Mel is a cut character from Portal 2 actually, she was supposed to be the coop partner along with Chell.
So it's somewhat relevant, and she could be used as a protagonist for a movie.
If the Half-Life movie has a voiced Freeman, I demand that he's voiced by Ross Scott.
Just have ivan the space biker instead of gordon
Any movie with voiced Gordon will have to be Ross Scott, I just cannot imagine Gordon's voice as anything but that anymore.
A portal movie sounds bad though
I'd be okay if it was all about Cave Johnson.
Half Life 2 would work if they maybe look at it from a random citizen point of view who turns into a rebel or maybe focus on Breen and his inner circle?
I wouldn't mind a voiced Freeman, honestly. He doesn't speak in the game (which effectively makes it feel as if you are freeman) but we can't pretend he's actually a completely mute character.
If they did a movie on half Life or portal which focuses on the main character than its potential lost
Honestly if they do make a film and keep the protagonist silent the whole time I would love to see it. Part of the reason why I love Mad Max films is because he hardly speaks at all. Actions speak louder than words, which is the type of character that Gordon is.
Lauren Cohen would be my choice for Chell.

isnt chell asian
pretty sure the obvious choice for protagonist is Lazlo. He was the brightest mind of his generation.
I'm not sure if I'd want J.J. to write or direct a Half Life movie after seeing TFA.
Guillermo del Tormo might be a better fit based on the series being so tied to scifi and horror.
There needs to be at least one whole film focusing on the Black Mesa Incident.
Should the voice actors play the characters as well or just dub the lines?
I can't really see Portal working as a movie.
Why not?
I could see millions of possibilities within the large aperture science world that portal 2 defined. It doesn't have to be chell-centered.

Personally if they're basing the HL one around existing characters then a barney movie a la blue shift could be pretty cool

You missed a great opportunity, so I fixed it.
If the Half-Life movie is done during the 7 Hour War or from the perspective from a couple of rebels before/during the uprising (and hopefully goes all the way through White Forest) then I'm all up for it! Definitely can't mess with the main story and no fans would get pissed whatsover! They have Valve's own writers for this as well so it's a certain that they won't fiddle with Gordon Freeman main character thing and more around stuff happening from Gordon Freeman's actions.
Snip, already said

probably his kids do
that's why he made the Avatar movie because he and his kids liked it.

Alésia Glidewell could probably straight up reprise her role as chell. She's the face model, and she's done mocap and voice gigs.
This reminds me of the recent episode of South Park where they have J.J Abrams reboot the National Anthem.

Wow, I always thought she was from Latin America.
I just Googled it and it seems we are both right, at least according to the person who she was modeled by:
(Alésia Toyoko) Glidewell was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States on December 8, 1978 to a Brazilian-American father and a Japanese mother.
I'm not surprised, she does have the Brazilian lips and the hips to back it up.

Honestly? If it was done right I wouldn't even be upset. At this point I'm more invested in the universe than the gameplay.
I hope that JJ Abrams isn't directing it.
