• Italian Anti-Mafia Judge : "The pope's life is in danger, the Mafia want to kill him."

Unfortunately coming from Calabrian descent I have met some members from a cosche. At first they seem like kind people, I fucking loved all the free food they gave my brother and I, also my aunt had a car drive by her house every night just to make sure she was safe. Once you really get to know these people though you learn how they prioritize money over everything. I know that the italian counterpart is definitely waaay more aggressive than any family in northern jersey. How they would target the pope is no surprise as he poses a threat to one of their more profitable businesses. Any form of organized crime is absolutely horrible. It is especially horrible on most of the people in vows with the family. Associates are usually fucked or fuck up and when they fuck up the soldiers usually fuck them up and since the soldiers should have been preventing associates from fucking up the soldier usually gets fucked up by the capo. It is a never ending chain of people fucking each other up and, basically, all for money. All organized crime is absolutely horrible and more often fucks up the people in it than it helps them.
I doubt it. Everyone knows who these mob bosses are. If they did anything people would be at their houses with pitchforks and tourches.
No, not really. You guys are greatly overestimating the religious sentiment of Italians, and underestimating what this scum is capable of. Italian mafiosi unfortunately are not your average gang. They are more than willing to bomb train stations and museums (and they did) to get their point across. They gunned down an entire peaceful protest and melted more than one kid in acid and you think people who lived in fear of these criminals all their life are going to rebel because they killed the Pope? I know the PM, I even went to a conference of his. He's very passionate about what he does, and while I respect him immensely for risking his life every day, he's somewhat paranoid (who wouldn't be in his situation) and sees mafia conspiracies everywhere.
Sounds like the plot to an 90's action movie, still just to be safe we better call Arnold Schwarzenegger, failing that Sylvester Stallone, failing that John Claude Van Damme, failing that Blast Hardcheese, failing that Steven Seagal and failing that a large marshmallow with eyes...
By being smarter than all the other criminals.
By taking out the guy above you.
Good luck ever stopping whatever the ndrangheta wants to do. I read not long ago that it is deemed to be the most influential mafia in the world today. However, I call bullshit on the article. Mafias today are based not only on violence, but also on subtlety. Killing a sipitual leader is not exactly what you could call subtle.

We wouldn't even know if it was serious or not because, as you say, it'd be one of those things that comes back to bite you in the ass and that their actual plans could be something else entirely .

The Italian Mafia is terrifying. The owner of an Italian restaurant in my town was in it when he was younger and when he wanted out they left empty shell casings outside his door, so he got himself and his family out of the country. That was 20 years ago and I'm pretty sure he still looks across his shoulder even now.

They do that, they're fucked. Simple as that. No mafia family, no matter how powerful, would dare to harm someone so loved as this guy. Not only would the entirety of Italy's law forces crack down on them but most likely Interpol would come and help too. And they would not give up until the family is done for. Seriously this Pope is too awesome please don't harm him.

I can't imagine the public outrage if such a plan would to succeed. Most organized crime acts in the shadows and subtle, killing such an iconic figure for a world religion would just tear them apart. Furthermore I think this would also increase the tensions inside the mafia family and cause all kinds of trouble internally.

When an associate enters the Family, during the course of the ritual, they basically swear the crime Family over everything else, even their own family and disregarding their Family usually leads to them getting fucked. The fact he got out is incredible as generally leaving is practically impossible in most cases. They try to mask it with bullshit "men of honor" titles but their only purpose is to make money. With that being said, when any of their businesses are threatened they will kill who ever is responsible, they do not care who you are, if you threaten their income (especially cocaine as how much money it brings in) they will get rid of you. Simple as that. These are horrible people
Someone better call the Boondock Saints.
