I have no doubt in my mind that hl3 will be coming with source 2
Can you blame them? Ep2 ended in a huge cliffhanger to a great series.
Valve has the greatest, but cruelest PR people in the universe.
Valve has probably been more focused on their pet projects like the TF2 Economy, Dota, etc on top of the team that is focused on the development of Source 2. If HL3 has not progressed it surely will as Source 2 wraps up development.
A new Half-life game will come eventually, just not yet.
Anyone have that video of the supposed hl3/source 2 leak with that bat-things flying around?
Anyone have that video of the supposed hl3/source 2 leak with that bat-things flying around?
Wasn't a leak, it was part of a demo reel by an employee. And I doubt Valve would allow an employee to release HL3 stuff.

I've not given up on Half Life and i never will till i see the next installment but i just tell myself the truth and it comforts me knowing this, The game is being made, it was originally planned to be released but Valve delayed it and decided to release it on a new engine ( Source 2 flagship game imo ) showing a whole new level of in game physics and interactivity and really showcasing what the new engine will be able to do in terms of pushing the games industry forward like HL2 did so many years ago, it's gone from being and episodic content to a full on game, so there's gonna be delays and such no doubt.
Valve are just waiting for anyone who played episode 2 to die off so they can release episode 3 with no expectations
I swear, HL3 probably has one of the most desperate fanbases out there.
There hasn't been a single bad game in the series and we've been left on a cliffhanger. Of course we're ancy for the next game.
Half Life 3 proves that the best advertising is none at all.
Was this it?
Its from a guys portfolio who used to work at valve, and people presume its from the space game they canceled.
There is also a small reference in their official employee's handbook on around page 20 released in 2012.
That image very subtly alludes to the guy who works on HL3 going home, shaving, and then quitting work on HL3 to work on Portal instead.
I swear, HL3 probably has one of the most desperate fanbases out there.
I think you're confusing genuine hype for hl3 for the fake hype meme culture has created. Genuine hype is the kind you see in this thread, "I think they'll release it after source 2, probably bundle it together with a few other games like last time." The fake hype is when the dota 2 patch notes say, "Patch 6.85 terrorblade nerfed, ult can no longer switch damage enemy to below 50% hp." and then someone immediately posts on reddit, "6-8+5=3, the post also mentioned terrorblade can only swap to 50% hp? 50%? Half? hp? life? HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The second kind is a joke, not fans actually being THAT desperate for the next installment.
Well it's been a while, we can only hope hl3 is good.
Well, that certainly didn't work for Duke Nukem Forever.
Well, that certainly didn't work for Duke Nukem Forever.
Dont compare DNF and HL3. The only similarity between the two is the long wait for them, and Valve has a history of that. (TF2) DNF's dev cycle was so hilariously fucked up and stupid its ridiculous, Valve isnt that incompetent.
Judging how they've been handling the development of the Steambox and every game that isn't DotA 2 lately, I'd argue on that "Valve isn't that incompetent" bit. I half-suspect they've lost their spark.
The people who where developing the game for 12 years, got suid by the company that owned the publishing rights, and then lost control over the development of the title. After which it ended up being made in a very short time-span by Gearbox Software.
Even so, I still don't trust Valve. They're hardly the same company they were in 2007. As they've grown bigger, they've become more and more prone to cut corners, give players the silent treatment, make questionable decisions, and generally take the easiest route to the biggest buck. That rag-tag team of mad scientists and graduated modders that everyone still seems to think they are doesn't exist anymore. They're just another bumbling, billion-dollar monolith of a company nowadays. If I hadn't already known, I'd be surprised if you were to tell me they were still privately-traded, because they conduct themselves just like all the other "AAA" investor-slaves these days.
I don't see it, what are some of the things that they did so well back then, that they don't do anymore? The only real example i can think off, is that the quality of TF2 updates declined a lot (although not anywhere near the amount as the "TF2 is the worst game ever now, omg what have you done valve" people make you believe) In the meanwhile, they ported their products to Linux/Mac, crowd funding of CS:GO and Dota 2 tournaments, and the Workshop involvement for customizables for these games. They opened up steam publishing to indie games through greenlight. The customizability of Dota 2/Source 2 in the Dota 2 Developer Tools Alpha seems very promising, and is supposed to go live this March. And its not like they haven't done a lot of "huh?" things, like their push towards hardware (SteamBox, Controller, and VR) which haven't really shown much result. But they aren't even remotely close to what you could consider "Evil" or "Just another AAA Company", or in any way profitable or even aimed to be more profitable then the shit they released in the past. EDIT: I am just curious what here is perceived as "cut corners". "questionable decisions" and "easiest route to the biggest buck" And what they did in 2007 that was so amazing, that they don't do anymore.
I'll always have faith in Gaben.
It might just be me, but I think a new Day of Defeat would actually be a great game to showcase Source 2 with. It'll never happen though.
Half life 3 is not being made.
I found it stupid how Valve been toying around with Half Life 3. Just get it over and done with for fucks sake.
I found it stupid how Valve been toying around with Half Life 3. Just get it over and done with for fucks sake.
my guess first Source 2 gane.
The chance of Valve returning to singleplayer games is as likely as Naughty Dog returning to cartoony non-cinematic games.
The chance of Valve returning to singleplayer games is as likely as Naughty Dog returning to cartoony non-cinematic games.
Shit thanks for depressing me. That's sad. Very sad.
Have we even heard anything from Gabe in the last year?
Every time half life 3 is mentioned I know I am getting older
