stuff

rarbg are a pretty good public one, they have multiple tiers of quality. But of course I wouldn't condone such a thing.

Link? I couldn't find it on google

whats that got to do with their quality being subpar

Oh no, you would have to wait a whole extra day for your free movie to have decent quality.
hot tip: instead of going with a 1080p bongrip, step down in resolution and get something with a decent bitrate.

youve got to be kidding me. people who use yify dont give a shit about quality, they just want to watch their god damn movie. nobody is going to want to wait another day so they can see every little detail they probably wouldn't have noticed even if they were watching a top tier quality rip.

I guess people shouldn't really wear glasses either if their eyesight isn't horrible.
quit being such a baby about quality, when i watch movies on my monitor i usually lay down on my bed far enough away for some of the detail to be lost anyway, having it be a step above dvd quality doesn't really make it a horrible experience.
You'd be better off watching a good DVD rip that get's upscaled through your player of choice ([sp]which is a WHOLE different topic[/sp]). YIFY is like listening to a "FLAC" rip that's really just a 128kps MP3 stuffed into a FLAC container.
Yify was great if you hadn't decided on anything and wanted to grab something in 2-3 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate high quality, 20gig rips through SVP are top, but I also appreciate the unparalleled convenience.
It will be missed

it's pretty dumb to call other people babies for being more interested in something than you are. clearly when you watch a movie you're just putting any old shit on because you're bored. not everyone is like you, and some people are extremely tentative and engaged when they're watching something.
it's also aside from the point anyway. YIFY rips could have been significantly better without being any bigger in file size.
