doesn't solve the problem of doom being a fucking maze filled with shit that will kill you at every turn
im glad FPS's moved away from the maze-like mazes that were built into every building
god i'm praising linearity
I thought experiencing slight disorientation and having to refer to your map was part of the experience.
That, and secrets hidden in walls. I hope they return those in doom four.

Here's a tip for you, most of the people who create content released to the public eye very likely have a differing ideology than yours, however extreme it may be.
Dissing someone's work because of their opinions is dumb.
I think people are hating brutal doom for the wrong reasons over here.
It has nothing to do with atmosphere why brutal doom gets a bad wrap from myself. It's the fact that Doom 1 and 2 has such solid and balanced gameplay that even if you stripped all the art assets from the game and kept the gameplay it would STILL be a fun game that feels rewarding if you have the skill and awareness to overcome the high pressure situations the game throws at you. Doom is to the FPS genre as to what Super Mario Bros 1. is for the platforming genre. It's such a simple game, way ahead of its time, with a lot of limitations that still holds up to it's day because of it's genius design on all aspects of it's gameplay. From movement physics, to balancing, to the extremely well thought out level design designed around the way the game works, etc.
Brutal Doom on the other hand while it is really fun and I don't absolutely hate it, is a unbalanced game full of really high powered weapons and enemies which adds an extreme chaos factor in which skill has less of a say if you can survive an area or not. It removes that simple beauty of Doom's gameplay, that kind of perfect balance that gives you a fighting chance even if you are somewhat low on ammo or health.
I guess what I am saying is, I don't mind if Doom 4 wants to become like Brutal Doom, but I just hope they just don't overthink the gameplay. They need to think on simple terms and then balance and polish the ever living fuck out of it.
ID Software has never had an issue with making games that are fun to play, their biggest flaw in the recent years has been everything surrounding that. Rage has really fun gameplay but having to walk/drive from place to place just to shoot people is a chore. Wolfenstein TNO fixed that issue by having only like 3 moments in the game where you're not directly shooting nazis.
Doom 4 is going to be fine as long as they don't overthink the story and atmosphere like they did with Doom 3.

Who's dissing Brutal Doom because the creator is a neo-nazi? Nobody cares I'm sure
i'm not saying he did but it probably did have even the smallest influence on id's decision to add them into doom.
Gore is the most logical decision given virtually every other game they make has always gone for adding more detailed gore. Melee finishers is a simple solution to giving the player a fair chance when up close/on low ammo.
I severely doubt they waited until Brutal Doom's success to consider these things, most of them would have been on the drawing board the minute they started work on Doom 4.
