Why would anyone want a half life film which focuses on the war that happened after the game? There's so many forgettable CGI alien vs human war films that you could just watch one of those and pretend it's the Combine.
It's like how people want a First Contact War ME game. I'll never understand people's obsession seeing uneventful footnotes in backstories with foregone conclusions that don't advance the setting.
With JJ at the helm, this will at least be a decent film. Which is more than I can say for EVERY OTHER video game movie ever made
While I understand a lot of the pessimism surrounding this, I'm actually pretty cautiously optimistic. I've been following the trickle of news about a possible portal and half life movie, and I'm pretty enthused with the idea just because I never thought it was something I'd see. It's not like JJ Abrams is a horrible director, either. It may also get the ball rolling for an increased public interest in half life, especially if he's actually going to follow up with his claims to make a half life movie. A neat angle to take might be to make a portal/half life hybrid movie, focusing on a side character to bridge the two universes.
Why are people so pessimistic about this? In all likelihood the movies will take place in the setting, not actually be adaptions of the stories in the games.

I have a feeling they already have a few ideas brewing for how to project their games into movie format.
Make the Portal movie about Doug Rattman.
I don't want any of this. What happened to "Oh if there's ever going to be a Half Life or Portal movie then we'd be doing it ourselves."
I can see him doing a 7 hour war focused movie. Portal just doesn't seem like it would work.
Holy shit I'd love to watch a Half-Life mini-series about the 7 hour war from beginning to end
There was an interactive teaser for Super 8 in Portal 2.
When TFA released I also pointed out the design of this robot seemed familiar, but people dismissed it as coincidence. At least we know for certain he's interested in Portal now, so it's still possible.
Portal: Mortal Consequences. The main character will be Mell, Chell's sister.
If by making this means news on HL3 then fine by me
Can't wait for a movie where man eats beans in ventilation shafts.
If by making this means news on HL3 then fine by me
Why would it mean news on HL3?
It's like how people want a First Contact War ME game. I'll never understand people's obsession seeing uneventful footnotes in backstories with foregone conclusions that don't advance the setting.
I love sidenote stories. My dream next Mass Effect game was the one some people thought was going to happen where it's a detective noir on the Citadel during the events of Mass Effect. My favorite stories don't inovlve saving the world or meeting main characters, I love side stories. with that said, stuff like the First Contact War is just sorta eh. It's all in the past, you know where it goes, and the war didn't really have that much happen. Most of the battles were done quickly through overwhelming force (Turians wipe out Human forces, sit around, Human forces wipe out Turians, war ends) and wouldnt make a great story.
Why would it mean news on HL3?
What better opportunity would be there for announcing a new game than a movie set in that game's universe? Maybe a small hint or something along those lines.
Portal: Mortal Consequences. The main character will be Mell, Chell's sister.
"Mell Portal who was Chell Portal sister was one day in office typing on computer. She got an email from sister that said aliens and monsters were attacking her place and aksed her for help so she went, to the roof where she left motorcycle and normal people close, and say 'its time for me to live up to my family name and face Mortal Consequences' and went." [editline]a [/editline] Robbed Sonichu & Coldsteel of an Oscar imo
What better opportunity would be there for announcing a new game than a movie set in that game's universe? Maybe a small hint or something along those lines.
Eh, I wouldn't count on it.
Eh, I wouldn't count on it.
you're right valve would pass on a golden time.
Portal: Mortal Consequences. The main character will be Mell, Chell's sister.
Half Life: Full Life Consequences?
He likes Half-Life. There were a few references to it in Lost (or was it Alias?) I think him and Gabe are friends too.
Did you know there's a direct reference to HL2 ep2 in NCIS? Season 4 in the episode 'Dead Reckoning' a ship named the Borealis goes mysteriously missing along with its crew. Interesting stuff.
Eh, I wouldn't count on it.
i wouldn't count on an announcement inside the movie, but i don't doubt that the potential hype from the movie could push the game further along in development
Maybe have it set right at the time Glados goes ape shit and make the protagonist some random scientist? We get a bit of lore and a new character that doesn't affect the main games in anyway whatsoever.
My money's on it being directed by Dan Trachtenberg, since he did this: which got him his job directed 10 Cloverfield Lane.
I see he was ready to take the snowdog challenge
you're valve/steam would pass an golden time,.
what
Just so you guys know, there is a character called Mel in this side game for portal called Portal Stories: Mel. It's also really good and I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles. I actually need to play the co-op of that game however.
Eh, I wouldn't count on it.
Why wouldnt they? Renewed interest in the franchise + peak exposure would be the perfect time to announce a new project. Considering the number of leaks from the past year, i'd be more surprised if they didnt announce anything HL related after a HL movie is released, just makes sense. Hell, the next Half-Life would revolve around Aperture shit anyway so i could see them doing something after a Portal movie release too. Valve is unorthodox in a lot of respects but that'd just be common sense.
what
Saying that knowing Valve they most likely skip out a golden time for this gmae
If the Half-Life movie has a voiced Freeman, I demand that he's voiced by Ross Scott.
