It was, but Switch is a much, much better name for marketing this thing. I still weep for the loss of Revolution. Wii is still a stupid name.
This may sound dumb but they coul have named it the Nintendo Xwitch Kees the NX :v:
It kinda worries me that Nintendo are advertising their new console with Skyrim, a game that's nearly 5 years old at this point. It was the same thing with the WiiU, advertising their new console with a lineup of games from the previous gen, except Skyrim will be 2 generations behind the Switch. It doesn't exactly convince me they'll have strong 3rd party support.
Skyrim is still a pretty big name in the mainstream circle, and was the first Elder Scrolls game a lot of people played and got a lot of girls into gaming from what I learned back in high school. Having Skyrim on the Switch will bring a lot of market attention to it. That and while the graphics are not as powerful and stunning to today games that a Nintendo console can also go portable and still be able to play it is beyond impressive. I can't remember the last time I was so hyped for a Nintendo console.
Nah, the disappointment will set in eventually.
You are right. We all must be pessimistic every time all the time. Screw people who have hopes in something new. Im still curious how this can support wii u games when it only outputs one screen at a time

If it can play Skyrim there could be hope for a Fallout 4 port in the future. I may be getting too optimistic but I want to believe.

I don't think it plays Wii U games natively, but rather they're souped up ports. If Nintendo's benevolent, digital copies of games for the Wii U could theoretically be covered, but I doubt it.

I hope you can put the console standing like you would with the PS4 and Xbox
Looks like there's a little fan vent on the top
My Biggest complaint is sliding the tablet screen into the docking station. I am insanely protective of screens on all my devices and that just screams like a way to scratch them.
We still haven't asked arguably the most important question Is it solely cartridge based?
I hope you can put the console standing like you would with the PS4 and Xbox
I think it was standing in the trailer before the dude turned it portable.
POWERED BY NVIDIA https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/10/20/nintendo-switch/
I bet it's using some variant of the new Tegra Parker SOC.
My Biggest complaint is sliding the tablet screen into the docking station. Skyrim is still fantasy violence and shooting an arrow at a dragon in the trailer is definitely easier on all audience then fallout guns. I also really hope we get FROM SOFTWARE dark souls games on the portable.
With Nvidia's ideas, software and tech powering it this is more a next generation Nvidia Shield than a new Nintendo console. Nvidia and Nintendo partnering closely like this is a HUGE deal for gaming. Think about the Nintendo Playstation in the 90s, well, we now have Nintendo Nvidia.
99% sure that was just Mario Kart 8.
the UI is different, as are the shader effects
I'm going to assume that the battery life will last for around 3 hours or so if constantly playing a game, lower than that would be quite ridiculous.
I think that we'll see some sort of battery pack of sorts, because there are going to be people who would never take it out of the house, while some people who might rarely play it at home.
I think it was standing in the trailer before the dude turned it portable.
I meant horizontal, sorry

They clearly weren't getting far on their own with the Wii U.
This may sound dumb but they coul have named it the Nintendo Xwitch Kees the NX :v:
"Buy our new Nintendo K'SSSUITCH"
Some people think this exceeds their expectations massively, while some people think it's unexpected or bad? Give us some insight to your thoughts, I've no idea what you were expecting.
To be honest, coming from someone who expected nothing, it's just kinda average. A truly portable co-op machine is interesting and I could definitely see myself taking it around to a friends place like "hey wanna play a few games of whatever", but the rest of what it can do just isn't that exciting IMO.
The WiiSwitch
I wonder how Switch Animal Crossing is gonna be like?
I hope they go above and beyond for the Switch's Animal Crossing. There's just so many good features that would be amazing for the Animal Crossing series, it'd be disappointing if they did what they did with City Folk and called it good.
I hope to see a proper friends system and UI that doesn't revolve around Mii's Idk, I never particularly liked that.
If the price is acceptable I might even consider buying one at launch. I'm sold on it unless something drastic happens.

The rest of it is that it's just a new Nintendo game console, what else do you need?
And what exactly is supposed to be exciting about the rest of it? I have no special attachment to any of their major series or anything, so I'm just judging the console itself. Which essentially seems to be a Shield or something that comes with two controllers for on-the-go co-op. [editline]21st October 2016[/editline]
For me, the tossing of the region locked system and getting a lot of developers on boards that weren't before for at least a game is something worth celebrating, even if we don't know battery life and price point.
Did they say they were getting rid of region locking? I haven't checked out the announcement video thoroughly so I may have missed that, if they did fucking finally, now I won't have to wait ~6 months before I can play games like SMT4 anymore.
This console looks DOA to me. It's an ARM chip that's slower than the XBox One, so every current AAA game developer will not only have to optimize their games more, they'll also have to port the entire thing over to ARM instructions just for Nintendo. If it's the Tegra X1, it's the same performance level as my Google Pixel (Which I can strap to my face for VR) If it's the Tegra X2, it's not fast enough in comparison to matter much for them. Why can't Nintendo just compete?
