Completely irrelevant post unless the pro controller attaches to the side, the main gimmick is being able to pick up the tablet and go - a tablet you have to sit awkwardly on your lap while holding a gamepad is not a good system
It was pretty blatant in the trailer that the Joycons have a lot of tug to them to avoid them falling out
Most of the people in the trailer had to wiggle it a bit to get it to come out

Hopefully they'll add a physical lock so it doesn't have a chance to slip due to wear and tear from use.

Given that it's literally the primary feature of the device I highly doubt that they won't engineer the hell out of it.
Well, this could be revolutionary in my opinion.
IF this gimmick works, it could easily launch Nintendo back in to the forefront, have devs clamoring to make games for it, and result in a shift in how console gaming [I]works[/I] in general. I'd be surprised if Microsoft and Sony don't have an equivalent out in some years if it works.
I think it'll really depend on two factors; the battery life, and the specs. If they have those good enough then they have it in the bag. Hell, I'll buy one.

The thing about the Wii U was that it was playing catch-up with what was relevant at the time (at the time, it was the PS3/360), and in the case of the Switch, it seems as if they're trying to be on par with the PlayStation 4/Xbox One. I dunno if they should've gone for a traditional home console that is capable of running The Witcher 3 on Ultra @ 2160p30. At least with a system that powerful, it should be able to hold its own against the PlayStation 5, albeit in 720p.

It's not about raw power, it's about the architecture. Wii U was running on powerpc architecture which was dated when it came out and made porting software to it a nightmare, hence no third party support.
Due to the tegra gpu the Switch runs on x86 architecture which is the same as PC, PS4, and xbone making developing for the switch as a third party much easier and much more profitable.
Also some of the big third party names have already said they enjoy what the system brings to the table so i'm pretty sure at the absolute worst it'll still have far more third party support than the wii u.
The switch runs on ARM because of the tegra GPU. The architecture has little to do with how easy it is to port something.

I feel like it's because the console wars have entrenched this idea of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all duking it out with each other into people's minds, and they can't get their heads around the fact that it's more like Microsoft and Sony wrestling each other while Nintendo and PC are far away, not even playing the same sport.

its so obvious that they would never do this like why would you even suggest that
even if they did they'd still have to play catch up. They already own the mobile console market, and this offers something different than xbox/ps. they're basically going with what everyone else needs to catch up to them on and combining it into a home console.
that, and only a gtx 1080, maybe a little less than that, can really do witcher truly maxed out in 4k. So you'd have an unbelievably pointless console that would cost far more than current gen and not only that, but have no games, something the current gen still needs years on.

Maybe if you're using extremely common architectures and operating systems, but it's naive to think that supporting a custom game console OS on a relatively unused architecture is the same as ticking arm based android or x86 based windows in something like unity. Sometimes serious work has to go into optimizing performance as well, which matters here considering any ports from ps4/xbo would likely have to be tweaked due to weaker hardware.
Best case scenario is devs designing games that take advantage of the mobile/stationary gimmick and possibly the portable local co-op business. IMO ports won't go over well because they'll likely be downgraded versions as they were in previous cases.

I really hope someone makes an adapter for it. I've ALWAYS wanted a 1 handed controller that I can use my mouse with. Joystick + Mouse controls.

the pro u controller has an 80 hour battery life, AND its rechargable. This is better than anything else out there really. Those 2 tiny wireless controllers I imagine are likely separately charged but likely have an asinine long lifespan.

Optimization is another story that is still heavily dependent on the OS at times. The problems don't stem from the differing architecture but instead the differing OSes and APIs; rendering APIs typically being the biggest difference.

You hold this thing by the controllers on the sides and the CPU/GPU is in the middle part with the screen, it shouldn't be a problem. The 3Ds is hold directly by the case where all the processing is done, so it gets warm.

Microsoft already has the Surface tablet that runs full Windows and you can play whatever you want on it, including Skyrim. You can connect it to TV and use Xbox controller to play on your couch. Plus with Xbox Play Anywhere and their new PC interest you get even their Xbox titles. Yeah, it is 5 times more expensive than what Switch will probably be, but it already does basically the same things as Switch, plus a ton more.
Oh, and that mario games seriously look like a new Mario 64. I recognize those triple jumps and long jumps, and his walking animation.
It really looks like that Unreal engine 4 demo on youtube and i suspect it was made on the unreal engine 4.

Does someone have information about the market share of Nintendo right now? I want to check what happened after the reveal, probably not much until launch, but I still want to check it out.
