is this a joke?

What's stupid about it? No really, I want to know why people think this concept is stupid because it seems pretty damn solid to me. Besides "i don't care about it being a handheld", anyway.

so uhh.. like one hour battery life when out and about? yeah it looks cool but it's literally impossible by physical laws for it to work good, same with performance
If it's designed so that games have a PC-style "medium" setting for the handheld mode plus a lower resolution you could certainly give it a slightly less pitiful battery life.
I dunno, the concept of playing large scale console games on the go like Skyrim and a huge fucking open world Zelda doesn't seem very tempting, with massive games like that I kinda want to be at home sitting down and ready to take in everything the game's gonna throw at me. I've always preferred handheld titles to be smaller and lighter games that I can play real quick in my downtime. It's not that I feel like I'd need to play them on the go, don't get me wrong I know I don't need to take the console with me, but man they are gonna oversell the shit out of this concept.
is this a joke?
Some people think this exceeds their expectations massively, while some people think it's unexpected or bad? Give us some insight to your thoughts, I've no idea what you were expecting.
REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 20, 2016 – In an introductory video released today (http://www.nintendo.com/switch), Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles. At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment. Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition. “Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.” Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows: 505 Games Activision Publishing, Inc. ARC SYSTEM WORKS Co., Ltd. ATLUS CO., LTD. The only downside I see so far is that this: Looks pretty uncomfortable. And playing with two people on the tiny screen will probably be bad. But even then I guess it's fine enough in a pinch.
On the note of the battery, it would hardly surprise me to see someone (heck, even nintendo might), make an optional external battery of some form. Otherwise, quite interested.
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CvN3KwqUsAAfLEk.jpg:large[/t]
THQ is back? I feel like i've missed something important...
Oh my god, I might be excited for a console again. Nintendo have done it, they've created a console-handheld hybrid, the absolute madmen.
THQ is back? I feel like i've missed something important...
nordic rebranded into thqnordic
Guys? King Boo wasn't in MK8.
I want to get as excited for this as everyone else seems to be, but I'm seeing a lot of practicality problems. It's at least got my attention more than the Wii U did.
THQ is back? I feel like i've missed something important...
Nordic games rebranded themselves as THQ Nordic a few months back.
THQ is back? I feel like i've missed something important...
NORDIC changed their name with the aquired THQ assets. Destroy All Humans! 2 got confirmed for a PS4 port a few days ago and more new games are on the way.
Guys? King Boo wasn't in MK8.
that looks like double dash
Might be able to have quick diy grassroot tournaments with this
I've seen people playing smash 4 using the WiiU tablet for a screen before
new mario looks like they might finally be doing super mario 64 level design again though it's hard to tell
nordic rebranded into thqnordic
Didnt't know,thanks.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/uxkLkpV.png[/t] And look, there it is. You can tell Nintendo to fuck off with motion controls and portables and other stuff and just use the Dualshockers clone controller.
What's wrong with motion controls? There's some amazing games that would not have been made without them. Example: Trauma Centre.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/uxkLkpV.png[/t] And look, there it is. You can tell Nintendo to fuck off with motion controls and portables and other stuff and just use the Dualshockers clone controller.
No thanks, I'd rather not have another genericbox 3 on the market, and rather see Nintendo try to do new and innovative things (even if it doesn't always pan out)
The only downside I see so far is that this: Looks pretty uncomfortable. And playing with two people on the tiny screen will probably be bad.
new mario looks like they might finally be doing super mario 64 level design again though it's hard to tell
it could be just a tech demo but I don't think they wanna risk it after the wii u "zelda showcase" thing that looked nothing like breath of the wild
With the way the guy is holding the controllers in the airplane I wonder if the separate controllers could possibly be used as nunchucks?
Im not sure if it will sell as well as the PS4 or Xbox One, but surely itll sell better and enjoy more players than the Wii U I might buy this alongside a PS4 in the future if I can afford it
new mario looks like they might finally be doing super mario 64 level design again though it's hard to tell
I would so love this.
that looks like double dash
Course is Yoshi Circuit from MKDD, but that was in MK8 King Boo, however, was not a character, even in the DLC. That's MarioKart 9 right there.
I want to get as excited for this as everyone else seems to be, but I'm seeing a lot of practicality problems. It's at least got my attention more than the Wii U did.
I'm waiting for the caveat, because I remember them focusing entirely on the WiiU tablet and completely forgetting to talk about the console itself, leading people to think the tablet was the console.
