Uh haha what SNES was more versatile than Genesis N64 was way more powerful than PS1 or Saturn Gamecube was more powerful than Dreamcast or PS2 You wot
https://thesolidstategamer.wordpress.com/2014/07/18/playstation-versus-n64-a-hardware-analysis/ I don't pretend to be an expert on these things so I default to the words of those who do seem like experts. It may have been "ahead" but it wasn't that clear cut apparently. But hey I can be wrong [editline]20th October 2016[/editline]
But a gimmick isn't by default a "cheap" trick, it's simply a trick. Something new exciting or different to draw the eye to whatever you're selling, and this is definitely that.
A gimmick is defined by it's quality in many contexts. A low quality thing that attracts attention to a product is a gimmick. A high quality thing that attracts attention to a product is a feature.
Uh haha what SNES was more versatile than Genesis N64 was way more powerful than PS1 or Saturn Gamecube was more powerful than Dreamcast or PS2 You wot
Lets be fair though, Nintendo has never made it their philosophy to build a console purely and only around the idea of being "powerful". So even if a console was stronger than another brand of its time, they never really intend to make them around power, not alone at least. [editline]20th October 2016[/editline] They focus far more on usability and optimization, if anything.
yep, i was disappointed thanks for trying nintendo
You're obviously just not who they had this in mind for. I'm not exactly sure what you were expecting. A PS4 clone?
I never got peoples issues with the nintendo consoles being underpowered or anything, the games that they put out look fucking gorgeous regardless
Uh haha what SNES was more versatile than Genesis N64 was way more powerful than PS1 or Saturn Gamecube was more powerful than Dreamcast or PS2 You wot
I mean, it's also worth noting that in all your listed cases the Nintendo version was released at least a year after the others in a time of pretty rapid advancement in the games in dustry. In the case of Gamecube v Dreamcast and SNES v Genesis, more than 2 full years.

hey honestly it looks pretty cool i really dig the design and the compact thing it got Playing an AAA game in my toilet? Fucking Yes dude! Playing on console at work? Fuck yes dude! the wii U wasn't that interesting but this one got me pretty much can't wait to see the price + specs and maybe be disappointed.
According to this IGN article the docking station is... just a docking station. It powers the device and connects to the TV. No external GPU or anything to give it more juice. Nintendo also didn't want to comment if the screen is touch sensitive or not. Plus my guess would be that the Pro controller will be sold separately like the WiiU one and you only get the detachable ones.
Nintendo continued: "The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/10/20/nintendo-confirms-amiibo-support-for-nintendo-switch-clarifies-additional-features
Holy fuck, why are normal tablets not as powerful as this little thing then?

Looks cool. The commercial kind of makes me happy. It's like Nintendo realized that most of their fans are grown ups who want both Nintendo games as well as mainstream third party games. No grandmas, no gimmicky controllers. Just a console that's great in the living room, albeit also fantastic for mobility.

It even has a TV docking station.

I've never been an early adopter for consoles - the Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U I all picked up several years into their life. Heck, I only bought my Wii U last year (on Cyber Monday so I guess it was a little less than a year ago). The biggest problem I have with Nintendo's launches is that they rarely have the heavy-hitter games out at launch. Smash, Kart, Mario typically take a little while to come out, and by that point there's been a price drop or bundle (which is where I come in). They showed new Splatoon, Mario Kart, and Super Mario in the trailer so I'm interested to see when those are coming out. March seems like an odd time for launch (missing the holiday season by a full quarter) but we'll see by then.
Not really. When I think tablet, I think touch screen. The screen on the Switch probably isn't touch capable. It would be pretty dumb to have games that use a touch screen when it would be docked most of the time.
It is.
...how is this thing going to be capable of any sort of power?
Nintendo are fucking wizards with Nvidia on their side, that's how.
...how is this thing going to be capable of any sort of power?
The new Pascal Architecture is supposed to allow a mobile graphics card to match a full desktop card in power to about 90-95%. Any dedicated graphics card using Pascal would easily be enough. But it's likely to run the new Tegra Parker or Nvidia Xavier chips, which are basically all-in-one mobile cards. An older version of the Tegra (X1) was used to power the Nvidia Shield, for instance.
Well this isn't just Skyrim, it's the Special Edition, which sort of ran up the system requirements due to the new version of the engine and all.
We don't know if it'll be cut down in any way or what quality settings the switch version will be running at, but it's kind of irrelevant either way. The point is that powerful tablets is not a new concept and in virtually every way this thing is a nintendo version of the edge.
Bethesda won't even confirm it was Skyrim so who knows if it's even going to be a game for the system
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-10-20-nintendo-switch-nx-games-specs-release-date According to Eurogamer the NX wont have compatibility with the Wii U That's shitty....
S/NES editions look awesome. Although, the back stand for the NX looks super cheap and flimsy. You can see the stand bend very easily :|
Bethesda won't even confirm it was Skyrim so who knows if it's even going to be a game for the system
Oh wow really? It was super shitty of them to include it in the reveal if it's not a title they're even sure you can play. I looked up Bethesda statement so I might as well post it here for anyone else curious:
"While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future.
I don't think they'll flat out lie about it, but it could just be placeholder
S/NES editions look awesome. Although, the back stand for the NX looks super cheap and flimsy. You can see the stand bend very easily :|
Buy a case for it then. Otherwise it's in the dock so it's not an issue.

That means that unless they do something (like a free version or discounts) for those who owned Wii U games digitally on their Nintendo account, any 'ports' are probably separate products that'll have to be bought again.
It'll take me a whole 3 days to lose one of the controllers
that looks like double dash
There seems to be only one driver and Mario seems to be using a bike, which I don't think were in that. The course looks like Double Dash's Yoshi Circuit, but that's available as DLC for Mario Kart 8. Just about everything looks like MK8 in fact, minus the double items and the map in the middle (which might just be an option). [editline]21st October 2016[/editline]
Course is Yoshi Circuit from MKDD, but that was in MK8 King Boo, however, was not a character, even in the DLC. That's MarioKart 9 right there.
If it's a test/development version of 9 based on 8 then that would explain the similar HUD.
