It's in the video for 1 second, and I can't see it bend, so how can you [editline]20th October 2016[/editline] Yeah I saw that earlier and it's a bit disconcerting. I don't think they'll flat out lie about it, but it could just be placeholder
Why would they confirm portable skyrim on the eve of their remaster coming out? It would hurt their sales if people just held out for it on the Switch. I'm almost certain it'll eventually come to the Switch, but they're not going to confirm it 5 months before the console comes out and miss out on people buying it now.
cool nintendo switch :D
Why would they confirm portable skyrim on the eve of their remaster coming out? It would hurt their sales if people just held out for it on the Switch.
I really doubt that's their concern in anyway shape or form
So it's literally just a tablet.
Leakers are saying the dock does have some processing power, this comes from people who accurately predicted the console features. However, all the main processing is done on the tablet. All Nintendo is saying is that this isn't another Wii U where the processing was done on the box and video was streamed to the gamepad.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-10-20-nintendo-switch-nx-games-specs-release-date According to Eurogamer the NX wont have compatibility with the Wii U That's shitty....
The Wii U had a Power PC processor, Switch uses ARM. PowerPC is really old and made by IBM who doesn't even make processors for consumer devices any more (except for the Wii U). And PowerPC is no way suitable for running off a battery. ARM is now more popular than even x86 and is used mostly on battery powered devices. Nintendo had virtually no choice if they didn't want to use obsolete tech.
I really doubt that's their concern in anyway shape or form
I dunno, portable Skyrim is a pretty alluring selling point to people. Especially going by the reactions to it being shown on the first look video.
I doubt people would really hold off on buying a remaster because there's a costlier option
They'd just buy it again.
Because this is an inch thick and has an air vent
That's the main reason I'm not too concerned about battery life either. Batteries have come a long way due to phone miniaturisation, and this probably has more room for that too due to the higher thickness/screen size ratio. The controller parts have batteries too, but I wonder if makes sense to try to use that to improve the overall charge significantly.

They would have to add a disc drive and wireless between the tablet and dock. The wireless would have to be capable of both streaming the disc contents to the tablet AND streaming a video signal back to the dock, which is a lot. Streaming a 1080p 60 fps signal wirelessly with low enough latency for games is already a huge feat.

It would be in the hands of developers to recompile their games, but this should make it just about trivial to get them to run on the new hardware without the efficiency cost of true emulation. Then again, Microsoft made a 360 emulator for XBone, so either way is probably viable. (The XBone and 460 don't have nearly as many architectural and other hardware differences though, afaik.)

And for Wii emulation they would still have to provide some way to power a Wii sensor bar.
I'm interested, but what will really sell me on this is the line up of launch titles and price. That new Mario game they showed off has my interest, and I haven't cared about Mario since Galaxy 1.
It makes sense that they didn't go with discs, because discs don't go well with portability. If the disc is spinning and you turn the handheld in some direction, conservation of angular momentum easily leads to scratches on the disc.
That new Mario game they showed off has my interest, and I haven't cared about Mario since Galaxy 1.
You've missed out
You've missed out
Depends. Mario Galaxy 2 is really good, but it definitely goes into a different direction from the first one. It's a much more arcadey game in comparison, and the difficulty is much higher (but that's definitely a matter of taste).
That Skyrim better be the one with mods, since mobile modded skyrim sounds amazing to me

If they stick a decent sized hard drive it'd let it hold a lot. Most likely though there's a larger hard drive in the docking station, and a smaller SSD in the tablet.
Galaxy 2 is perfection
I guess this makes sense to have both console and handheld VC games on, doesn't it? :v:

It's most likely really just power + USB hub + HDMI out.
That Skyrim better be the one with mods, since mobile modded skyrim sounds amazing to me
If it is I hope Nintendo are not as restrictive as Sony when it comes to mods
Not necessarily, the game may be loaded entirely into the RAM, or just running a game installed directly to the console itself.
pretty sure Nintendo confirmed that the dock is literally just for HDMI out and charging the unit
tbh I like Super Mario 3D World much more than both of the Galaxy games I just think it's a sharper game overall, it feels a lot more like it takes every single good element from all of the best Mario games and combines it into one big package of end-to-end fun. I'd argue level design-wise it's one of Nintendo's best games ever. Plus the soundtrack is one of their best live performance soundtracks they've ever done for a Mario game. In my opinion Galaxy's general lack of whimsy in most of its soundtrack made it feel distinctly ill-fitting for a Mario game compared to 3D World which has a soundtrack chock full of fun and very strongly calling upon the feel of the best compositions in the 2D Mario games without being a rehash. Galaxy 2 was a bit better compositionally on feeling very 'Mario' but it doesn't reach 3D World's levels, I feel. That mindset of classic Mario-style fun and charm above all else while still being fresh and new extends to the entirety of the game and is one of the reasons why I like 3D World so much. 3D Land is meh though
From what I've seen so far I agree, though I don't have a Wii U so I can't play it. I really hope it will run on the NX.
pretty sure Nintendo confirmed that the dock is literally just for HDMI out and charging the unit
They said the bulk of the processing will be on the main console. It also as USB ports, which can connect more storage to it with.
That Skyrim better be the one with mods, since mobile modded skyrim sounds amazing to me
skyrim isnt confirmed tho http://www.gamespot.com/articles/skyrim-not-confirmed-for-nintendo-switch-despite-a/1100-6444660/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
One of the few third-party games that appeared during the announcement video of Nintendo's new console, the Switch, was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Despite what you might assume, that doesn't actually mean you'll ever be able to play Skyrim on the system. "We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video," a Bethesda spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz. "While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future." Bethesda previously said developing games for what was known at the time as the NX was "definitely something [it] will look at."
Wow Nintendo's taking a huge gamble showing Skyrim on their teaser trailer with no guarantee on getting it. That totally won't blow up in their face :v:
